Set to recognize art that demonstrates vision, innovation and deep understanding of material and form in the contemporary Indian art, Škoda has been bringing vibrant trends in contemporary art to public notice. The effort is to build a platform for mid-career artists, and newer voices in the Indian art world.
In association with Seventy EMG Arts Initiative, Škoda has been promoting Indian contemporary art since 2009. The artists will have satisfaction of a true kind by coming through a touch-stone experience. Jurors with immaculate credentials, patron institutions with renown in the art-world, dedicated advisors, rather a connoisseur -group will be appreciating the creations before selecting the awardees.
In addition to the ‘The Škoda Prize Winner’ title, the winner receives a Rs.10 Lakh prize. The runners-up have something even more valuable to look forward to – participation in international residences hosted by Prohelvetia, the Swiss Arts Council. 20 top entries will be exhibited at the Škoda Prize Top 20 exhibition, during the India Art Fair, in New Delhi.
The Breakthrough Artist Award to enthuse younger artists beginning their careers has been added since 2011. Artists under 35, who have held debut solo art exhibition in India, will be the ones to win the award, which is supported by the prestigious publication – Art India. The Škoda Prize aims to foster critical dialogue, on Indian contemporary art, in association with the Art India.
Artists with solo exhibition between May 31, 2011 and April 30, 2012 In India, under the age of 45 can send in the applications on their own, along with permissions from the collectors or galleries.
