And each model has its own functionality, right from the sleek hatchback Škoda Fabia, characterized by seamless power delivery, roominess of a luxury sedan and good fuel efficiency. The Active and Ambition variants running with 1.2 MPI-55kW petrol engines, deliver 16.4 Km per liter of petrol.

Worth the drool: The New 2013 Skoda Octavia

2013-Skoda-Octavia
Skoda, which has been here in India for just about a decade now, is now a strong force to reckon in the Indian car market. Always known to build sturdy entry-level luxury cars, Skoda India has already carved a name for itself. But Skoda, the sister concern of the big Volkswagen Group, has been losing out on the design front for it’s bland looks as the brand has always been pushed into sidelines to accommodate more VW cars which also incidentally falls in the same segment.

With the exception of the Skoda Superb and the Yeti, other Skoda cars in its portfolio always looked dull. However, the design issues plaguing Skoda will soon be the thing of the past if you have look into the new 2013 Skoda Octavia’s rendering. The rendering itself looks macho, out of the world, sporty and futuristic.

So what’s new with the 2013 Skoda Octavia you might ask. The new car is expected to be a bit longer by 60mm and wider by 40mm than the outgoing model. This again translates into more legroom in the car that is already spacious. The car will receive a 1.4L TSI and 1.6L TDI engine along with a Start-Stop technology. Tradition will continue with a RS model and a Wagon with 4WD. The car will come equipped with new parking assistant and adaptive cruise control.

Well, when the car makes inroads to India, it certainly will not bear the name of Octavia, but as the next generation Laura as the now defunct Octavia brand name will be very much kept alive and kicking but with another model to fill the void. We hope the 2013 Skoda car in the pic will certainly compete and take the new Civic head on.

Mitsubishi RVR May Head to India

Mitsubishi-RVR-Front
Mitsubishi in the news once again! We had the facelifted Outlander launch in India last month. To reflect the spirit of the Mitsubishi Outlander 2010, the launch ceremony was followed by the launch of Rohit Bal’s Outlander Signature Collection. A little after that launch, we heard of the launch of the Pajero Sport and Lancer Evolution. Last week, we presented in one of our blog posts the details and exclusive spy pictures of the Lancer Evo X. Mitsubishi still screams ‘want more attention’. The car maker hasn’t said anything yet. But, we know it.

We are almost certain that the Mitsubishi RVR is heading to India. Yes, the car that was launched at the Geneva Motor Show this year may come to India some time in latter half of next year. If the news turns out to be true, must say, Mitsubishi has taken the right move to fight the battle while so many small SUVs like the Yeti are getting in. This car is known as the ASX in the European market.

Everybody knows that car sales have been showing growth like never before. But, Mitsubishi’s sales figures for the recently launched Outlander haven’t been too positive. New model, and so, may take some time, or, it may be the high price. Who knows, the sales may have been higher had there been a diesel variant.

Just 40 Outlanders a month are rolling out of Mitsubishi dealerships in the country. The other reason for the slow sales could be the 5-seat layout. If that’s the reason, Mitsubishi is trying to rectify the problem by bringing a 7-seat version. Wow! The seven-seater will be pitted against the likes of the Chevy Captiva and Honda CR-V. Mitsubishi’s smaller car, the RVR can happily take over the space vacated by the 5-seat Outlander.

The RVR is based on the same platform and has the same wheelbase as the Outlander. Yes, the rear seat space remains the same. However, slotted below the Outlander, this lightweight vehicle measures approximately 4.3-meters in length. It is much shorter than the Honda CR-V and BMW X1. Compare it to the Yeti and you’ll know that this mini Outlander is a lot better. The RVR flaunts the same shark nose and wedge-shaped lights as the renowned Evo and Outlander GT. The RVR’s appearance is simply outstanding and commands more presence than the Yeti.

Mitsubishi is doing all it can to gain immunity in the competition. If the Skoda Yeti comes with a vigorous 140 bhp diesel motor, the Mitsubishi RVR will come with a hearty turbocharged 1.8L 147 bhp CRDi diesel engine. The RVR is expected to drive into the country in the front wheel drive variant. The model will also swank a 6-speed manual transmission with stop-start technology as standard. Considering the traffic in our cities, this fuel-saving feature will certainly allure the Indian crowd.

Coming to the cost, what do you it’s gonna be? Based on the same platform as the Outlander and having shared parts with the vehicle too, Mitsubishi may push costs down for the RVR. When imported as a completely knocked down unit (CKD) and then assembled in India, the RVR could result in a Rs 15 lakh price tag. That’s worth it, right?

Yetival – The Yeti Festival where Online Met Offline

Yeti at Tweet Up
New and pre-owned car sales and services, excellent ads to promote the new cars, massive discounts and much more has been done to draw the attention of the Indian car enthusiast.

What more can one do? How about a social meet? That’s exactly what SkodaAuto India did. A fully owned subsidiary of SkodaAuto a.s., Czech Republic (Volkswagen Group), SkodaAuto India hosted the first ever Skoda Tweet up session. That was something interesting as online bloggers, car fanatics, active tweeters and social networkers got together in an unusual online meets offline. In high spirits, everybody shared ideas about India’s most eagerly awaited SUV, the Skoda Yeti.

Yetival was bubbling with life. Yes, that was the name given to the first-of-its-kind tweet up session for automobile enthusiasts held at Arshia Motors, Connaught Circus in India’s capital. The session offered bloggers from different walks of life an excellent opportunity to meet each other offline. Skoda enthusiasts were even happier. They had more reason to smile as they surveyed SkodaAuto’s upcoming SUV Yeti.

Ms. Megha Verma, Head of New Media, SkodaAuto India said “I am thrilled by the overwhelming response to the first Yetival; it reflects the nation’s growing excitement for our upcoming SUV Skoda Yeti. It gives me immense pleasure to bring our online friends together at this offline meet for a sneak preview of the Yeti.”

Fellow Blogger Anamit Sen at Yetival

The firsthand touch and feel of the soon to be launched Skoda Yeti took the spirits of the car fanatics to a whole new level. Everybody’s favorite SUV, the Skoda Yeti was and was meant to be the topic of discussion. Earlier at the Auto Expo 2010 the Skoda Yeti had already spawned great amount of curiosity and the Yetival stood as proof for the SUV’s huge fan following across India.

Bharat Iyer, a passionate Skoda buff who is apparently an online blogger too said, “I am excited with this first ever online users meet organized by Skoda – it is a great platform to meet likeminded online bloggers and discuss our passion for cars. I just cannot wait for the Yeti to be launched in India. I fell in love with the Yeti on display. I was one of the first ones to catch the glimpse of Skoda Yeti at AutoExpo 2010 and this event helped to further understand the vehicle in-depth, it is the SUV I have been waiting for.”

Skoda Yeti displayed @ Tweet Up

If you missed the meet or if you do not stay in the capital city, worry not. The Skoda Yeti will be touring across India where Skoda enthusiasts can get a first hand touch and feel of their favourite SUV. Just be prepared. The SUV, which offers a unique combination of design, safety, functionality and comfort, has been extremely popular in the international car market, especially in Europe.

Having smarter-looks and being less bulky than the traditional SUVs, the Yeti combines smooth city driving with harsh off road capabilities. Its long suspension and high ground clearance makes it competent for rougher tracks. The Skoda Yeti, indeed, is one of the most eagerly awaited mid size SUVs to be launched in India later this year.
