Mercedes Benz AMG GT3 CarThe New York Auto Show is all set to start off and we have some info about the magic Mercedes is going to create. The Mercedes limelight is going to be on the SLS AMG GT3 race car.

At this point of time very little is known about the spectacular GT3. The car has got some new bodywork using a great deal of carbon fiber, with a large front splitter, a racing diffuser, vented hood and massive rear spoiler. The car will race in the 2011 FIA GT3 Series in Europe.
Right now, Mercedes does not have any curb weight numbers. It’s all in the hands of the FIA to determine how large and how powerful a version of the stock car’s 563 bhp 6.2-liter V8 the race car gets.

The lightweight construction and better handling dynamics of the SLS AMG proves it to be a highly competitive racing car. The GT3 version is Mercedes’ response to strong customer demand. The crowd wants a car designed for the attractive motor sports series and Mercedes is just obeying the customers. This indeed will be a stunning racing car for the sporting customer.

Along with the launch of the SLS AMG, this GT3 variant will be presented by Mercedes-AMG. The racing version of the gullwing model has an eye-catching design and classy motor sports technology. This car is surely going to comply with the GT3 specifications of the FIA. It has been designed for the sporty customers competing in sprints and long-distance races. So, great excitement is on its way. Mercedes cars are already enjoying worldwide popularity. Now, with the new GT3, it is going to bask in glory.

With the GT3, Mercedes is stepping on to a new level. The expansion, manufacture and promotion of its sports racing cars will now be projected for customer use. Come this year end and these customer cars will start selling. The car will be ready with the official approval for the 2011 racing season just in time.

The new GT3 is wide, flat and has impressive racing car looks. Aerodynamic performance is what you’ll find for sure. Want more info on the newcomer? It has a new front apron with a splitter, a bonnet with central cooling air vent, wider front and rear wings, new side wheel arch air vents, side skirts with cooling ducts for the rear brakes, smooth underbody with a rear diffuser and adjustable rear aerofoil.

All these features make sure of a low drag coefficient and maximum downforce at the same time guaranteeing efficient cooling of thermally highly stressed parts. The C-pillars accommodate the standardized filler pipes for the fast-refuel system.

The maximum output, however, of the AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid engine with dry sump lubrication on the Balance of Performance principle, will be determined by the FIA. The reason behind this would be to ensure that all racing cars taking part have a fair chance. The curb weight too will be determined at the same time.

The engine will be mated with a sequential six-speed racing transmission with steering wheel shift paddles and an integrated multi-disc locking differential. The transmission is located at the rear axle. A torque tube connects the engine and transmission and a carbon-fibre shaft rotates at the engine speed in the tube.

The central-locking AMG light-alloy wheels are positioned by a double-wishbone suspension of forged aluminum at the front and back. Everything from the adjustment facilities for the springs and shock absorbers, the stabilizers, the suspension height, the track width and camber have been designed for the racetrack. The rack-and-pinion steering has a more direct ratio and speed-sensitive servo assistance for alert handling. The composite steel racing braking system with racing ABS ensures exceptional decrease in velocity.

The interiors too are outstanding. The steel rollover cage ensures that the driver is in safe hands. The racing bucket seat with a six-point seat belt and head and neck support system is simply superb. The central display is just perfect in the driver’s field of vision. It displays everything from speed to engine rpm, operating temperatures, lap times and the selected gear. The open-top racing steering wheel with gearshift paddles permits the perfect control of the car. The car also has an integrated fire extinguisher system.

F3 Racing Car Powered by Chocolate and Wine
Here’s a piece of intoxicating fact. A car powered by chocolate. Sounds straight from the movie Charlie and the Chocolate factory, right? This fact is truer than truth. The world is blessed with a ‘green racing car’ that is powered by chocolate and steered by carrots and drinks wine for fuel. This is blog you won’t regret reading.

This is the world’s first green racing car, fabricated from woven flax, recycled carbon fibre and carrot pulp. This racing car will soon be making its debut in the Formula 3 Championship finals on 17th October.

A team of researchers from the University of Warwick designed and built this green racing car. The car runs on biofuel made from chocolate waste, alcohol distilled from leftover wine and animal fats and is lubricated with plant oils. Amazing, isn’t it?

The car is not just eco-friendly, but speedy and torquey too. It can vroom with a top speed of 216 km/h and can achieve 0-100 km/h dash in a cool 2.5 seconds. Moreover, this green supercar is turbocharged to give more torque.

The research team is successful in proving that high performance, competitive cars can be successfully built from sustainable materials. The research team wants to show the world that green car can be fun and fast too. The project is aimed ‘to show ways for the future, for people to race and be green’.

Middle-eastern sheiks and Russian oil barons are the only people who would not like to see a world run on chocolate and wine. But for us, dreaming of a better world just got better. Cheers! Hic!

The Caparo T1 can really make eyeballs pop out and jaws drop. This T1 is not a race car but a very common road-going car. In fact, this is a perfect combination of Formula 1 technology and a normal car.

The Caparo T1 is a British mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, two-seat car manufactured by Caparo Vehicle Technologies. The car is designed by a group of ex-F1 engineers. The car was designed to prove the world that the speed of a F1 car could also be felt in a road legal car.

The T1 comes with a 3.5L V8 supercharged engine that can deliver a maximum power of 575 bhp. The engine has been reported to successfully reach 700 bhp of power on methanol fuel. The engine is controlled via a fully tunable Pectel SQ6 engine control unit and the throttle is controlled via a throttle-by-wire system. The T1's gearbox is a 6-speed sequential made of a magnesium and carbon construction that has a variety of available gear ratios and utilizes a pneumatic actuator to shift.

The Caparo T1 has a top speed of 330 km/h. It can accelerate from 0–100 km in less than 2.5 seconds. The car is low on fuel consumption, showing an excellent mileage of 21 km/l.

The exterior of the T1 is similar to a Formula One racing car. The body is made of carbon fibre with aerodynamic low drag body design. It is composed of individual sections, with an adjustable twin element front wing, single element rear wing, and fowler flaps and a ground effect diffuser. The wings are replaceable with road and track variations. There is the option to fit a tow bar and off road tyres which make it a useful day to day car.

The interior of the T1 lacks any amenities and luxuries to reduce excess weight. The passenger's seat is set back from the driver's seat slightly, allowing the seats to be placed closer together, thereby reducing the overall width of the T1.

A head protection system is placed, a six-point harnesses for the driver and passenger, compatible with a HANS device. The car is designed with a central safety cell made of a high-strength steel roll hoop with a fire system. The dashboard is multi-function with race data logging and speed sensors for traction control as well as the launch control.

On top of all these, the car has an Indian connection. The car company, Caparo is owned by an Indian, Angad Paul. The T1 is a fusion of western technology and eastern ingenuity.

Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari has been trapped by the car rallying bug and is all set for another annual rally after an impressive debut performance in Arctic Lapland Rally.

Another car rally that Raikkonen is to participate is the Rally della Marca alongside co-driver Kaj Lindstrom. The young boy is very excited about the rally as this would be his first experience of rallying on the tarmac. He also feels thankful to Scuderia for giving him a golden opportunity to participate in this adventurous rally. Scuderia is a division of Ferrari automobile that mainly looks after racing sports.

The 2007 Formula One World Champion entered two rounds of the Finnish Rally Championship in the winter with the Tommi Makinen-prepared racing car, the Fiat Abarth Grande Punto S2000. Raikkonen will use the same car for the 26th Rally della Marca. He wonders what magic he will do behind the wheel of the Grande Punto but still has high hopes to win the competition.

Power of hydrogen is commendable when it comes to a clean and renewable fuel for the future.

Amazingly, the power has been unveiled by a hydrogen-powered racing car that is known to break the speed records in its class. Powered by an internal combustion engine of a motorcycle, further modified to run on hydrogen, the racing car is expected to reach a top speed of 170 km/h.

Built by Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Germany, this hydrogen-powered car is known to change the approach and attitude of the car industry in near future. It’s a sure shot hit and will definitely tag hydrogen as a promising alternative for fuel in near future.

If hydrogen can break the speed records of cars running on petrol and diesel, it is definitely one day going to replace these running fuels and carve its own position in the industry.
