The 2012 new Ferrari 458 Spider Unveiled

458_Spider_1
The new 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider, the world’s first mid-rear engined berlinetta, equipped with a retractable hard top has debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari’s mid-rear engined V8s and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. It is equipped with a Ferrari patented, fully retractable hard top, a world first for a sports car with this lay-out.

The 458 Spider is powered by Ferrari’s naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 which was nominated as the 2011 International Engine of the Year for its engineering excellence in terms of driveability, performance, economy and refinement. The power is transferred to the road by Ferrari’s class-leading dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission through the sophisticated E-Diff, itself integrated with the F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS for maximum handling dynamics.

Certain of the car’s features, such as its accelerator pedal mapping and the damping of the multilink suspension, have been calibrated to guarantee maximum sportiness and absolute driving pleasure with the top down, in line with Maranello’s exclusive spider tradition. Even the engine soundtrack has been honed to ensure that the car’s occupants are completely captivated by the drop-top driving experience.

458_Spider_3

Entirely in aluminium, the hard-top solution adopted for the 458 Spider offers a number of advantages over the traditional folding soft-top, including a reduction of 25 kg in weight and a deployment time of just 14 seconds. Fully integrated into the styling of the car, the hard-top was engineered to fit neatly ahead of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or the performance of the car. The small space needed to house the roof enables the designers to include a generous rear bench for luggage behind the seats.

The rear of the car is characterised by innovative forms with the buttresses designed to optimise the flow of air to the engine intakes and the clutch and gearbox oil radiators.

For maximum comfort whilst driving top down the 458 Spider features a generouslysized adjustable electric wind stop. The design was perfected to slow and diffuse the air in the cockpit, enabling normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h.

New technical solutions adopted for the chassis guarantee identical levels of structural rigidity with the roof up or down. The result is a car that is truly exciting to drive, blending extreme performance with the responsiveness that has always characterised Ferrari’s open-top berlinettas.

Lamborghini SUV to share platform with next-gen Porsche Cayenne

lamborghini_lm002
It is a tale of two Italian Super-car makers. Ferrari, a celebrated supercar maker has not very long ago insisted that it will never ever build a four-door model making it evident that it can win its daily bread through the sales of its two-door supercars. While the other super car maker in question, Lamborghini, has recently come out in the open and said it was very close to launch a new “everyday” car.

Lamborghini, part of the bigger Volkswagen Group, has access to a bevy of platforms and engineering economies of scale such as Volkswagen, Bentley, Porsche and Audi helps make the possibility of such a model being produced all the more likely. If the new reports doing rounds in the blogosphere is to be believed, Lamborghini is all set to come out with a worthy successor to the LM002 SUV from the 1980s. Yep, the rumours that you had heard for a long time now, very much seems to be a reality in some time from now.

The new above mentioned Lamborghini SUV is said to be inspired from the new rear-wheel drive platform being developed by Porsche for its next-gen Panamera. The platform in question is rumored to underpin a four-door coupe for Bentley and a new Audi A9 flagship sedan and is being designed from the Volkswagen Group up to be flexible enough to accommodate both sedan and SUV body styles.

Now this said, Porsche will be using this platform for its next-gen Panamera and Cayenne, Audi, for its new A9 and a new Q7, while it is speculated that the Lamborghini would be using this platform for the production version of the Estoque concept car and the new SUV. It must be recalled that Volkswagen had last year announced that Porsche would now be responsible for the engineering of the Group’s new sports cars and luxury sedans.

lm5_center

Lamborghini, by offering a SUV in its portfolio would automatically edge out Ferrari, as Ferrari does not have any prior experience in SUV building whatsoever. Lamborghini on the other hand is all set to laugh its way to the bank when its SUV will be launched in markets such as Russia, China and India, where poor road conditions have hindered the potential buyers of the brand’s low-slung supercars.

Though, the report is as good as a rumour, expect the Lamborghini SUV to make way after a half a decade or more.

Slovenian Cos to build Shayton Equilibrium, a 400 km/h Supercar

shayton_whitehouse_render 01
Supercar, a word, which is exclusively reserved for brands such as Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Ferrari, Lamborghini or Pagani will soon be invaded by a lesser known car brand from Slovenia called Shayton.

Though the country that has a name which at first reads Slow… that is where it ends. Shayton, a new Slovenian super car brand plans to build a car to break the 400 km/h and “sweep the competition”. This is exactly what the press release of the company reads. A trivia fact that has to be associated with this company is that the company hasn’t built actually a car.

shayton_provoco_

Now for a little more info on the car the company is planning to build. The name Shayton means “falcon” in Sioux Indian, one of the most feared birds of prey that is also the company’s logo. Their sports coupe is called the Equilibrium and will have a price tag of over €1,000,000 ($1.39 million). The Slovenian Zonda-wannabe will be powered by a V12 engine capable of 1,084 horsepower and 930 Nm of torque (686 lb-ft) at 5,000 rpm.

Thanks to the extensive use of aluminium, carbon fiber and titanium, the car is said to have a dry weight of 1,200 kg (2,645 lbs) and a power-to-weight ratio of 1.42 kg/hp. In theory, Shayton reckons the Equilibrium should be able to reach a top speed of over 400 km/h (249 mph) and cover the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and to 200 km/h in only 8.5 seconds. Love the optimism of the company though.

shayton - rear

The aggressive lines of the Equilibrium are the work of local designer Andrej Stanta.

The company plans to build around 20 cars a year, but first of all it needs to raise money in order to make a prototype, since what you see here are renderings. This is the first phase of the project right now.

Ferrari appoints Shreyans Motors as Indian distributor

ferrari-logo
Well, its pretty official now. Ferrariis all set to roll in and it has zeroed in on Shreyans Motors, as the official distributors of Ferrari cars in India. Shreyans Motors, the distributors for Porsche in India have gained distributorship rights for India for Ferrari, ending months of speculation.

Though Shreyans was appointed as the official distributors for Ferrari cars way back in November 2010, they have started to take in bookings for the famed Italian stallion car brand for the past three months. It is said that Shreyans Motors will open its first Ferrari showroom in Delhi in the early days of April 2011 followed by a Mumbai showroom.

By then, another super and luxury car manufacturer, Aston Martin too would have completed the process of formally launching its brand in India with both its dealerships opening in New Delhi and Mumbai. Just recently, we had carried a blog on InterGlobe, owners of Indigo Airlines acquiring the rights to distribute the Swedish super car brand Koenigsegg in India.

Shreyans, who apart from Porsche also have a couple of other luxury and fashion brands as part of its portfolio is taking in orders for the 458 Italia, the 599 GTB as well as FF models. Since, as mentioned earlier in the blog, the Shreyans have already begun taking bookings for the car, expect these gleaming beauties to be delivered to its customers before the formal launch in April.

These Italian supercars sure would be pricey and as the rumours goes by, the 458 Italia should make the wallet lighter by Rs 2.8 – 3 crore, while the 599 could be sold for Rs 3.3-3.5 crore. India, at present has over 50 Ferrari cars, with a large number of them being the V8 powered last generation 430, a couple of 360s and a few 355s and 348s and so far only one 458 Italia. There are also a few 599s in the country, but no known existence of either the 456 or 612 Scaglietti tourers. While most of the Ferrari owners are spread across cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai, they all depend on specialists currently to maintain their cars.

With super car brands such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Koenigsegg gearing up for the Indian assault, the competition and the Indian car market grows hotter by the day.

IndiGo promotors to bring Koenigsegg Agera into India

koenigsegg-agera-xl-1
Gone are those days when we used drool looking at super cars and lament the non-availability of these cars here in India. However, everything is changing. Ever since Luxury car brands such as Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini, Maybach , Porsche and recently Bugatti set shop in India, most of the other global luxury brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati have already made elaborate plans to get a slice of the big unexploited ultra luxury car market which seems to a virgin territory at the moment.

Now, a new Luxury sports car maker also wants to make it big in India. And it’s none other than the Swedish super sports car maker Koenigsegg Automotive AB. Yes, you just read that right, Now that we have seen Bugatti coming up with their Rs 16 crore super car, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport , Koenigsegg does not want to left around. Koenigsegg has joined hands with Rahul Bhatia-promoted InterGlobe Enterprises to launch a range of high-end, high-performance models in India. Yes, these guys are the promoters of the low-cost carrier IndiGo under the InterGlobe Aviation banner.

Koenigsegg, known for its big engines, unfamiliar designs and styling under its own brand, will launch the Agera, which carries a sticker price of Rs 9.6-10 crore, next month in Hyderabad. How cool is that? The Agera which means “to act” in Swedish, sports a 4.7-litre aluminium V8 engine capable of producing peak power of 850 bhp, is one of the fastest production cars in the world. And now if you might be thinking what that much power transalates into, think of combined power of 18 Maruti Alto cars (800 cc). That’s the rough estimate of the power that the Agera produces.

2010-Koenigsegg-Agera-Rear-Angle-View-800x600

Speaking more about the numbers associated with the Koenigsegg Agera, the super car that has a top speed of 390 kmph plus can reach 100 kmph in 3.1 seconds. The car was unveiled for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show last year. The company plans to build just 16-29 units a year adding an exclusive image to the Agera.

As per the industry sources, the ultra luxury car segment is growing by a minimum of 25 per cent a year. Better economic growth, fuelled by substantial investments made by a number of multinational companies over the past few years, has contributed to a considerable rise in the sale of high-end cars in the country. Most luxury carmakers believe that India’s demand for exotic vehicles will be much higher than in traditional rivals such as China in the coming years. According to a senior executive at Rolls Royce, India could become its largest market in Asia if the growth momentum is maintained.

Maruti ranked seventh on nation’s most trusted 300 brands: Study

maruti_suzuki_logo
According to study conducted and published recently by Trust Research Advisory (TRA), a leading research organization dedicated to understanding and simplifying concepts related to Trust, Marutihas been ranked at seventh position out of the Nation’s most trusted 300 brands.

The automobile sector has made quite an impression on the nation as one of the most trusted sectors, according to a study released by The Trust Research Advisory (TRA). The report has ranked India’s first indigenous car brand Maruti, at seventh place, whilst leading two-wheeler brand Hero Honda came in at 13th place and international luxury brand BMW at 33rd place. Hyundai drove in at 43rd place, whilst TVS at 54th place. Toyota was ranked at 66th place, Ford at 74th place, Mercedes Benz at 81st position, Audi at 104th place and Suzuki at 118th place. Skoda was 126th on the list, whilst Tata was at 159th place. Ferrari was at 162nd position.

Maruti’s Composite Brand Trust scores stay very close to the average line with the third lowest variance across the 10 composite parameters showing a strong consistency. Whilst there are no major shifts seen in these composite scores, the little extra edge is given to Maruti’s Brand Trust by its outward appearance, representative of the brand’s attractive appearance, appropriate expression, conformation to high standards.

Whilst the brand maintains a good balance in composite scores, its zonal pulls and variations are quite high. Maruti’s East and North zone trust indices are substantially higher than the other two zones. The East zone pull leads the lowest brand trust zone, the west by three times and the next lowest zone, south by almost two times. Maruti’s highest score among primary attributes of Brand Trust is in the brand’s consistency over time, something that Indians will relate to closely.

The revelations were a result of a study, published by Trust Research Advisory (TRA), a leading research organization dedicated to understanding and simplifying concepts related to Trust. The study, compiled into a 116-page report titled “The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2011” was launched at a press meet, held recently, in New Delhi. The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2011 is the result of years of detailed research to understand trust which included several hundred hours of discussions with communication experts and behavioural scientists.

N. Chandramouli, CEO, Trust Research Advisory (TRA) said, “The parameters under which this comprehensive study was carried out by TRA, is the first of its kind in the country. I believe that this detailed study on Brand Trust, will benefit the automobile sector in the long run. I wish them all the best in all their future endeavors and hope they make their way higher in the coming years as one of India ‘most trusted brands’.”
