Tata Motors has been contemplating to relook at the price tag of its newly acquired Jaguar Land Rover cars. This perception came to the Indian car behemoth as a result of fall in luxury car sales due to the ongoing global slump. The most important thing in these rainy days is to sustain manufacturing of these luxury cars. So, Tata Motors have decided that upcoming models from Jaguar Land Rover will cost less. The future cars from Jaguar Land Rover will come in light-weight aluminum bodies to reduce weight and cut CO2 emissions. Moreover, a hybrid powertrain is also in the pipeline that will be introduced in future models of Jaguar and Land Rover. Many new models are under development and will be rolled out in near future to revive the sale of luxury cars. All the new features will be developed in India to reduce the cost of these high-end cars. Tata Motors believe that a slash in price is likely to boost the sale of luxury cars in the global market. Except for India and China, the luxury car markets in the US, Europe and Japan have witnessed a decline by 16%. In India Jaguar Land Rover cars are showing a steady sale of one car per day since the day these cars have been launched. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is a British automotive business owned by Tata Motors of India. It was structured as a single unit to manage the businesses of both Jaguar Cars and Land Rover, which were acquired by Tata Motors from the Ford Motor Company in 2008. ‘Nano’s diamond miniature’ sounds exciting. We all have heard about the gold plated Porsche and the diamond studded Mercedes-Benz but talking about a diamond studded Nano is strange. Porsche and Mercedes-Benz are high-end premium luxury cars and people will definitely be attracted towards the outstanding aesthetic appeal of these cars wrapped with gold and diamonds. But, it’s difficult to imagine a 1 Lakh car covered with diamonds. Who’s actually going to invest such a huge amount on the world’s cheapest car? Though the commercial launch of Nano would be a remarkable event in the history of car industry but then too adorning it with costly stones is just not digestible. Yes it’s true that Nano was found covered with diamonds but only a miniature version and not the actual car. Amazingly, a renowned jeweler created a diamond studded miniature of the world’s cheapest car. The glittering miniature of the Nano was unveiled at a popular jewellery show, IIJS (India International Jewellery Show) 2008, in Mumbai. You would be surprise to know that about 15,568 diamond pieces worth 243,870 carat is used to embellish the tiny Nano model. With so much of embellishment, glitter, and artistry, the diamond studded Nano won bunch of appreciations and applauds from jewellery lovers across the country. The shimmering Nano even won the best design award at the show. As we all are waiting for the launch of Tata Nano with bated breath, we wish that the car actually rolls out with a similar excitement, thrill, and appreciation. Obviously, not covered with diamonds but definitely with a blend of power, performance, promised fuel-efficiency, and price tag. Labels: luxury cars, Porsche-Cars, tata nano

Audi, German luxury car brand, plans to absorb import taxes on its newly launched A4 sedan to India instead of transferring the cost of import to the consumer. The only reason to absorb taxes is to maintain the announced price tag of the new Audi A4 before its launch. Volkswagen Audi is planning to start local operation for A4 at its Aurangabad facility by the end of this year. Till then, Audi is not willing to have a price difference just because of the import duty levied on the A4 for the next few months. After local production starts, the company will save on import taxes to bring down the cost price of the car. This will make the car affordable to most Indian buyers. The company announces Audi A4 to be the cheapest Audi car in the country, costing Rs. 29 Lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) for the diesel version. The expected sales target for A4 is about 300-400 units this calendar year. Audi is also committed to locally manufacturing its other luxury cars like the A6, A8, TT Coupe and Q7 by the next fiscal year. Labels: Audi, luxury cars, new car launch

With the growing demand of green cars, most car manufacturers are trying to trim their engine displacement and bringing in eco-friendly variants. Luxury car manufacturer rarely go for technology change. They assume that changing from petrol to fuel efficient technology will result in loss of power. They are afraid of loosing the tag of powerful engine car.
But that myth seems to have been broken by luxury car maker leader Mercedes. Mercedes-Benz has come up with two new CNG sedans in India. The variant will more fuel efficient than the Maruti Suzuki 800 which runs on petrol.
All luxury car manufacturers should go for this as more car buyers are opting for fuel efficient cars. The alternative fuel will change the image of Luxury cars for forever. Labels: CNG cars, eco-friendly cars, luxury cars, Maruti Suzuki, Mercedes-Benz

When younger generation is going crazy for cars across the world, younger Canadians have taken the world by storm discarding cars in their daily routine life. Today, it’s habit among many youngsters to take their small car, luxury car or SUVs for marketing, offices and even to the places which are too nearby. In contrast to this, younger Canadians are going green by avoiding cars for little distance places. About 60 per cent of youngsters in Canada who own cars will walk, cycling or take public transport to reach their offices, markets or other little distance places. They are joining hands with Canadian government in its endeavor to protect environment from increasing pollution by sacrificing their personal comfort. Even most of the cars owned by them are environmentally- friendly cars. Younger generations who have a passion for cars should emulate Canadian youths in protecting and preserving environment from vehicles pollution. Indian auto industry has been growing faster than ever before. It’s booming with many global car manufacturers making their foray into Indian auto market. Global car players from US, Germany, Japan and other countries already have their cars ranging from small cars, super luxury car to midsize cars on the Indian roads. Many upcoming cars have also lined up to hit the Indian market. Now, Russian automobile company is eyeing Indian auto industry to launch its new cars. The first Russian automobile company to foray into the Indian market is likely to be GAZ (Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod) Group. The success of cars launched by all global players in India is driving force behind Russia to think over entering Indian auto market. Since it has entered India in 2007, luxury car maker Volvo has been in news for few times. And every time Volvo has made sure that the focus is on its cars and features rather than anything itself. In India, Volvo has been a late entry but it already has an impressive line with three luxury cars - convertible C70, sedan S80 and luxury SUV XC90. The company has a target of 500 cars for Indian market. Volvo also came into news for announcing the date of launch and showing commitment to stick to it. Now-a-days, car manufacturers are not only giving thrust to push up sale of their small cars or luxury cars, but also taking much care of their customers even after sale. Realising the fact that maintaining a good rapport with customers is as important as striking a deal with them to push their sales, some car companies have started after sale servicing to keep their customers happy and to help them to get solved any problems in their new cars after buying from them without shelling out an additional amount from their wallets. Maruti, Tata Motors and other companies started free car servicing after sale, now Hyundai has taken up this task and wanted to build a good rapport with its customers by launching after sale servicing campaign. It has launched a unique campaign of free car care clinic. The nationwide two-week long campaign will be held from April 2 to April 14. The company plans to reach 1.5 lakh consumers. Such customer-service oriented campaigns would definitely be praised by the customers. Labels: Auto market competition, car services, Hyundai, luxury cars, Maruti, small cars, Tata Motor

With the new Insurance premiums rate, it’s good news for both mass of people who use cars occasionally and those who use more than one car. The Insurance Company has planed to introduce pay-per use model of coverage for cars which is already in use in Europe. The new concept works with the help of GPRS system which tracks the car and the rates are charged accordingly. The users will have to pay much lesser charges compare to what they pay presently. The charge will depend on the number of usage, thus reduce the burden on users. In India, this will be helpful for cities like Mumbai and Bangalore where people don’t use cars including small cars, SUVs, sedans and luxury cars much due to traffic problem. Hope it would suit a lot of small users and reduce premiums. Labels: auto insurance, cars-India, luxury cars, new concept premium rate, Sedans, small cars, SUVs
If the new government norm on fuel efficiency is introduced, 60% of the Indian cars including small cars, SUVs, and luxury cars being sold in showrooms will never see Indian roads. As per new standards, most of these cars consume a lot of fuel and are pretty low on mileage. It’s high time that these fancy sets of wheels got fancy numbers for fuel economy. Only 40% of the car models today qualify. None of the SUVs meet the new fuel efficiency norms and aren’t suitable to off-roading anywhere in India. If enforced, the new norm will bring the current car bonanza to an abrupt end. To discourage low fuel efficiency cars, the US government has levied a gas guzzler tax on such models. Though not exactly same, this is something on similar lines from the Indian government. We don’t know when the new norm will be enforced but this news should get all car manufacturers working feverishly on newer engines and technologies. Is any one know that how much Ford spent initially to buy luxury car brands-Jaguar and Land Rover? Ford bought these two high end brands in 1989 at a whooping $10 billion. Ford has invested such a big amount in Jaguar and Land Rover but failed to reap profits. Ford suffered a huge loss by selling its luxury brands to Tata for merely $2.3 billion. As far as global players are concerned, they are firmly committed to make their vehicle more appealing and luxurious than their rivals. It is still not known as to why Ford failed to make these brands profitable. Big wigs of world’s auto industry are now thinking of revamping their brands to avoid selling of their brands to any other company after Ford’s failure in Jaguar brands. India’s dream of becoming a global small car hub may not become reality. Car manufacturers, who are till recently beaming over the reduction of excise duty on small cars, are now considering limiting their exports to maintain profitability as the government has not given incentive to encourage the exporting of passenger cars. Lack of incentive from the government is expected to affect the growth of export business of many car manufacturers. Sale of small cars, sedan and luxury cars is increasing in domestic market but lack of incentive for export and continues depreciation of the dollar, is bound to affect the sale of many cars in overseas market. Discouraged by the government’s disinterest in encouraging export business, largest exporter of passenger cars from India like Hyundai motor, Maruti Suzuki are seriously considering to downscale their original target of exporting 50 productions from India. Government should join hands with car companies to make India a global hub for small cars by giving some impetus to small cars export business. There was a time when introduction of a new model took years in India. Going down the memory lane, we could find that Ambassador actually rolled out only one model till late 90’s and Fiat had only two models for India for over twenty years. When Maruti came in the early 80’s it revolutionized car industry, but new models were not forthcoming. But now the time seems to be changing so fast that if you blink you could miss a model. Going a step ahead and breaking all records, one of the most successful sedan manufacturers, Mitsubishi has now decided to launch one new model in India every six months. They are even planning to introduce the sophisticated SUV Outlander in few months, which will be manufactured in India. It seems launching of new small cars, luxury cars, SUVs and sedans within span of short period may soon become a trend among car soon become car manufacturers. It seems that B and C cities are emerging as profitable markets for car companies in the last year. The rising income and easy accessibility to loans have been largely responsible for driving car sales upwards in these cities. As metros have been are soon going to become a stagnant market, it makes sense that car manufacturers look for cities other than metros. Most of these car buyers in these cities are first time car owners and obviously go for entry level cars. It is believed that Hyundai accounts 40 per cent of its sales including small cars and luxury cars are in cities other than the metros and six big cities in India. And the most popular models have been Santro and i10. Labels: Car-competition, Car-Sales, Expansion in business, Hyundai, luxury cars, New i10 model, small cars

Indian auto industry is undoubtedly becoming a hottest hub for global players. Launching of new luxury cars, SUVs and sedans have become common these days in India by foreign car manufacturers like BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz in collaboration with Indian car manufacturers. Now, Toyota has joined this bandwagon by announcing the launch of Lexus cars in India. Lexus brands have already captured the luxury car market globally and became hit all over the world including USA. Lexus is highest selling global marquee and will reach the Indian market through Toyota. Lexus cars are crafted with elegant design, powerful engines and superb interiors to woo people to buy these brands in India. Toyota does not want to release any of the Lexus brands in hurry but will take at least a year to launch them. It will launch LS 450 sedan first and later on LX 470 SUV. Small cars are evolving even as luxury cars are imbibing the culture of the west. A centre instrument cluster is not seen only in car like Mercedes. The owner of Chevrolet Spark will feel he/she is seated in a luxury car as well. Spark has its speedometer and other gauges housed on the centre of the dash rather than behind the steering wheels as is seen in all other small cars in India. It is surprising that General Motors has sought to bring in this feature for small cars. They have sought to deviate from the regular looking dashboards in small cars and given it a feel of a luxury car.Spark has really brought in some new aspects to designing small cars. Everyone is aware of the fact that the Tata Nano has re-defined the term 'small car' after its appearance at the last auto expo. So much so that even global car manufacturers like BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz have shown interest in this car segment. BMW will launch their popular small car brand MINI in India soon. This luxury small car is a stark contrast to the Tata Nano. Once it arrives, the BMW Mini will most probably be the most luxurious and costliest small car in India. Compare that to Tata's world's cheapest car and you get to see the contrast. Overwhelming response to its luxury cars such as X3, X5, 3 series, and 5 series in India might have stimulated BMW to consider launching luxury small car. The MINI will be priced at around Rs. 20 lakh. Going by its price, BMW's small car doesn't register in Tata Motors' book of competitors for the Nano. Indian car enthusiasts have always been passionate about luxury cars. They have an undying spirit and love for owning such cars. This obsession with luxury cars may be one of the strongest reasons for the success of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and the likes. Within a span of a few years, the Indian car industry has started to become swarmed with famous global car brands from renowned car manufacturers who have globally proved their mettle. These car companies have received a great response to their luxury cars. Most of their sedans, small cars and SUVs have become a grand success inspite of being highly priced. This trend is clearly seen in the successful sales numbers that each of the luxury car makers have achieved over the past few years. Last month saw 241 BMWs sold. BMW is so confident of the market that they have set themselves a sales target of 10,000 cars by 2010. Audi and Mercedes-Benz have similar success stories to tell. With global car manufacturers moving to India, luxury car makers like BMW, Nissan, Toyota, and Honda are now seeking the government’s assistance to test their cars in India. The manufacturers want to test their cars for durability and performance in Asian markets. India is one of the most diverse environments in the world ranging from very hot to very cold, which makes it a suitable base for not only manufacturing cars and other vehicles, but also for vehicle testing, which was earlier confined to the European Alps and American deserts. These changes will not only bring in further employment opportunities, but also help manufacturers customize luxury cars to suit Indian roads and Indian drivers instead of just importing tweaked and often completely revamped cars. Get into any modern luxury car and the first thing that catches the eye is the array of buttons on the dash. Even the steering wheel gets paddle shifters and audio controls. Added to this, there are cars with a GPS facility and an LCD screen. Get into any Merc or BMW and be amazed by the number of functions being packed into the small space. It will require the genius of a race car driver or a professional mechanic to actually understand the functions of all the buttons. A person will need to study the car manual for over a week to understand the various technological marvels that a luxury car comes with. Only the cockpit alone of a luxury car like the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes S-Class could cost up to $20,000 to $30,000 (Rs. 8 to 12 Lakh). The question, however, is why so many gadgets when most of these luxury cars are driven by chauffeurs? Wouldn’t it be better to concentrate more on the rear seat comforts of a luxury car? Maybe luxury car makers should concentrate more on rear comfort and less on cockpit confusion! Labels: Audi, BMW-Cars, Car-Accessories, GPS, LCD screen, luxury cars

It seems that tranquility is coming back in terror stricken Jammu and Kashmir. A Chandigarh-based dealer has reported that at least 8 Mercedes cars were sold last year to J&K residents. It is very rare for car manufacturers to reveal the status of sales in J&K. This means that tourists are making a come back to the state and his will push sales of luxury vehicles. J&K could become the biggest market for luxury cars in India if tourism is revived in the state. This could put the terror stricken population back on track for business and developments. Can you believe that one of the Rolls Royce, the most luxurious car among the super-expensive cars, sold 11 cars in India in 2007? I stumbled on this piece of info while looking out for any Classic Cars drive through happening in Delhi. Out of these eleven, ten were RR Phantom with different widths and one was a RR Phantom Drophead Coupe – the one officially coming to India soon. The price? Upwards of Rs. 3 Crores. That’s a lot of money huh? These stats got me to thinking that money is no more a big deal (except for people like me) for more number of people now than the number of people 10 years back. I mean, if I had 3 Crores, I wouldn’t spend it on a car – no matter how cool it is, I would rather spend it on buying a big house and other luxury items! But apparently, all that matters to some people is their social status and even though I might sound cynical of these people, I sure do wish I was one of them! ‘Agility at your Command’ that’s the new tag line for Mercedes-Benz that launched and updated its ‘C’ segment cars in India. Mercedes has been around with its operations for almost 11 years now in India. C-Class is the most popular model and a worldwide leader in its segment. Mercedes-Benz has always had a special place in the luxury car segment with its widest choice of product. The NEW “C-Class” is more power-packed, spacious, and stylish too. It is longer than its predecessor and the body as well as the wheel base is wider. The interiors are already posh and elegant but with the little changes made it gives total comfort. Benz always retains its elegance and beauty no matter what the changes, but it is definitely a plus to see that this beauty doesn’t take its success for granted. After the recent auto expo, I have noticed that there has been slightly less emphasis on the Mercedes and BMW makers in the media. Many of the car enthusiasts would have liked to know more about these luxury cars, as they have something new to offer every time. However, the media space was completely taken by the small cars. The news channels and information portals covered very little about these luxury brands.
I, for once, would have enjoyed seeing a proper assessment of these cars by Indian anchors. I wonder if Indian car analysts just take these makers quality for granted as good and so don’t say much, or that they do not have the daring to question the quality of such highly-acknowledged brands? One more attraction for youngsters at the 9th Auto Expo. Volvo has launched the convertible C70. There aren’t a lot of convertibles on our roads yet and we don’t see people feeling the air rush through their hair while they drive. No wonder then why Volvo has brought the convertible along. The C70 comes after Volvo’s recent launch of its luxury sedan S80 and the SUV XC90. The convertible will hit Indian roads soon. The most interesting feature of the C70 is its three piece retractable hardtop that can transform the vehicle from a convertible to a coupe within seconds of pressing a button. The company has so far not specified an exact date for the launch, but expressed its desire to enter the model into the Indian market. Volvo is making their models available as CBUs (Completely Built Units) which attracts a high percentage of import duty. The models are completely built outside India and then imported. Most likely the C70 too will be a CBU and its price would start somewhere around Rs 40 lakh. A late entrant to the India bandwagon of cars, Volvo has managed to sell 500 units across the country so far. The C70 is the most attractive model from them yet. How would you like if someone gifts you a car? WOW! And what would be your reaction when you realized it was a luxury car? Hmm… No words right? Now hold your breath for those real ones. As a token of appreciation our legendry Amithab Bachchan was gifted with Rs. 3.5 crore Rolls Royce Phantom for his outstanding performance in the movie ‘Eklavya’ by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Big B has gifted a Bentley car, imported from London to his son Abhishek Bachachan on his 31st birthday. That’s not all; there is another piece of information attached to it. Reliable sources reported that the hefty custom duty some was paid by their close family friend and a politician Amar Singh. Now is this a gift from his dad or Amar Singh is still under cover. It is becoming a trend among the celebrities to gift a car for any occasion. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan loves gifting too. Three years ago, for his film ‘Main Hoon Na’, he had gifted Hyundai Terracan to Farah Khan and recently happy with her direction for ‘Om Shanti Om’, he gifted a Mercedes Benz of worth Rs.40 Lakh. If the trend of gifting cars goes on, then our automobiles sector will definitely be on the top position in terms of sales. Good going… Labels: Gifts, luxury cars, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce-Cars

Now you can drive your dream car. Clueless? We are talking about Rolls Royce. The legendary carmaker has recently unveiled its latest creation, the Phantom Drop head Convertible in Mumbai. Rolls-Royce entered the Indian market with its super luxury Phantom. Like all Rolls Royce, the Phantom Drophead too carries a royal appeal. The fact that its design is inspired by J-Class racing yachts of the 1930s is evident from its long bonnet, large rear teak deck and white yacht-type rear curved seats. Its short stature ensures improved handling and a spirited drive. Positive worldwide response catapulted the 100EX concept car into a full-fledged luxury coupe. It has already received overwhelming response from a new and diverse clientele with more than half of the orders coming from customers who’ve never owned a Rolls-Royce. The company has already sold 100 units of the car worldwide and is very hopeful of the car doing well in the Indian market. It has sold 15 sedans in India this year. It’s planning to open its second Indian dealership in New Delhi. The first was opened in Mumbai in 2005. This is one car you need not brag about. Other luxury brands, such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi have already made it big in the Indian luxury car segment. There is no reason for GM to lag behind them. BMW, German’s most favorite carmaker, has declared that its M-series sports car and luxury sedan 5-series will start being manufactured in India by 2008. This decision was taken seeing the response of the Indian public to the other models by the same manufacturer. The 3 series and 7 series cars were received well in India and are said to have sold over 400 units and the sales are expected to grow further in a few months time. With increasing models and sales, BMW is planning to increase the dealership across the country. More luxury car manufactures aiming at India means more choices of luxury cars on Indian roads.
