Green is the new colour code and Tata Nano is all set to embrace it with gusto. Well, Tata Motors is planning to bring in a hybrid version of its cheapest offering, the Nano. Hence, there is a probability of the world’s cheapest car aiming to become the world’s cheapest hybrid car! Ratan Tata, the Chairman of Tata Motors feels that the car industry's future lies in eco-friendly models. As a result the company is joining the other carmakers that have already gone green. The company is also contemplating on the electric version of the Indica Vista in India by 2011 after studying the feasibility in the country. The car is now being developed with a green technology engine for the European countries of Britain, Norway and Denmark with a collaboration of Norwegian company. Mr Tata also thinks that low-priced goods would create stronger demand than high-end products in India, and the so-called low-price revolution would continue across the world. A hybrid version the Tata Nano could go well with the general mass in India and across the globe. At present, people are showing an inclination to eco-friendly cars. Tata Motors has been contemplating to relook at the price tag of its newly acquired Jaguar Land Rover cars. This perception came to the Indian car behemoth as a result of fall in luxury car sales due to the ongoing global slump. The most important thing in these rainy days is to sustain manufacturing of these luxury cars. So, Tata Motors have decided that upcoming models from Jaguar Land Rover will cost less. The future cars from Jaguar Land Rover will come in light-weight aluminum bodies to reduce weight and cut CO2 emissions. Moreover, a hybrid powertrain is also in the pipeline that will be introduced in future models of Jaguar and Land Rover. Many new models are under development and will be rolled out in near future to revive the sale of luxury cars. All the new features will be developed in India to reduce the cost of these high-end cars. Tata Motors believe that a slash in price is likely to boost the sale of luxury cars in the global market. Except for India and China, the luxury car markets in the US, Europe and Japan have witnessed a decline by 16%. In India Jaguar Land Rover cars are showing a steady sale of one car per day since the day these cars have been launched. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is a British automotive business owned by Tata Motors of India. It was structured as a single unit to manage the businesses of both Jaguar Cars and Land Rover, which were acquired by Tata Motors from the Ford Motor Company in 2008. The world’s cheapest car, Tata Nano will soon be ruling the small car segment in India within a year, provided everything goes according to Tata Motors’s plans. Maruti 800s and Omnis which were the chief people movers in India now would be taken out of the roads of eleven cities by January 2010 as they have failed to meet the required Indian emission norms. Tata Nano could benefit the absence of Maruti 800 and the Omnis as the possibility of a worthy contender to the Nano at least now has been marginalized. But the important question here would be Cab Tata produce enough units of Nano to meet the demands of the Indian small car buyer looking for an alternative for Maruti 800 and Omnis. Even if the Nano becomes the highest selling car in its segment, it would take some time to fill in Tata’s coffers. Tata Motors posted almost Rs 2,500 crore as loss in the last fiscal largely due to the tribulations of its UK subsidiary of Jaguar and Land Rover. Technically speaking, Tata Motors has to sell at least 2.5 lakh units of Nano to make up for the loss. The company may be in a position to produce the Nano in these numbers only by the end of 2010 once its plant at Sanand, Gujarat becomes operational. The basic model of Maruti 800, is priced at Rs 2.15 lakh whereas the Nano is attached to a price tag of Rs 1.35 lakh. This small car with its small budget is alluring prospective car buyers in India. Now with M800 and Omni phased out in eleven cities, Nano will positively rule the roads. These cities account for one out of two cars sold in the country. So we can imagine India teaming with Nano. Good Luck to you, Nano! Labels: Highest-Selling-Cars-In-India, Tata Motors, tata nano

Fate has a queer way of doling out success and failure. While Ford was in possession of Jaguar and Land Rover for over five years, it continued to face losses from these two car brands year after year. It was forced to finally sell off these entities to Tata Motors. Around the time of the sale, Jaguar was a loss making company and Land Rover could be seen in more favourable light. But within a year of the sale, tables have turned and Jaguar has picked up well and is expected to become profitable very soon. On the other hand, Land Rover has lost its edge over sibling Jaguar and has been sucking up revenues. Fuel-guzzling SUVs went out of style with the spurt in fuel prices. Land Rover sales dipped. Contrary to this, Jaguar’s new XF Sedan was a clear deviation from conservative design and this change has been working for Jaguar. The XF was well received in all its markets. People loved its sporty long flowing design and appreciated it new range of engines. They were made by Ford and Tata has been reaping the rewards. A new 515 bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine replaced the long standing 4.2-litre V8 of the XF. The engine also offered enhanced torque of 625 Nm. The XF helped put Jaguar sales back on track and it has sold 65,000 units in a single year. This was far ahead of the numbers foreseen by Ford when Jaguar was in its possession. The new XF challenged the Audi RS6, BMW M5, and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. Now Jaguar is bringing the revolutionary XF to India this year to treat Indian car buyers to a rare combination of history, speed, and world class engineering. Finally the two premium car brands Jaguar and Land Rover, now owned by Tata Motors, will make appearances in Indian this June. The news of these legendary British car brands coming to India was on from the time of Tata has acquired them. All Jaguars and Land Rovers will be imported to the premium car division at Ceejay House in Worli, Mumbai. This will be a significant move from Tata Motors that will further increase the company’s reputation in the domestic market and also on the global scene. The range of models that will enter Tata showrooms in India are XF and XK from Jaguar and Discover 3, Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport from Land Rover. Tata is the first Indian car manufacturer to make such a privileged deal and it’s a matter of pride to see these two premium British car brands in the country. How the cars will be received by Indians remains to be seen. Labels: Jaguar, Land-Rover, New-Car-Launch, Tata Motors

Several big car brands are being off-loaded by American car manufacturers. Ford recently handed over the iconic brands Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors. Car manufacturing biggies such as Ford and General Motors have a large number of popular brands under their wing. In the ever changing global market of cars, these large car corporations have found it difficult to sustain a vast spread of car brands and models and have resorted to unloading a few of those that have been pulling them down. General Motors has decided to sell off the popular ‘Hummer’ brand. In the glory days, Hummer has rolled out several bad boy SUVs across the world. These mean machines have been quite popular with the US army and have seen a lot of action in battle. They have even starred in quite a few hollywood war movies.
General Motors is putting the Hummer up for sale. Both Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, who were front runners for the Jaguar and Land Rover dealer, have shown interest. Labels: Hummer, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors

Jaguar and Land Rover have held their identities even under the ownership of Ford Motors. They have managed to keep their British image intact. Jaguar and Land Rover are well know brands. After all the speculations, it has been clarified by the company that Jaguar and Land Rover will retain their identities. They will continue to pursue their independent businesses.
It was noticed that West Midlands which houses a lot of popular automotive companies were apprehensive about Tata Motors. The take over by an Asian company has not been considered favourable by some quarters of European automotive sector. With this declaration, the European companies might get happy.

Tata Motors is now modifying its cars. Tata’s flagship model Indica continues to innovate itself to suit contemporary times even though it is over 10 years old now. The auto sector was ready to write Indica off from list of cars available in India and in the mean time the car has revamped itself in to a new avatar. The Indica V2 Xeta now comes fitted with a dual fuel engine-petrol and LPG and the price is still the best in the industry. The LPG variant will improve fuel efficiency considerably. Maybe with a petrol full tank and an LPG kit, the car needs no re-fuelling. It will make Indica a rare visitor to the petrol bunks. Labels: Indica V2 Xeta, Tata Motors

Every now and then it is making news in the global market. It has now gone to US to drive in an eco-car. Tata Motors has entered into an automotive contest in US organised by New York based Progressive Automotive. The condition to participate in the contest is that the cars should have mass appeal and the candidates must have a capacity to mass produce them. The car should be able to achieve 100 miles per gallon fuel equivalent. Tata Motors UK has applied to participate in the contest. Many European car companies have already shown interest to participate. With so many high profile companies participating in the context, the prize money is also huge. Labels: Tata Motors, US Contest

Tata Motors is now coming up with new automated assembly line operated by robots at its plant in Pune. The new automotive line will employ 326 robots in a single line. This will also reduce the production time per car. Earlier the company has 70 robots per line. Honda is another company that has used robots for production at its plant. Mercedes-Benz in Germany has similar unit operating at its plant. Tata Motors looking forward to enhance the production and bring down per-car-time-spent to just one minute! This may also help to roll out the Nano quickly in the market. With this Tata Motors will be able to roll out cars like soaps and detergents. Labels: Robots in car plant, Tata Motors

We know that everyone has enough of Tata lately. Since January it has been in news for several reasons like launching the world’s cheapest car to acquiring the ultra luxurious brand of Jaguar and Land Rover in March last week. But the company does not fail to impress the hardcore business houses of the world. Among the Indian car manufacturer, it is fast rising and the most well known name in the world. Tata is the first Indian brand to achieve a position in the list of largest global brands. It ranks 57th among the top hundred brands of the world. Part of the credit for achieving this position goes to acquisition of British car brands Jaguar and Land Rover. The buyout has pushed the Indian company to global limelight. We hope that the company may just scale the number higher when the little wonder Nano is launched in October-November this year. Labels: Nano, Tata Motors

The Jaguar and Land Rover deal is far from over. The intended fund raising of $ 3 billion for the buyout is likely to be completed by this month. Tata is likely to settle the deal after the payment of the amount to the ex-owner Ford Motors, USA. The deal is likely to push Tata on global map. An initial consortium of eight banks was interested to raise the desired amount. It is amazing that International banks have shown so much interest in an Indian company’s intention to buyout a luxury brand. The process is long but a very transparent one. Only Tata could accomplish such a transparent trade off where in all transaction are like an open book. Tata is surely a leader not only for its character but also for its achievements internationally. Labels: Jaguar and Land Rover, Tata Motors

Much has been written about acquisition of luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata motors. People, who are obsessed with super luxury cars, may be waiting eagerly to put their fingers across for these luxury brands in India. But, they will have to wait for at least five years to drive home Jaguar and Land Rover in India. So much so hype has created on JLR deal that many had thought Tata will introduce these brands in India may be within one or two years. In fact, Tata has no plans to launch these luxury brands in India for the next five to six years as it is now only concentrating to revamp these brands and roll out in USA and other western countries first. Tata might think of launching these cars in India after success of these cars in other countries. For Tata, success of these brands in other countries has become very crucial to strengthen its position in overseas mark Labels: Jaguar and Land Rover launch, Tata Motors

When Tata Motors announced the availability of Rs 1 lakh car Nano by October many were left wondering what would be the situation of our already overcrowded roads. But this fear seems not to be a reality in the near past. News is that Tata Motors will be rolling out just 50,000 cars from its Singur plant during 2008–09. Vendors associated with the people's car project told expect an output of around 15,000 units between September and December going up briskly to 35,000 units during January-March of this fiscal. Tata Motors has already announced that the bulk production would only start in 2008–10. Besides its plant in India, Tata Motors has plans to manufacture and assemble Nano cars in South Africa for the African market. Labels: Nano, Tata Motors
Are you fed up of old toxic fumes spitting taxis, then click a picture and keep it with you because the scene may soon become history with the advent of air cars. Major cities of India will be buzzing with compressed air cars starting from this year. The air car will serve as taxis in major cities like Mumbai and Delhi. We are sure that these cars will bring down pollution level. India will get the delivery of 6000 compressed air cars. Apart from India, other countries like Germany, Sweden and France have also placed order for these cars. And guess by whom this car is being built! Of course, our own Tata Motors which brought the rights for air cars from a European based car manufacturing company-MDI. Labels: Air-Cars, Tata Motors

Tata Motors has done something that no car manufactures have ever done before in India. With the Jaguar takeover, Tata has given a new turning point to the Indian Automobile Industry. According to a section of UK press, Tata could now compete with the Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Nissan, the ultimate luxury statements, if it increases production of Jaguar and Land Rover. The marketing would not be difficult as Jaguar and Land Rover are strong brands of style statement in UK, US and other developed economies. If the company decided to go for aggressive marketing and hike production volumes, then it would surely catapult Tata to the elite club easily. But still we have to wait to see if other Indian company would go for such a strategy.

Tata Motors is planning to introduce hybrid technology on its fast selling small car Indica. Don’t jump the gun and ask when it will be launching, because Tata is still developing the technology. Industry experts say that Tata is likely to launch it in 2011, but that is just a speculation. The date is quite far off for those who want hybrid car immediately. But what we know for sure is that Tata motors is developing a hybrid Indica with an amazing technology never tried in small cars before in the world. Tata Indica could come up with a petrol-electric hybrid which will give 20 kmpl and 200 kilometers per charge. With this technology Indica hybrid owner will need to go for refueling only once a week, or even less depending on the car usage. Labels: Hybrid Car, Small Car, Tata Motors

Tata Motors is slowly spreading its wings as a major car manufacturer of the world. After having established itself as an owner of luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover and also as the creator of the world’s cheapest small car Tata Nano, it’s now eyeing the position of a major international player from India. Tata has now bought the unused plant of Nissan in South Africa. The details of the buyout are not known but what is known is that Tata wants to make South Africa its assembly hub for their popular car models Indica and Indigo and also for its commercial vehicles. South Africa is already a major car market outside India for Tata’s cars. Tata has a presence in 10 African countries and is planning to expand it while making South Africa a hub for all African operations.

Jaguar and land Rover have created a sensation in India after Tata Motors acquired the iconic luxury cars recently. Hitherto, the cars were unknown to Indian masses till the takeover bid was announced. But Jaguar cars have been owned by British Royalty’s like Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles and is the ultimate society statement in UK. But little has been known that Jaguar have long been favourites of some of Gujarat’s erstwhile royal families. Maharaja Chaitanyadev Sinhji of Wadhwan owned Jaguar E-type which he raced across several car races in world. He now owns a XJS Jag. Another jumping cat symbol car was owned by Maharaja Jyotindrasinhji of Gondal. His favourite is a Jaguar car and he raced the XK 150 Jaguar in the 70’s. After getting downgraded by rating agencies, Tata Motors is now hopping for a better rating after announcement of a new refinancing plan. But this may take a few months altogether. The refinance plan is expected as Tata Motors clinched a major acquisition deal with Ford to own the Jaguar and Land Rover. Tata Motors have paid 2.3 billion dollars for the deal. Eventually, the deal will be financed through a mixture of debt and equity. Last week, Crisil, a rating agency, downgraded ratings on the auto major's cash credit facilities from 'AA+' to 'AA-/stable'. But the agency has removed Tata Motors from 'Rating Watch with Negative Implications' list. The auto major has taken a USD 3 billion bridge loan to take over the two iconic brands and meet the working capital requirements with a combination of debt, liquidation of existing investments. The company also plans to raise a fresh equity of USD 1 billion. Labels: Auto market competition, Ford, Jaguar and Land Rover, Tata Motors

The process of acquisition of prestigious British car brands Jaguar and Land Rover is finally nearing completion. It seemed to drag on forever. Ford is finally signing on the dotted line to hand over the brands to Tata Motors. They hope to wrap the whole thing up by 26th March. The JLR deal has generated much interest in the global media. Tata Motors got very bad press coverage from US and UK. Inspite of it all, they have finally closed the deal. There were a series of hurdles in Tata’s way towards these acquisitions. Tata Nano has once again become a show stopper, this time at the ongoing 78th Geneva Motor Show at Geneva in Germany. People are thronging to the Tata Motors’ pavilion. Since the Nano was unveiled at the Auto Expo in New Delhi recently, curiosity about the world’s cheapest car had left people around the world waiting eagerly. At the motor show, there are several expensive cars on display such as the new Lamborghini Gallardo, Audi R8, Toyota iQ and not to forget the Porsches, Ferraris, Mercedes-Benzs and BMWs. For several years these high-tech marvels have allured and captivated people at the auto show but now a cheeky car such as the Nano has stolen the limelight completely. Tata Motors has been participating at the Geneva Motor Show for the past 11 years but has never before seen so many interested spectators. Now, because of the Nano, even famous car manufacturers are queueing up to check out the $2500 car. I recently came across news that Tata Motors will be able to manufacture 4000 to 5000 Nano cars every month. I find the number really pitiable compared to the hype it has generated. It seems that it will be able to reach a bigger production capacity of 18,000 to 20,000 cars per month only 4-5 months after start of production. With this minimal number, I think the Nano will be gone within a few seconds of appearing in the market. Being a Nano aspirant myself, I haven’t seen such a mad rush for a vehicle since the launch of Bajaj scooters in India in the 80s. I dropped by a Tata dealership recently to see if I can book a Tata Nano. To my surprise, I found that the car has been booked all the way till 2010 and then I wondered ‘Mera Number Kab Ayega’? However, it’s good news that the Nano is finally rolling out in October or early November. It’s officially announced. I’ve been waiting for that car for a very long time now. When critics said that the car would be delayed till 2009 or further, I had become a little apprehensive and had almost convinced myself that the car would never hit the market. Though, I’m forced to wait in a long queue for the car, I do have this thing to look forward to. Until then I’ll just continue to drive my old Maruti 800. After launching the world’s cheapest car for the ‘Aam Aadmi’, Tata Motors now plans to make vehicles for our Indian Army. Tata will display the ‘Light Specialist Vehicle’, a Humvee-like military vehicle that can carry out diverse missions including Special Forces missions for the military. Indian military currently requires 30,000 to 40,000 such vehicles. Tata Motors should come up with state-of-the-art vehicles for the Indian Defense Forces. Moreover, an Indian company supplying to the Indian defense should remember not to compromise on quality.
Today’s warfare is more technically dependent than ever before. Tata should have a separate defense wing catering to Indian military needs. I hope more Indian companies join hands with Tata Motors to make this country self-reliant in defense. After all there is no dearth of talent in India!
