In less than ten day’s time from today, another new model from Tata Motors will be launched in India. We have been waiting for a long time now for the Tata Indigo Vista and it has been announced that the Indigo Vista will be launched but with an all new name.

Tata Indigo with its new name, Manza, will be launched in India on the 14th of this month.

It is still a mystery as to what would have led Tata in changing the name of the car. A very good possibility is that the company wants to give the customers a new feel about its new car. And this, the company would have thought would not happen with the little amendments on the existing name. And so a new name and a new identity is expected to bring in a new boost for the sales of Tata Indigo now renamed as Tata Manza.

The Manza will be launched in Mumbai by the Chairman of the Tata Motors, Ratan Tata. The Manza will be built on the same platform as Tata Indica Vista, but it will be an extended version. The highlights of Manza will include spacious interiors, projector headlamps, centrally mounted instrumental panel, steering mounted audio control, and a dashboard similar to that of an Indigo but boasts of a superior trim.

The car will be available in both 1.4-litre petrol engine and 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel engine. The expected price of the car is Rs. 5.5 lakh for the petrol model and Rs. 7.5 lakh for the diesel model.

New Tata Nano Cars in India
Tata Motors is getting ready to deliver the first batch of Tata Nano cars to the 1 lakh owners across the country. The Nano car owners will get possession of these small wonders in last week of July. Mr. Ratan Tata is expected to hand over the keys to the first Nano car owner in Mumbai. Tata Nano has been one of the most awaited cars in year. It has attracted attention in India and abroad.

So when the first Nano cars hit the roads it will be highly scrutinized by common public and others. Every part of the car will undergo examination by all and sundry. It will be a more severe examination than the study by experts who have okayed the car for passenger mobility.

Since Indians like to rely on the word of mouth, the testimony of Nano car owners (first batch) will be of vital importance. It will be an acid test for Tata Nano which it has to pass to sell its cars in large numbers.

We hope that Mr Ratan Tata is better equipped to deal with public criticism this time. The last time Tata Motors they launched their dream car Tata Indica in 1998; it left people asking for better quality product. Tata Motors was required to re-work certain design in Tata Indica to make it satisfactory to customers. Tata Motors is going to be the most discussed car manufacturer in the world when Nano appears on roads.

All the hype that was generated since the concept car was first showcased in Jan 2008 Auto Expo, will now depend on the word of the customers. We can call it the Nano’s moment of truth!

CNG seems to be the new mantra of the Indian auto industry and everybody wants a piece of the pie when it comes to CNG. Just when Maruti Suzuki announced their willingness to bring out CNG variants of their existing cars, Tata Motors who didn’t want to be left behind in the rat race for cars powered by CNG, has jumped in the bandwagon.

Tata Motors could, in the next six months, launch their CNG variants of Tata Indica and Tata Indigo. Currently, CNG versions of these models is being offered by the company with after-sales fitment of gas kits. Tata Motors which is not new to CNG variants had been making these variants about three years back. But they stopped as they see CNG variants as viable options.

Tata Motors perceives that CNG will be the ultimate clean fuel to run cars. The recent discoveries of the natural gas in the Krishna-Godavari basin in Andhra Pradesh, has encouraged most car manufacturers in India to plan CNG variants for their existing portfolio. Car manufacturers feel that CNG variants will be highly successful commercially compared to diesel, LPG or hybrid cars. The government too is expected to enhance the distribution network by the end of next year.

CNG or compressed natural gas is considered a clean fuel for its low emission levels and high performance. It does not hamper the power output in any way.

If this happens, India will be the first country to make wide use of CNG cars. Even United States and the Western European countries do not make use of this technology today. It is important that car manufacturers in India make full use of the technology to show other countries that it is capable of innovation.
