A recent piece of news reported that students at Delhi College of Engineering have made a car that can drive up to 170 km on just one litre of petrol. Sounds like a miracle because achieving that kind of fuel efficiency is still a distant dream for even the best car manufacturers. Perhaps this is why most of them have turned to hybrid cars. The ‘170 km’ car costs just Rs. 3.5 lakh to build and can seat only a single person at a time. Looks like universities and their students are managing to create what many qualified car engineers have been unable to achieve. Proper training and financial support will work wonders for this niche pool of talent.
