IndiGo promotors to bring Koenigsegg Agera into India

koenigsegg-agera-xl-1
Gone are those days when we used drool looking at super cars and lament the non-availability of these cars here in India. However, everything is changing. Ever since Luxury car brands such as Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Maybach , Porsche and recently Bugatti set shop in India, most of the other global luxury brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati have already made elaborate plans to get a slice of the big unexploited ultra luxury car market which seems to a virgin territory at the moment.

Now, a new Luxury sports car maker also wants to make it big in India. And it’s none other than the Swedish super sports car maker Koenigsegg Automotive AB. Yes, you just read that right, Now that we have seen Bugatti coming up with their Rs 16 crore super car, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport , Koenigsegg does not want to left around. Koenigsegg has joined hands with Rahul Bhatia-promoted InterGlobe Enterprises to launch a range of high-end, high-performance models in India. Yes, these guys are the promoters of the low-cost carrier IndiGo under the InterGlobe Aviation banner.

Koenigsegg, known for its big engines, unfamiliar designs and styling under its own brand, will launch the Agera, which carries a sticker price of Rs 9.6-10 crore, next month in Hyderabad. How cool is that? The Agera which means “to act” in Swedish, sports a 4.7-litre aluminium V8 engine capable of producing peak power of 850 bhp, is one of the fastest production cars in the world. And now if you might be thinking what that much power transalates into, think of combined power of 18 Maruti Alto cars (800 cc). That’s the rough estimate of the power that the Agera produces.

2010-Koenigsegg-Agera-Rear-Angle-View-800x600

Speaking more about the numbers associated with the Koenigsegg Agera, the super car that has a top speed of 390 kmph plus can reach 100 kmph in 3.1 seconds. The car was unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show last year. The company plans to build just 16-29 units a year adding an exclusive image to the Agera.

As per the industry sources, the ultra luxury car segment is growing by a minimum of 25 per cent a year. Better economic growth, fuelled by substantial investments made by a number of multinational companies over the past few years, has contributed to a considerable rise in the sale of high-end cars in the country. Most luxury carmakers believe that India’s demand for exotic vehicles will be much higher than in traditional rivals such as China in the coming years. According to a senior executive at Rolls Royce, India could become its largest market in Asia if the growth momentum is maintained.

“Star of India” back in Rajkot after 42 years

Rolls-Royce-Phantom
For those who came in late. We had carried a blog on the vintage 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II 40/50 HP Continental “All-Weather Convertible” also famously called as the “Star of India”.

Now the Star is back and how? This luxury on wheels, a custom-built one in that belonged to the erstwhile Maharaja of Rajkot. Now after almost close to half a century after the car was sold to a British car collector, this legend of a car will be back in India for good.

Mandhatasinh Jadeja, former prince of Rajkot, recently bought the car at an online auction from Monte Carlo for 6.44 lakh euros (Rs 3.2 crore). His grandfather had sold it to a British collector in 1968. The Star of India had been part of German collector Hans-Gunther Zach exotic Rolls Royce and Bentley collection. In 1980, it was shown in Germany and the Roth-Haendle car show stated a British owner. The Star of India was auctioned alongside twenty-four other rare Rolls-Royce and three other Bentley automobiles in 2010. After the auction, it appeared for sale at $13 million, but the listing was later removed. So, now we know why the listing was removed back then.

The Phantom-II 40/50 HP Continental, an all-weather convertible, was part of the private collection of Rolls Royce collector Hans-Gunther Zach before Jadeja bought it back. He plans to gift the car to his father Manoharsinh Jadeja on his 75th birthday on November 29. Manoharsinh was a state minister in Chhabildas Mehta’s government between 1993 and 1995.

The former prince was very ecstatic when he was quoted that he could not think of a better birthday gift for his father. This classic car has always been a part of the family’s history. He said even Mahatma Gandhi and Queen Victoria had travelled in this car.

Mandhatasinh’s grand uncle Thakorsaheb Dharmendrasinhji had ordered the customised Rolls Royce in 1934. Mandhatasinh Jadeja said “We wanted to bring back this heritage irrespective of its costs. It may well be the first case in which an artifact sold by a royal family outside the country has been bought back by the same family. The Rolls Royce will be transported back to Rajkot within six months”.

The car is currently being displayed in Ontario, Canada at the exhibition named, Maharaja: The splendour of India’s royal courts”. The former price says when it returns, the car will be part of a new heritage museum that he is building. “The car has several features which were considered unique in the 1930s, including headlights controlled by steering wheel and ability to track the vehicle’s progress on road. A similar technology, now called adaptive curve lights, is the feature of the latest BMW and Mercedes models,” he said.

Allow us to brief about this Rolls Royce in question. The body of this Roller, as we have earlier mentioned was custom built by Thrupp & Maberly and is painted in saffron ochre finish and aluminium. This 7.7-liter pushrod straight-six is a seven-seater with the interiors also decked up in saffron, a colour regarded as auspicious in India and carries a whopping fourteen headlights, which gives the car a superior appearance. To top it all, this car has on it an inscription that reads “An impartial ruler of men of all faiths.”

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sports launched in India at Rs 16 cr

2010_bugatti_veyron_16_4_grand_sport
The world’s fastest and costliest legal production sports car has just made it to the Indian shores today. Yes folks, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is here and how. The super luxury sports car can be all yours if Rs 16 crore, the starting sticker price of the car, is small change for you.

With the launch of Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, the Indian automobile scene has just become the “It” market for those super luxury carmakers around the world jostling for their share in the Indian car market.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, a product of the larger Volkswagen Group company becomes the most expensive car to be sold in India. “Bugatti has been doing well in America, Europe and the Middle East. Now we see India as an emerging market for us, hence we have decided to bring the car to India,” said Guy Caquelin, Bugatti Automobiles Sales Market Manager (Middle East, Europe and India) in Delhi today during the launch. He said Bugatti is aiming between 60 and 80 units of the car to be sold across the globe this year and there have been queries from 3 to 4 Indians globally.

This beauty and beast, all rolled into one, will be distibuted by the company’s Indian dealer Exclusive Motors. With a price tag of Rs 16 crore onwards, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport has dwarfed other so called expensive luxury cars like that of Rolls Royce Phantom and Maybach, which are priced around Rs 5 crore. “The price of the car will be subject to foreign exchange fluctuation and the levels of customisation that a buyer demands,” Exclusive Motors Managing Director Satya Bagla said.

He, however, said that with the Indian luxury car market growing at about 25 per cent there is an opportunity for such expensive cars. “The Bugatti Veyron is four times more expensive than what’s being sold in the India. So we are currently testing the customer response,” Bagla said, when asked if there has been any order for the car.

You might have the money the buy the Bugatti, but do you have the time to wait for one till it is delivered? This is of great concern as the delivery would take about 6-8 months from the date of order.

The company claims that the Bugatti Veyron is also the fastest car on production that is allowed to drive on normal roads in the world with a top speed of 407 km/hour with an acceleration of 0-100km/hour in 2.7 seconds.

The car, which uses components made of special materials like titanium, carbon fibre and magnesium is powered by an 8 litre engine with 16 cylinders and is assembled by hand at the company’s hand headquarters Molsheim in France.

Bugatti Veyron to be Priced at Rs 12 Crore

bugatti-veyronThe world’s fastest and most expensive car will be entering India on the last Thursday of this month. Yes folks, on 28th October, 2010, we have the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport making a regal entry into India’s car market. Exclusive Motors, which is the sole distributor of Bentley and Lamborghini cars in India, enjoys the privilege yet another time of being the official dealer of the legendary French car brand in the country. The growing club of millionaires in the country is being targeted.

Luxury brands like Rolls Royce and Maybach have seen the number of millionaire buyers swell by more than 50 per cent in one year. Well, the common man cannot afford these cars anyway. How can we ordinary mortals, who find it difficult to purchase luxury cars, afford a Rs 12 Crore worth super luxury car? Yes, sources close to the development say that the magnificent supercar would be priced at Rs 12 Crore. And, did you know a couple of buyers in India have already fallen prey to the wonder car’s beauty and power?

“The car is slated for launch soon but we cannot disclose its price and other specifications. There are a few customers for Bugatti, but again their identities cannot be revealed now,” said Satya Bagla, managing director of Exclusive Motors.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 sure has no competition in India as of now. The car has even crossed the 430 kmph mark to become the world’s fastest production car. It can sprint from a standstill to 100 kmph in a matter of 3 seconds or even lesser. The question, however, remains if our pathetic road conditions permit the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 to perform anywhere near its ability.

While the West is still trying to get out of the shock of the global downturn luxury car makers seem to not be bothered too much, thanks to the surging number of rich individuals in booming economies like India and China. Adding to the luxury brands fame is the increasing number of young Indians who are dare to flaunt and join the rich club.

Deepesh Rathore, managing director at market research firm IHS Global Insight says that the high net-worth individuals in India are getting younger and they want to enjoy their money with the huge legacy associated with legendary brands. “Bugatti will surely catch up in the country, particularly among the well-travelled Indian millionaires,” added Mr Rathore. Rolls Royce cars which cost over Rs 3.5 Crore already have over 60 customers waiting for deliveries over the next few years, he said.

Both Rolls Royce and Maybach have outsold their allocations for the Indian market. In the current financial year, all-imported super luxury car sales are expected to double to more than 200 units. Just the regular luxury car sales of BMW, Audi and the Mercedes-Benz brands grew 31 per cent to 8,316 cars during the first six months of the fiscal year.

The Indian car market has been moving at a super fast pace at an impressive 30 per cent rate over the last few months. A study also reveals that India is getting set to drive past China to record the world’s fastest auto sales growth. Let’s see!

The Veyron 16.4 has been named after French racing driver Pierre Veyron. The classic exclusive 1,001-bhp Bugatti Veyron 16.4 had made its world debut in 2005. It offers a stunning set of specifications, such as the twin clutch gearbox with seven speeds, the extraordinarily precise driving performance in bends and excellent stability when braking and accelerating. Just over 220 Veyrons have been built and delivered till date.

BMW to Recall 348,000 Vehicles including Roll Royce

BMW-Logo-on-a-car
Wouldn’t Toyota be glad, now that the car recall spotlight is going to be on someone else! Yes, this time around it is BMW which is struck by the recall curse. BMW Group has announced that the company would recall 348,000 BMWs and 5,800 Rolls-Royces worldwide mainly because of brake problems.

Apparently, the cars might have a problem with the power-braking system, but are not unsafe and car owners are not required to have their vehicle checked.

“In the affected vehicles, a leak may develop in the power braking system, potentially causing a vacuum loss and consequent reduction of power braking assistance”. Don’t get so alarmed yet. This problem does not mean the brakes themselves will fail. There have been no reported incidents since the problem was detected.

The recall includes V8 and V12-powered BMW 5-series, 6-series and 7-series models – built between July 2001 and November 2009, along with 905 Rolls-Royces.

Rolls-Royce_Spirit_of_Ecstasy

Speaking during the ongoing Paris Motor Show, Rolls-Royce boss and executive of BMW Ian Robertson said that the company has responded quickly and working efficiently to resolve the situation as soon as possible. He also mentioned that his company took these matters very seriously, while hoping that potential buyers of vehicles from both companies would not be discouraged by the news as there still wasn’t a single accident or incident that had been reported among the 350,000 owners worldwide.

Mr. Robertson also drew attention to the fact that most of the manufacturers at the motor show had had to issue a recall at one point or another in the past. But the most important thing is that the German luxury car maker is dealing with it pretty well.

“I think most manufacturers that are here in Paris today have one time or another had a recall. It is how you deal with it that is important.”

Although, there have not been any reports of accidents, it is believed that a leak may develop in the power braking system of the affected cars, potentially causing a vacuum loss and consequent reduction of power braking assistance, accompany statement said. Yet, you have the mechanical braking to slow and stop the vehicle.

The news comes a day after the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it was investigating a potential power steering problem with the Mini – another brand owned by BMW.

Aston Martin Cars to Hit Indian Roads

2009-Aston-Martin-V8-Vantage
Well, one of the most famous movie heroes who gets to have it all is James Bond. Be it the latest gadgets, the best vacations, the most exotic women, and not to mention the slickest of speed machines, Bond lays his hands on them all. And when we are talking about Bond, a detailed mention of the very British Aston Martin becomes totally irresistible.

Aston Martin was one of the many cars that repeatedly made its appearance through many of the James Bond flicks. And now, the iconic car is all set to arrive in India this year. The Richie Richs of India, who have so far been treated with Lamborghinis and Rolls Royce, would definitely change their loyalties for the A. Martin priced at around Rs 3 crore.
2010-Aston-Martin-DB9-Coupe-2

The British car manufacturer is supposedly all geared up to launch its vehicles in India, and has tied up with Infinity Cars to open its first showroom in Mumbai. Sources close to the development have revealed that Aston Martin has already signed an agreement with the Mumbai-based Infinity Cars, which is also a dealer of luxurious BMW cars. Infinity Cars has been appointed as the company’s exclusive distributor for the Indian market.

Infinity will open the booking process for Aston Martin from next week. The cars are likely to be delivered in the next 5-6 months,” a source said. Initially, Aston Martin will launch four models, V8 Vantage, DB9, Rapide and DBS, in the Indian market, and even the ex-showroom prices have been finalised, the source added.

2010-Aston-Martin-Rapide

“While V8 and DB9 will come for Rs 1.35 crore and Rs 1.9 crore, Rapide and DBS will be offered for Rs 2.3 crore and Rs 2.8 crore. Above this, customers have to pay for the insurance and registration charges,” sources said.

Aston Martin was established in 1914 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. The sports car manufacturer was a part of the US car giant Ford from 1994 to 2007.

In 2007, a joint venture company, headed by David Richards and co-owned by Investment Dar and Adeem Investment of Kuwait and English businessman John Sinders, acquired Aston Martin from Ford for 479 million pounds.

An Aston Martin spokesperson, when asked about its India plans, said: “Aston Martin is currently in discussion with potential dealers in India.” Infinity Cars director Lalit Choudary said: “It is not the right time and pre-mature as we are still finalising the prices and what models to bring in… The picture will be clear in a month’s time”.

Most of the big players in the luxury sports car market, including Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, have all tasted success in the Indian market. So, it is quite sensible of Aston Martin to finally set foot in the Indian market.
