New 2011 Ford Mustang V6 has finally got the EPA certification for its unprecedented fuel efficiency and powerful performance. Yes, the all new Mustang will give you an efficiency of 31 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city.
The new Ford Mustang powered by a 3.7-liter V-6 engine achieves 305 bhp with available six-speed automatic transmission and it is the very first production car ever to achieve 300-plus horsepower while maintaining an efficiency quotient of 30-plus mpg. The standard six-speed manual transmission has got an EPA rating of 29 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city. Unbelievable, isn't it!
"The Mustang engineering team aimed high and, through hard work, achieved fuel economy numbers that elevate Mustang into a class by itself," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development.
"At no other time in Mustang's history – for that matter, in automotive history – have we been able to talk about 305 horsepower and 31 miles per gallon. The Mustang truly is a no-compromises sports car," he added.
Here is the second shocker, new Mustang already has more than 11,000 orders, half for the new V-6.
The high performance and economy in the new Ford Mustang is courtesy to the lightweight, all-aluminum 3.7-liter dual-overhead-cam (DOHC) V-6 engine that uses advanced engineering. Depending on the driver inputs, the twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) adjusts the valvetrain in microseconds and further enhances the efficiency.
The new record achieved by the Mustang brings another shift in the usual wisdom. The newly engineered six-speed automatic transmission has a well calibrated gear ratio and shift programs which maximize economy while still maintaining high-horsepower driving fun.
2011 Mustang has got an Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system. There have been a few changes in the aerodynamics segment which include a new front fascia, tire spats on the rear wheels, modified underbody shields, a taller air dam and an added rear decklid seal. The news is all around that car drive will soon become costlier by the end of this month. The joy of rising and driving your dream car will now pinch your pocket as well as your heart. The lifetime Motor Vehicle (MV) tax has increased by 2%. This means another addition in the car costs. Cars will really become costlier and make a hole in your pockets. If you really don’t want to repent afterwards, then go ahead and buy a car now. Two-wheelers owners can relax because they have been spared. The taxes are increased only for cars and other automotives. After a rise of 2%, the tax on cars pricing below 5 lakh have increased from 10 to 12%, for vehicles between the price tag of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh have increased from 11% to 13% and tax for those costing more than Rs 10 lakh is increased by 14% to 16%. Some of your favorite cars will really become costly. After the increase in road tax, the ex-showroom price of Maruti Alto will be around Rs 2, 83,699; Maruti Swift will be priced around Rs 4, 42,201; Maruti SX4 around Rs 6, 67,054; Hyundai Santro around Rs 3, 49, 658 and Honda City will be priced at Rs 11, 06,000. This move is expected to earn revenue of around Rs 100 crore per annum for the government, so a good profit for the government but what about the car buyers who will again move back from their car purchase. The government desires to use this earned revenue for developing the infrastructure and roadways of the country. The cause is wise but is it good to pass the burden on car buyers? Is General Motors creating its own segment of customers for its cars? It could be the fact, as the company now plans to launch a small car cheaper than its now popular car Spark. The existing small car already comes with a 1.0 liter engine and price tag of Rs 3.23 lakh. If the company plans to go for smaller engine displacement this would certainly land them in between Maruti-800 or with the 624 cc Tata Nano. It is likely that the car will set off new wave of revolution of small cars as Maruti-800 is aging fast. With the new launch, having a lower price band, there will be tough competition in the 600cc to 800 cc car segment. It will be interesting to see if the consumer will be able to lap it up. Maybe you can own one car for each year and enjoy them all. Labels: competitions, Maruti 800, new car launch, new cars, small cars, Spark

Since it has entered India in 2007, luxury car maker Volvo has been in news for few times. And every time Volvo has made sure that the focus is on its cars and features rather than anything itself. Jaguar and land Rover have created a sensation in India after Tata Motors acquired the iconic luxury cars recently. Hitherto, the cars were unknown to Indian masses till the takeover bid was announced. But Jaguar cars have been owned by British Royalty’s like Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles and is the ultimate society statement in UK. But little has been known that Jaguar have long been favourites of some of Gujarat’s erstwhile royal families. Maharaja Chaitanyadev Sinhji of Wadhwan owned Jaguar E-type which he raced across several car races in world. He now owns a XJS Jag. Another jumping cat symbol car was owned by Maharaja Jyotindrasinhji of Gondal. His favourite is a Jaguar car and he raced the XK 150 Jaguar in the 70’s. Maruti DZire is already desired by thousands of buyers in India. It was launched on March 26, and the company has reported that it has already sold over 5,000 units in this financial year. Maruti’s impressive sales record seems to be going over the graph. After the lone rider SX4 helped the company top the mid-size cars category, DZire seems to be helping sales phenomenally. The small car segment has also posted an impressive growth. With such a popular line up of cars, it is time that Maruti enhanced it with some global cars. We already know that A-star is coming in October. But a dash of luxury will spice up the Maruti portfolio very much. Labels: Car-Sales, Maruti Dzire, Maruti SX4, midsize cars, new cars, small cars

Has India become a decisive factor in Mitsubishi’s business strategy? It does looks like that if you see at the new products planned for India. The Japanese company is planning to introduce the i–MiEV, an electric car and the very stylish SUV Outlander next year in India. It seems that the company does not want to rest on its laurels gained in past. The company is already selling Lancer, Cedia, Monetro and Pajero. The company is now eyeing luxury SUV segment by launching Outlander and is also planning to introduce the first international brand electric car in India. The company has re-defined luxury cars in India. It can do the same in future. It is clearly targeting other Japanese car manufacturers Honda and Maruti-Suzuki who have already established themselves in India. Indian car industry has assumed great importance globally after the Tata Nano was unveiled at the 9 th Auto Expo and recently at the Geneva Motor Show. Many global car manufacturers, who have announced the launch of their cars in India in the near future, are not taking any chances and are already announcing the exact year of launch and if it will be sedan, hatchback or SUV. Volkswagen, BMW, Audi and Ford have already joined the bandwagon of Indian cars and are making waves. Volvo luxury cars in India are the latest entrants. Volvo is now in queue to capture the SUV segment in India and has announced that it will release its much awaited XC60 SUV next year. Mercedes-Benz wants to bring more of its diesel engine cars to India. Car manufacturers, who had nurtured the habit of making announcements of car launches without any commitments to implement them, are now realizing the potential of the Indian automobile industry and are working hard to materialize their promises. This summer you can witness some heat in the D+ mid-size car segment. Honda is going to launch the new Honda Accord car this summer. Accord is an impressive car with great driving dynamics and majestic interiors. Now, it’s going to become even better. The current Accord has some unique car features like dual-zone automatic climate control, plush leather seats, wood inserts on the steering wheel and doors, and an in-dash 6-disc CD changer system. The sophistication of the engine adds more punch to the performance. Don’t forget... It also has a powerful V6 engine variant. It would be great to see the current attractiveness retained in the new car. Labels: honda accord, mid size segment, new cars

Have you ever wondered why the Cadillac and Hummer models are experiencing such a delay to come to India?
I think it is because they are converting them from left-hand drives to right-hand drives. Among hundreds of countries in the world, there are only 52 right-hand drive countries and India is one among them. Amazing but true! If the country had been using left-hand drives, then these cars would have arrived in India a long time ago. I understand that these cars are very costly and converting them after sales is again a costly business. In addition, no one in India is equipped to make this change in mass scales. It is good news that the companies have decided to do it themselves. I can only hope that this is the only change that these cars see when sold here. Now-a-days, there’s a great demand for used cars in India. It’s difficult to figure out the exact reason for this. It’s most probably because cars have now become very affordable to most middle class families. Small cars like Maruti 800, Chevrolet Spark, and Santro Xing are available at very attractive prices. To be able to buy new cars and better cars, people are selling off their old cars without giving much thought to the actual re-sale value of the car. This has led to a rise in the used car business. It has turned out to be very lucrative business. Many car manufacturers are cashing in on this trend. Maruti came out with their TrueValue service some time back. Hyundai called their business “Hyundai Exchange”. Now, Toyota has started its own used car outlet in New Delhi. They are calling it “U Trust”. They are looking forwarding to helping people pick-up good used cars at minimal prices and are also providing financing options as a value-added service.
