New Porsche Cayenne Cars In India

Porsche is all set to foray the world of SUV with its Cayenne experiencing a runaway success in sales worldwide. Leader in sports car manufacturing, Porsche celebrated the success of its SUV by rolling out the 250,000th Cayenne from its Leipzig plant in Germany.

Swathed in white and powered by a 3.0 litre 6-cylinder, 240 bhp diesel engine, Porsche Cayenne was destined to an Austrian customer. Porsche decided to expand its product line by adding SUV in 2002. This decision shocked many critics but Porsche proved its success in the SUV segment too and 250,000 cars sold in 6 years is definitely a commendable achievement by the luxury car manufacturer Porsche.

Cayenne received an amazing response since its launch. This technologically advanced SUV made impressive sales of 150,000 cars globally from its first generation. Whereas the second generation Cayenne launched in 2007 made still remarkable sales with higher fuel efficiency, higher drive performance, and improved drive-handling.

The diesel engine is also the latest addition to its portfolio and the first diesel Cayenne was showcased at the recent Geneva auto show. Today we get to see seven models in the Cayenne series. These excellent performers with the Porsche gene rock the roads every way.

Brace yourselves! The Audi Q5 is planning to launch in the Indian car market by June 2009. The luxury car manufacturer has taken this strong decision of the new car launch despite the downturn in the market.

Though the Audi India stable is already enjoying the success of the Q7, the car manufacturer decided to offer a compact SUV to India for those so inclined. Audi Q5 was launched in Europe in 2008 with four versions but India will initially see only two variants. Similar to the Audi Q7, the Q5 will also offer both petrol (2L TFSI) and diesel (3L TDI) engines.

This luxury off-roader will be brought to India as a completely built unit. There is possibility of the Q5 being locally assembled in Audi’s Aurangabad plant, but the company first wants to ensure a good volume of sales or demand before taking up the task of local production.

Before the launch of the Audi Q5, Audi enthusiasts will get to see the all new upgraded version of the luxury sedan Audi A6.

Audi, German luxury car brand, plans to absorb import taxes on its newly launched A4 sedan to India instead of transferring the cost of import to the consumer. The only reason to absorb taxes is to maintain the announced price tag of the new Audi A4 before its launch.

Volkswagen Audi is planning to start local operation for A4 at its Aurangabad facility by the end of this year. Till then, Audi is not willing to have a price difference just because of the import duty levied on the A4 for the next few months. After local production starts, the company will save on import taxes to bring down the cost price of the car.

This will make the car affordable to most Indian buyers. The company announces Audi A4 to be the cheapest Audi car in the country, costing Rs. 29 Lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) for the diesel version. The expected sales target for A4 is about 300-400 units this calendar year.

Audi is also committed to locally manufacturing its other luxury cars like the A6, A8, TT Coupe and Q7 by the next fiscal year.

Though diesel cars arrived much later than petrol cars in India, they have always been more popular in the Indian market due to the high fuel economy they deliver. Very few car manufacturers in the country have shyed away from introducing diesel car variants or models. One of them is Honda.

Honda has clung on to petrol engines over the entire decade that they have been in the country. Recently, there have been rumours that Honda is planning to introduce a diesel variant of one of its existing models. It’s supposed by many that the model could very well be their popular SUV – the Honda CR-V.

With the hike in prices of petrol and diesel, leading car manufacturers are in the process of introducing more fuel economic variants (such as LPG and CNG) of their existing car models. Hyundai Motors has introduced a CNG variant of its popular midsize sedan ‘Accent’.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine of the Hyundai Accent is now available with a CNG kit in the new CNG variant. The driver can easily switch between petrol and CNG modes using the manual selector switch in the car. The CNG kit comes with a Lambda control system that ensures Euro III emissions on the car. The new variant is very promising and could give the Accent a boost in sales.

Hyundai has also been planning to launch LPG variants of almost all its car models with the Hyundai Santro Xing LPG being the most awaited of them all.

India has become a hot destination for several foreign car manufacturers. Luxury car manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi already have their presence in the country and manufacturers like General Motors, Ford, Toyota and Hyundai have been around for a long time.

A recent entrant into the Indian car market has been Nissan. It’s planning to shift its small car manufacturing facilities to cheaper places like India and Thailand. This will not only improve the price positioning of Nissan’s cars in existing markets but will also provide a foothold in the Indian market.

Nissan plans to bring its small car Micra to India and wants to develop two more cars based on the same platform. While these cars are being developed with richer markets such as Europe in mind, India will not lack behind in consumerism. The Micra is expected to cost somewhere in the range of Rs 3-4 Lakh.

We have all heard news of BMW considering an entry into the small car segment. The BMW Mini that will be introduced to India shortly will be launched only in two cities - Delhi and Mumbai. The Mini will be small only in terms of size and like all BMWs, it will carry a heavy price tag.

The car will not be assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant. Instead, it will be imported as fully-built units. Now that’s a little sad because if it was assembled locally then price would have reduced by 30 percent. It’s expected to cost around Rs. 15-16 Lakh.

The ultra-cheap car Tata Nano will be facing another rival very soon. Ajanta - the well know clock makers are planning to roll out an electric car that may cost just around Rs.85, 000. This is definitely far cheaper to the Nano.

This electric car will also be challenging the Maini REVA which is the only electric car in the Indian car market. The details of the new car from Ajanta are not yet revealed. We’ll have to wait a little to learn more.

Chevrolet Captiva the most appealing SUV will be soon seen in an automatic transmission version without compromising on performance and fuel economy. The rocking SUV has won millions of hearts and is doing well on Indian roads. Presently, its available only with a diesel engine.

Captiva carried pretty impressive sales by selling nearly 200 units last month which is second only to the Honda CR-V. Now with the automatic transmission option, it’ll definitely attract more buyers. Another plus point is that this model will be enhanced by a four wheel drive feature. The new features on the Captiva might add to the cost of the car but spending a little extra is worth it for such good features.

The ‘Magic India Discovery’ tour across the subcontinent with the specially-prepared Ferrari 612 Scagliettis was an event to remember. The ‘hot’ looking Ferrari cars will probably come to India by 2010. The company is preparing a sales and marketing network in the country with an eye towards a 2010 launch.

At present, we see hardly any Ferraris on Indian roads. Most of these are purchased from Ferrari's dealership in Singapore. Tata Motors is closely related with Ferrari's parent company Fiat and may come into play for Ferrari’s India launch.

Is General Motors creating its own segment of customers for its cars? It could be the fact, as the company now plans to launch a small car cheaper than its now popular car Spark. The existing small car already comes with a 1.0 liter engine and price tag of Rs 3.23 lakh. If the company plans to go for smaller engine displacement this would certainly land them in between Maruti-800 or with the 624 cc Tata Nano.

It is likely that the car will set off new wave of revolution of small cars as Maruti-800 is aging fast. With the new launch, having a lower price band, there will be tough competition in the 600cc to 800 cc car segment. It will be interesting to see if the consumer will be able to lap it up. Maybe you can own one car for each year and enjoy them all.

Fiat is re-launching Fiat 500 in India soon. It seems that Fiat is planning to give a tough competition to BMW’s Mini. When Fiat will launch its 500 it is expected to take on the costliest hatchback of India BMW Mini. Fiat priced at Rs 13 lakh onwards and BMW Mini priced at Rs 20 lakh. Both these cars carry the retro design, carrying with it the legacy of European history.

It will be interesting to see if these European cars carry their magic to India. These car manufacturers will most probably fight for a thin line of consumer segment, which have an option to buy luxury cars or SUV or 500 or Mini. Maybe the consumer will eventually decide on who is the boss of hatch back cars in India.

There was a time when introduction of a new model took years in India. Going down the memory lane, we could find that Ambassador actually rolled out only one model till late 90’s and Fiat had only two models for India for over twenty years. When Maruti came in the early 80’s it revolutionized car industry, but new models were not forthcoming. But now the time seems to be changing so fast that if you blink you could miss a model.

Going a step ahead and breaking all records, one of the most successful sedan manufacturers, Mitsubishi has now decided to launch one new model in India every six months. They are even planning to introduce the sophisticated SUV Outlander in few months, which will be manufactured in India. It seems launching of new small cars, luxury cars, SUVs and sedans within span of short period may soon become a trend among car soon become car manufacturers.

Audi has always been synonymous with luxury and comfort. It would never give any chance to its customers to blame it for quality as it keeps releasing new version of its luxury cars very frequently to attract more customers. Now, Audi is releasing the new A4 luxury sedan in July with certain modification and additional features. The A4 will be sold at the price of locally assembled car in India.

Though the new A4 will be imported initially, it will sport the price tag of a locally assembled car. The new version of A4 was already launched in Europe a few months ago and became a grand success there. Audi India will assemble the A4 at its plant at Shndra and expects to sell 500 units of the new A4 in the first year.

Indian auto industry is undoubtedly becoming a hottest hub for global players. Launching of new luxury cars, SUVs and sedans have become common these days in India by foreign car manufacturers like BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz in collaboration with Indian car manufacturers. Now, Toyota has joined this bandwagon by announcing the launch of Lexus cars in India.

Lexus brands have already captured the luxury car market globally and became hit all over the world including USA. Lexus is highest selling global marquee and will reach the Indian market through Toyota. Lexus cars are crafted with elegant design, powerful engines and superb interiors to woo people to buy these brands in India.

Toyota does not want to release any of the Lexus brands in hurry but will take at least a year to launch them. It will launch LS 450 sedan first and later on LX 470 SUV. Surely, slow and steady wins the game!

Swift sedan Dzire is making a sudden appearance on Wednesday and not on Saturday as aired before. It it will be launched on Wednesday. It could give Maruti Suzuki two days of publicity and long queues of buyers booking it over the weekend.

Whatever, it is a clever strategy by MSIL to make quick sales and ensure long demand over several months. Its only sedan in market now SX4 which is already on top of the charts and Dzire seem to repeat history. Many believe that though the car similar to Swift in appearance has several firsts in its features.

If you are looking forward to buying the new Honda Accord for Ugadi or Gudi Padva in March, its time to change your plan. You don’t have to entirely give up on the car though. You are just going to have to postpone your plans of buying it.

Honda has put a stop to the production of the new eight generation Honda Accord. The car will be available only in May. The new date is also not fixed. Honda is re-designing the car and making it longer by 2.5 to 3 inches. A new car model could be stuck in the car design phase for a long time and nothing is certain until it’s over with. So, the launch date can’t be fixed with certainty yet. But one thing is for sure - The new Accord is going to be a real treat to the eyes and well worth the wait!

The recent success of the Chevrolet Spark seems to have rekindled the spirit of General Motors in India. The company is coming up with a new small car exclusively for India. But not immediately. It’s going to take some time – 2 years. They already have a decent line up of small cars like the Aveo U-VA, the SRV, and the one we just mentioned - the Spark. The car they are planning will be a refreshing new addition to this already crowded small car portfolio.

Everyone knows that luxury cars, apart from being luxurious, come with large and powerful engines that give low mileage. Luxury car manufacturers take pride in their powerful gas guzzlers and talk loudly about their cars’ power and performance. Mercedes-Benz wants to shift from that notion.
