Nissan’s contract for the sourcing of Maruti Suzuki’s Pixo will expire in 2013. Right now, Nissan Motor Company has confirmed that the sourcing of the vehicle to overseas markets will continue till the expiry date. Why do you think all this has suddenly come up? Well, it’s just the after effects of the gossip that a reconsideration of the Maruti Suzuki-Nissan deal may happen after Volkswagen decided to buy a stake in Suzuki Motor Corporation in December 2009. The objective behind Volkswagen’s stake purchase was to source industrial efforts and gain knowledge on how Nissan rolls out the small and fuel-efficient car plans for high-growth markets like China and India.
Did you know that Nissan has already placed orders for 35,000 Pixo units for 2010-11? Wondering what it plans to do with so many units? Well, all these cars will be heading to Europe. Three years of the contract is still at Nissan’s disposal and it buys 35,000 units a year from Maruti Suzuki. However, the number will not stay there. If the demand increases the Pixo units too would increase. It seems like the number has already been revised to 54,000 units.
Will the Maruti Suzuki-Nissan deal not be affected at all? Will it manage to stay out of trouble? Maruti Suzuki does not have a replacement for Pixo and this economic car competes in the competitive European car market with the Lupo from Volkswagen. The Lupo is another compact car. So, will the deal still survive for another three years remains a big question.
The accessible city car, Pixo is low on carbon emission and is fuel efficient too. The price of the green car being very competitive, it stands a very good chance of surviving in the European car industry. The theme of compact motoring in the town and city with exceptional friendliness towards nature just reveals itself in the Pixo. The five-door car can easily accommodate four adults. The interiors have enough space for you and your luggage. All thanks for the luxurious inner space goes to the car’s design and packaging.
Going to the construction of the Pixo, it is very light and this shows up in the performance as well. The low fuel consumption and low carbon emission levels are among the best in the small city car category for Nissan in Europe. The depletion of the ozone layer is becoming a major concern all round the world. Germany and UK too are trying their best to bring down the pollution levels. The governments in Germany and UK are offering special incentives. You can take your old generation emission vehicle and bring back a new generation one. Great exchange right? Wish we have similar incentives in India.
In UK and Germany, the A-Star, which is sold as Alto by Maruti has received a good response and orders are showing a steep increase. A similar response is being hoped for Pixo. Will it be the same? Well, we need to wait a little. The 3,565 mm-long, 1,470 mm-tall and 1,600 mm-wide car has a wheelbase of 2360 mm. It is competing in the fast growing A-segment. However, though small, the Pixo is far from a micro car. Five doors stand proof to this and we already know that this compact car with enough roominess can be considered ideal for city driving. Honda Motor Corporation on the very first day of the Delhi Auto Expo unveiled its concept small car which will be hitting the roads by early 2011 in India. This small car has been conceptualized for emerging markets like India and Thailand to begin with but may gradually be launched in the global markets. The name of the just-unveiled small car was rather unusual as Honda simply preferred to call their car as “New Small”. The design of the cars looks very modern yet contemporary with extensive usage of LED lights. Though the grill of the “New Small” resembles that of the Honda Jazz, that’s where the similarities end as this new car has a design which is out of the mill with raked C-pillar, clam-shell bonnet with a nice twinge of curves and bends along the body of the car. If the sources are to be believed, this small car will be powered by a 1.0 VTEC engine, while the 1.2 litre engine from the Jazz might also be a possibility. This car is slated to compete against the Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift and the base version of the Hyundai i20. Also at the Honda bay was the CR-Z concept, the first sporty hybrid to sport a manual gearbox, the entire range of Indian cars, three Jazz concepts including a Mugen-tuned version and ASIMO, Honda’s humanoid robot. Honda Motor will join other global auto makers, which are keen to tap into the budget-conscious Indian customers' demand for such compact cars. In India, Honda Motor operates as Honda Siel Cars India Ltd., a joint venture with an Indian business conglomerate Siddharth Shriram Group. Tata Nano, the little wonder from the Tata Motors stable has reached the masses literally. In a recent lottery draw held by Tata Motors to allot 1,00,000 Tata Nanos to its lucky owners, there is one owner who is will feel very blessed to have his dream car. Maruti Bhandari, a cobbler from Mumbai suburbs is one amongst the 1,00,000 lucky owners of the Tata Nano. Maruti was saving up to buy a motorcycle, but the idea of owning the ‘one lakh rupee car’ caught his fancy and he finally zeroed his choice on Tata Nano. He booked for a top-end variant of Tata Nano by paying a cheque of Rs 1.4 lakh in April. Now that he has been selected as one of the lucky owners of Tata Nano, he is elated and feels honoured. Maruti Bhandari is of the opinion that the Nano was designed for people like him who could afford the car and fulfill their aspiration in the process. Beaming with pride, this cobbler when asked about his Nano by a television channel, he said “Mera family ko ghumane le jaunga (I will take my family around)”. He is expected to get the keys of the Nano within a few weeks time when the delivery of the car begins. Thank you, Ratan Tata for making Indians re-live their dream of a inexpensive car again. The newly launched A-Star is though only few months old in India, it is rejoicing a presence of 30 years in the international car market. The car is named as Alto in the foreign market that has provided an affordable mass mobility for years. In the year 1979, Osamu Suzuki (Chief executive officer of Suzuki Motor) conceptualizes a car with a cheap price tag for common masses that becomes realty with the birth of the Alto. The car is successfully running in the global market with the same fundamentals. The first Alto made its debut with a 500cc engine and in just one month nearly 1500 cars were sold. Alto set a new benchmark in the small car segment and despite many new entrants, the car still holds its position in the segment. The success of the Alto is not limited to its native, it also spread its tentacles in other car markets. With the passage of time, the car witnessed many generations and each generation saw a new makeover of the car. Suzuki Alto’s 30 years of long journey fetched the car as well as the brand several appreciations and accolades. Such a long stay of the car in the highly competitive car market is worth praising. The 2010 Auto Expo at New Delhi could see a new entrant from South India. Andhra’s MLR Motors plans to showcase a prototype of its small car at the Expo if everything goes according to the company’s plan. MLR is promoted by former Hyundai Motors President BVR Subbu and is owned by Hyderabad based M Lokeshwar Rao. The company is in talks with the government and private financial companies to start production of the prototype hatch. The company has tied up with a European firm to source engines. MLR Motors acquired a defunct Daewoo plant in Andhra Pradesh for manufacturing the car. It was not revealed which European company is helping MLR with the engines. The yet-to-be-name car is expected to be a hatchback with petrol and diesel variants. The prototype is already developed by the company. If the production models hit the roads, MLR would be the third passenger car company to have no foreign origin others being Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra. Apart from them, all other passenger cars in India have their origin in abroad. MLR has no joint venture with any major foreign car manufacturing company so far. However, engines will be sourced from a European company and the car will be built in Inssdia, which is a clear sign of excellent expertise of Indian automobile engineers. Hyundai rejoices the success of i10 as this small and global car achieves fastest sales of three lakh. Though in the recent times Maruti Suzuki Swift and Chevrolet Spark has also reached the three lakh mark but the i10 beats its competitors in terms of time required to reach this significant mark. Hyundai i10 was launched on October 31, 2007 and went global in December 2007. And have experienced three lakh sales in even less than two years. This marks a new milestone in the successful history of Hyundai in India. You would be glad to know that out of the total three lakh cars over 1.44 lakh cars have been sold in the Indian car market and around 1.56 Lakh units were exported across Latin America, Middle East, European Union, and South East Asia. And the maximum sales it rejoiced in Germany. Hyundai has always focused on providing the best of design and technology along with best value for money. And the success of i10 is nothing strange because it has all the winning attributes that reflect the tradition of Hyundai cars. The car is innovatively designed, inspiringly luxurious, intelligently driven, and intuitively safe. And a series of awards the Hyundai i10 had received in the year 2008 along with the ‘Indian Car of the Year’ award is a sure sign of its credibility. Skoda India decides to take a new and futuristic route to success. Though it is already riding on a successful track since its entry in the Indian car market, the company now aims to raise its profit scale. It feels that the best way to do so is by accomplishing the market need and the aspirations of Indian car buyers. Eyeing the current trend and demand of small and cheap cars, Skoda too plans to join the bandwagon and roll out cheaper small cars on Indian roads. Small cars are making wonders in the price conscious Indian market. Leading car manufacturers are ruling the Indian roads with their small but powerful weapons. Skoda has recently announced to launch the new variants of its flagship model, the Skoda Fabia with the same perspective. The small car will be designed using the expertise from both European and Indian units. Skoda has taken a smart initiative by planning a new small car for the Indian market which would certainly push the brand closer to the pockets of India’s vast middle-class whilst building a strong product portfolio. Hope this new car too brings similar success like the other Skoda models brought for the company. Labels: New-Car-Launch, Skoda-India, Small Car

Prospective customers of Tata Motors Nano have shifted their interest from September Nano to 2009 Nano. By this we mean that all those customers who were eagerly waiting for the launch of the Nano are now planning to wait another few months to buy Nano variants. Even though the first version of the Nano has not yet launched, Tata Motors has made an announcement to launch better versions of the Nano in early 2009. The company themselves spread the speculations that the proposed versions will be better in terms of comfort, performance and fuel efficiency. The Nano was mainly targeted towards first time buyers who were not disposed to buying high-cost, but if the company plans to roll out better cars in the same price segment then the target of buyers’ increases. A first time car buyer who has waited so long to buy a car will willingly wait a few extra months to buy the best car falling within his/her price range. With this shift in interest, the company is planning to space the launch with less deliveries in October 2008 and more in January 2009. According to the company, this will help them balance the car sales better. Labels: Nano, Small Car, Tata Motor

Electric cars have received poor response from Indians. India’s own Reva has been the most successful venture among electric cars in the world. Bangalore-based Reva Electric Car Company is seen to vroom only in a few cities in India. It was only recently that the decks were cleared for Reva cars to hit the national capital Delhi. For a country like India, this is too little. Electric cars continue to post poor sales and receive very little encouragement from the Government. But UK has already taken a liking to this car. There are over 1000 cars running only in London. The British authorities have already granted special rights to the Reva car and cut down taxes. They also provide concessions like free parking with free electricity supply for re-charging. These proactive steps from the UK government encourage fuel efficient cars like the Reva to become popular among lawyers, doctors, architects, corporate executives, and various others. One peek at India reveals that the government is spending several crores on promoting and encouraging highly polluting cars and added to this, we have no stringent norms on emission levels. Makes me wonder if there is some high level of politics going on in the Government that we as people of India are not aware of! We had heard lot about the Bajaj Lite and Renault’s small cars project. When the Bajaj-Renault agreement ran into rough weather, it seems that the car had gone into oblivion. Even the tri-party agreement between Renault, Nissan and Bajaj seemed to be headed nowhere. But now the sun shine on the ambitious small car project is back. Bajaj-Nissan and Renault have formed a joined venture to develop the low cost car. The car will cost Rs 1 lakh and is likely to hit the road in 2011. So far, the car is under development and so is the plant in Chennai where manufacturing of the car will take place. Renault-Nissan-Bajaj small car will soon be ready to compete Tata Nano. Hyundai Motors has made its remarkable presence in small car segment by introducing stylish and affordable cars like Hyundai i10, Getz Prime, Santro Xing. Hyundai has always been attentive and alert about its position in the car market. It will not take any chance to loose its customers. Hyundai will soon launch Hyundai TB (Think Basic) which would fall in between Santro and Accent. Hyundai has planned to launch new TB to get hold on Santro’s customers opting for other cars than Santro. The new TB will probably replaced Santro Xing in India. The new Hyundai TB is slightly bigger than Santro with more striking looks and style. It would be able to carry five passengers with more spacious interiors. It will offer 3 engines to choose from. Hyundai is expecting to launch this vehicle immediately after its international launch. Labels: Car market, Hyundai Motors, Small Car

All speed enthusiasts who were fed up of rumors about Ferrari’s entry into India, will now have reasons to smile. Many enthusiasts were confused and kept under darkness by rumor mongers in auto industry over Ferrari arrival. Some thought it would hit Indian roads in next five years, some had information that it will come in next 3-5 years and even some had info that it will not be coming to India. Now, keep all those rumors at bay as Ferrai will hit India in 2010. Fiat which owns this legendry brand clarified Ferrari will be seen on Indian road in next two year. There will be no more delay than this. Before entering India, Ferrari is planning to set up sales and marketing network in India so that enthusiasts will get it at right time. Driving fastest cars like Ferrari is going to be more exciting in India when most roads are being flooded with small cars and two-wheelers. Labels: Ferrari, launch in India, Small Car
Tata Motors is planning to introduce hybrid technology on its fast selling small car Indica. Don’t jump the gun and ask when it will be launching, because Tata is still developing the technology. Industry experts say that Tata is likely to launch it in 2011, but that is just a speculation. The date is quite far off for those who want hybrid car immediately. But what we know for sure is that Tata motors is developing a hybrid Indica with an amazing technology never tried in small cars before in the world. Tata Indica could come up with a petrol-electric hybrid which will give 20 kmpl and 200 kilometers per charge. With this technology Indica hybrid owner will need to go for refueling only once a week, or even less depending on the car usage. Labels: Hybrid Car, Small Car, Tata Motors

Tata Nano may further become cheaper when it hit the Indian roads in next few months. The appearance of Tata Nano, world’s cheapest car at auto expo has stirred up Indian auto industry and stunned many car manufacturers who thought manufacturing of 1 lakh car was just impossible. It’s all history now. Tata Motor is again waiting to give one more surprise by further reducing the price of Nano. If reports are to be believed, Tata has formed a team to find out ways to cut down the cost of its Rs 1 lakh car. If the price of nano come down further, buyers of this car will be doubled than present one as all most all families would own it by bidding good-bye to their two-wheeler. The ‘Spark’-ling success of Chevrolet seems to have created new hopes for General Motors in India. The company is set to come up with a new small car exclusively for India with a cheaper than GM's current lowest priced car in India. It will be a new addition to the already crowded portfolio of Chevrolet which currently has cars for all segments like Spark to Tavera to Optra Magnum.
Surprisingly, General Motors is doing well when others are witnessing low sales performance. The company is planning two huge facilities and is now planning a small car. Nothing seems to be stopping the Generals’ growth. Labels: Chevrolet, General Motors, India, Optra Magnum, Small Car, Spark, Tavera

A recent piece of news reported that students at Delhi College of Engineering have made a car that can drive up to 170 km on just one litre of petrol. Sounds like a miracle because achieving that kind of fuel efficiency is still a distant dream for even the best car manufacturers. Perhaps this is why most of them have turned to hybrid cars. The ‘170 km’ car costs just Rs. 3.5 lakh to build and can seat only a single person at a time. Looks like universities and their students are managing to create what many qualified car engineers have been unable to achieve. Proper training and financial support will work wonders for this niche pool of talent. Labels: hybrid cars, Small Car, student projects, universities

A lot of changes have been taking place in the small car segment since Tata Motors unveiled their Rs. 1 lakh car ‘Nano’ at the auto expo. It has encouraged many car manufacturers to start their own small cars on the lines of the Nano. Previously, I had read about Bajaj, Mahindra, Nissan and Renault planning to bring out cars similar to the Nano. Now, I just found out that Suzuki had prepared ground and had taken up a small car project called ‘A’ long before the launch of the Nano at the expo.
It’s a big challenge for car manufacturers to fit their small cars with efficient engines and good standard equipment. It seems to me that many car manufacturers still have no clear idea as to what type of engine would suit their ultra-cheap small car. I know that Suzuki’s small car will be equipped with a 660 cc engine and i believe Suzuki is the first to finalise an engine for the small car project.

When I saw two i10 models displayed in all their splendor at one of Bangalore’s famous shopping malls, the crowd around them told me why it outsmarted the Santro despite them being from the same family. Perhaps, i10 is Hyundai’s greatest creations for the small-car-loving junta. Hyundai brought out this exciting new city-car that is fun-to-drive, affordable, and practical. It also offers you quality and equipment that no other car companies can offer at same the price. What’s best in the car for a city drive is its width, which is exceptionally long compared to its competitors. I talked to friend who bought this small wonder and he said that it was the best decision he has made yet. I am definitely willing to catch the “i”! I’ll put in another blog once I get my Hyundai i10 delivered and have had a go in it! It looks like new cars from BMW will be available for sale earlier than expected. BMW is seriously working on its product and dealership expansions in India. As part of this process, they announced the first launch in line is the Mini Cooper. BMW has plans to sell 1,200 cars that is an increase from the earlier target of 1,000 units. Mini will be the first small car to launch in India from this German automobile giant. Big or small BMW is BMW, so there won’t be any compromise in luxury. This expensive premium small car may cost somewhere around Rs. 15 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in India. Mini was developed by the Rover Group and manufactured by the British Motor Corporation. Later BMW stripped itself from Rover in 2000 and started working on the Mini project as BMW Mini. India, where small car industry is on boom, will definitely have a high demand for the Mini Cooper. Heard about the recently unveiled concept cars in the New York Auto Show in April? Global automakers presented concept vehicles and a few were good enough to win the green signal at first sight. The Chevy Beat from GM was one of these winning vehicles. GM has hinted that Beat might be produced for the retail market. This concept car is considered as the next small car from GM to launch in India. In the show, GM showcased three mini concepts; Beat got the highest public support for its production idea of bringing to the market a right-sized car with a right-sized ecological footprint at the right time. This hot hatch is expected to sport a four-cylinder engine in India. GM has a pretty good demand in the Indian market. However, the Chevy Beat has to win its place and compete with its hatchback siblings - the Aveo U-VA and Spark. We may just see the back of one of these models soon or maybe GM is feeling hatch lucky in India. Labels: Auto-Shows, Chevrolet, Concept cars, GM, Indian car market, New launch, Small Car

Honda, after toying around with the idea of introducing a small car in India for a long time, has finally done it. The ‘Jazz’ or ‘Fit’ as it is known in some markets will hit the Indian road by the first quarter of 2009. ‘Jazz’ would directly compete with Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Getz. ‘Jazz’ is designed keeping in mind the practical requirements of a driver. It is expected to provide better mileage compared to the Swift and Getz. The Honda ‘Jazz’ sold in the American and European markets is equipped with a 1.5L Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control engine that pumps out 109 hp. This system is developed by Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a four-stroke internal combustion engine. But in any possibilities this will not be the engine specification for the Indian markets. Except for the small engine (which will be less powerful), the car will be at its best in terms of its exterior and interior styling. Honda is one of the top car manufacturers and is known world wide for its reliability and ace technology. Honda ‘Jazz’ cool!!!... was the reaction I got from some of the Honda fans I spoke to after they heard about the launch. This premium hatchback car will cost between 4.5 Lakh to 6.0 Lakh, priced slightly higher than other cars of the same class. However, the wait is far from over. Tata and Fiat are in the news again; first it was with Tata Motors One-Lakh Car, then Tata’s recent partnership venture with the Italian Fiat Auto followed by their first joint venture project Grand Punto and Linea (B and C segment cars respectively) which will be launched by 2008. Today they are on this page because they are taking up another new step in the small cars segment. This new car is to be launched by 2010 and will be a possible replacement to the Palio. Since the Palio has been a slow mover compared to the other small cars of same class, Fiat-Tata decided to replace this model and have already started working on the developments of the new car. This ‘jugalbandi’ is currently concentrating only on the Palio petrol version (1.1 and 1.6 liter). The other versions like the Fiat Palio (diesel version) and Fiat Siena/Petra have been discontinued. Their joint network will definitely increase their distribution and servicing strength. Fiat has approximately 65 dealers and is planning to expand to a 100 more by 2008, when the new Fiat models will be launched. Let’s wait and watch for this new under-cover small car, maybe it will prove to be a lucky charm for Fiat! Labels: cars-India, Fiat, Indian car market, Launches in India, Small Car, Tata

Hyundai is pressing forward in news with its Indian-made compact i10. Here are a few more of my favorite things that caught my eye while checking out the i10 launch. Hyundai has confirmed that i10 will be stepping into 75 countries from India. Hyundai is trying to show that its trendy Indian i10 can appeal to a larger geographic. The initial details ascertain that India would be the sole production and export hub of this car. The figures of the export status of Hyundai are already good. The export sales of Hyundai cars have grown by 17.4 per cent, mainly due to the export of 113,339 units in 2006. Also, in the overseas sales, Hyundai has already surpassed the 300,000 export cars mark. It's easy to see Hyundai's head is caught in i10 these days. Apart from these developments, Hyundai is setting up one more plant near Chennai that will produce an additional three lakh units per annum. From this news we can expect a raise in the total production capacity of Hyundai by six lakh per annum by the end of 2008. Over optimistic or good foresight – you decide? Liked the news of coming 20 models in India for the year 2008? Maybe you’ve been following the filter of information flowing out of our portal about the coming 2009 models also. The world of automakers has booked the year 2009 as well. Let’s check the year 2010 now. We're finally starting to list out some solid information on the 2010 year models. Hooray, here’s the first one. The car majors Nissan and Renault, along with their local partner Bajaj Auto have confirmed the plan to launch a US $2500-car in India. Howz that??? We have seen Renault’s strong relationship with another local partner Mahindra. I think it’s from M&M that they learned the importance of working with local partners. Now it’s Bajaj to ride Nissan and Renault’s new car in India in 2010. The names of the cars are yet to be known. The rumor is that the talks have been going on among them on the car from early 2007. The trios dream to manufacture a $2500 (1 Lakh) car felt possible in India. But they encountered major hurdles in exporting the vehicle to markets such as Europe, China, Brazil, Mexico, and United States. As India is turning to be a die-hard play ground of global automakers for small cars, the trios decided to fully concentrate on making the car for India and making it competitive. Will catch up with you with more 2010 launches in India. Check out our Blogs and Articles section at Carazoo for auto news before it happens. Our prediction that Hyundai PA will be unveiled before Diwali has come true. Finally, the Korean auto major has decided to launch the codenamed car on 1st of November. PA's true name is i10. i10 is designed to bridge the gap between the Getz Prime and Santro Xing. Now, we have varieties to choose from. i10 is expected to take Hyundai sales statistics to even greater heights. Indians being compact car lovers, the company has chosen a right place for its launch. i10 is expected to be priced between 3.5-4 Lakh - definitely a worry for other competitors. Yet to be launched, i10 comes with a feather in its cap. This is a first compact car to come with a sunroof. Apart from all other striking features, this is one of the most arresting features that show-off luxury for a really small amount. The car is said to wear clothes of ten different colours. Diwali is around the corner and if you have been waiting for the right car all this time, then i10 might just be your answer. GM India touched its highest sales statistics yet, in India. Since General Motors introduced its vehicles to India, this is the first time the firm has enjoyed a profit with such high margins. General Motors cruises ahead of its competitors with the extremely affordable Chevy Spark and the value-for-money Aveo UV-A. GM has sold more than two times the units it sold last year in the same period. General Motors India for the first time beat Ford Motors India in the market share. With the festive season on in India, GM has cut down the price of Spark by over rupees 50,000/-, which is also one of the reasons for the auto major to enjoy boosting sales. Because the offer is available only for a limited period, no wonder people are rushing to GM dealers spread all over the country. If General Motors consider extending the offer for another few days there is no doubt that our pavements will be full of GM brands. Recently, GM India has announced a new price for Chevrolet Spark. Chevy Spark will adorn a price tag that is reduced by Rs. 53,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). This offer is available across all Spark variants and is applicable only for the vehicles booked between 12th and 22nd of this month. This scheme is to mark the centenary celebrations of its parent company, General Motors Corp. Now that the Chevrolet Spark is available for Rs. 2.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) it might see a sudden jump in auto sales. This discount is offered on Spark keeping in mind its popularity and to make it even more popular. Spark is a compact car, which runs without any trouble and makes parking in crowded city roads easy. Spark’s aerodynamic built and S-tec engine contribute to the car’s fuel efficiency. Roomy interiors and loads of safety features make it a safe and spacious car that is easy to maneuver on city roads. However, the GM celebrations have come at the right time – because now is the time for festivals and cashing in. After all, once the Tata One-Lakh Rupees car launches next year, it will definitely bring gloom to the small car market holders. It’s been a long wait, but it’s true. The Fiat Grand Punto will introduce a new phase of Hatchbacks in India. It may look a little like the Maserati from the front, but no one seems to be complaining! Fiat Grande Punto is a premium B-segment category car with famous Giorgetto Giugiaro Italian design. From Grand Punto’s new style cues we can expect some changes in the familiar looks of small cars in India. The Indian small car market will definitely love the choices. Take a look at the sporty interiors of the Grand Punto. Comfortable and supportive cool looking seats and the sexy dash definitely provide some class. The Fiat Grand Punto has been given the Euro NCAP five-star rating for passenger safety. So expect a small car with strong safety cues. The model is expected to have a 1.3-litre multi-jet diesel engine from the Suzuki- GM- Fiat alliance engine plant. For the launch of Punto, Fiat has signed a deal with Tata Motors. After all, Fiat is well bonded with Tata in its Manufacturing and Marketing. Tata-Fiat is expected to launch Grand Punto along with the Tata Rs 1 lakh car in India in 2008.
