The used car market is on speedy ride enjoying good sales volume. Many big car companies are trying their fortune in the sector and now Mercedes-Benz has shown its interest in the pre-owned car market. The company wants an organised strategy to sell the pre-owned Mercs in the country. The used car programme of the company is already active globally and very soon Merc lovers will experience its presence in the segment in India too by this year’s end. Mercedes-Benz has plans to invest around Rs 150 Crore to develop proper infrastructure in the country. Despite the worsening economic condition, Mercedes-Benz did not saw much decline in sales though it experienced financial problem to some extent. The global recession has proved lucky for the used car market as their sales graph grew higher compared to the new car market. Car manufacturers which already have their network in the segment are satisfied with consumers’ response. Hope Mercedes-Benz too enjoys a successful ride in the segment and continues to attract buyers with its used cars as well. Labels: Mercedes-Benz-Cars, New-Car-Launch, Used-Cars

Though the global recession has affected the new luxury car sales, the pre-owned luxury cars are still rejoicing their sales. The used car market is experiencing high scale growth grabbing buyers of small cars as well as mid-sized premium sedans. Seeing the great potential of luxury cars in the used car market, car brands like Merc, BMW, and Porsche are planning to try their hands in the used car segment. Porsche plans sales target of 200 new cars this year but for the used car it is likely to plan a higher target. Likewise, BMW who carries a high brand vale in India is also looking forward for a good sales number from the used car market. However, German Mercedes-Benz is planning to foray the used car market by 2010. New cars must be envying the pre-owned cars as they are really making impressive sales. It seems the competition is growing aggressively robust in the used car market compared to the new car market. Labels: Luxury-Cars, New-Cars, Used-Cars

The used car dealers are getting nightmares with the approaching Nano commercial launch. Used car dealers being afraid of the market after the Nano launch have drastically reduced the rates of the pre-owned cars. Most of them are trying to reach the margin of Rs 1 Lakh to compete with the Nano. Shockingly, prices of many mid-size cars have been slashed by over 25% and small cars by 2%. Four-to-five-year-old Ford Ikon, Maruti Esteem, Opel Corsa and Fiat Sienna are now available with a price tag of around Rs 1 Lakh. Well the used car dealers have taken a right and smart step by lowering the prices. As it is quite obvious that when an AC mid-sized car with all necessary features is available at the same price of Nano, no customer will opt to buy a Nano base variant without AC. It is also known that the prices of the A and B segment (small) cars will see a further revision after the launch of the Nano. So, Nano is not only a threat to the new existing small cars but also to the used cars. Labels: Nano, Small-Cars, Used-Cars

Rightly said “Every cloud has a silver lining” and we can now evidence this idiom. Take the instance of aftermaths of recession on the car industry. Surprisingly, when the credit crunch has highly impacted on the price of new cars, the price of used cars went down by whopping 30%. It’s more shocking to know that for the first time over 1000 cars are lined up in the Bangalore’s market in a span of only four months. This situation is created mainly due to the increasing job layoffs in the IT industry. IT professionals holding pink slips are no more capable of affording expensive four wheelers and are damping their cars into the used market. Even multinational companies and real estate developers are disposing luxury cars from their fleet. This scenario has flooded the pre-owned car market with huge population of cars and as the number of car inventory in the market is increasing, used car prices are falling down. Just imagine a used BMW 3 Series clocked just 300 km is available at Rs 25 Lakh and a used 2008 Honda City at Rs 6 Lakh. Even the three months old Maruti Suzuki Alto is tagged with a price of Rs 1 Lakh. There are people who are benefiting from the downturn and buying luxury and high-end used cars at a much affordable prices. So, it’s the best time for those who desire to buy high-end cars at affordable prices. Labels: Indian-car-industry, Maruti-Suzuki-Cars, Used-Cars

Why has the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) opposed the Government’s plan of importing used cars to India? Nobody is sure of the reason but some resources state that the SIAM has a doubt that trading of cars will greatly hamper the growing car industry in India. Importing can be a great risk to the Indian industry. SIAM even has a doubt that the used cars imported in the country are among those that are thrown out. These are simply a waste for them and that’s the reason they trade out these cars. Should our government encourage such kind of trading? Would we actually benefit something out of this? No. Then why the Government is supporting import of used cars? Labels: Car-Import, Used-Cars
