Well, another car manufacturer has woken up from its deep slumber and taken notice of the fast growing small car market in India. This time around, it is a Japanese carmaker better known as Mitsubishi Motors. Mitsubishi is considering the launch of a compact family hatchback in India over the next three to four years. Mitsubishi is planning to bring the new small car that it is developing for the Thai market. The project, which is intended to attract investments into the Southeast country, is being backed by the Thailand government. This car is built on a new platform and features a 1.3-litre petrol engine. Mitsubishi would likely retune the engine and decrease the capacity of the car in India, so as to avail the advantage of the excise duty norms laid out by the government. Passenger cars lesser than four metres in length and engine capacity of not more that 1.2 litres in petrol and 1.5 litres in diesel fall under the lowest tax slots in India. The Indian arm of the Japanese motor company, however, is denying any such plans. Pritam Saikia, head-Marketing, HM-Mitsubishi refused to offer any comments. He said, “Although India is an emerging market for Mitsubishi, it is too premature to comment on our future product plans, including the small car. Having said that, all our expansion plans are on track and we will take a call on our small car plans at a later point of time.” The company has earlier planned to launch a compact car in India in 2011-12. But the plan took a back seat following the economic meltdown and a scarcity of funds. But as things pick up pace, the company is reviving its old plans. The plans also included reinforcement of fresh capital to increase the production capacity at its Chennai plant to 1,00,000 units from about 12,000 units annually. The development of the eco-car is funded by the Board of Investors in Thailand and an aggregate of Baht 8 billion, equivalent of Rs 1,100 crore, has been earmarked for the project. The project meets the criteria earlier set by the board which requires a minimum production capacity of 1,00,000 units per annum. Small cars have always proved to bring in the much desired (or needed) sales volume for a car maker. The most suitable example would be the Ford Figo. Figo helped save the Ford boat that was sinking fast. Hope Mitsubishi small car would do the same trick for the carmaker. Mitsubishi has been in India for more than a decade but the absence of a small car has been a major drawback affecting its market share. Mitsubishi has so far launched only its premium sport utility vehicle (SUV) and upper mid-size sedans in the Indian market. Mitsubishi currently sells the Pajero, Outlander, Montero, Lancer and Cedia in the Rs 7.75 lakh to Rs 38 lakh range. Better late than never. What say! Mitsubishi has brought forth yet another facelift of Outlander and the front, keeping in sync with the car’s character, looks really aggressive and masculine. The Outlander has got the snout from the EVO X and it has certainly added an interesting dimension to its design. A host of improvements on Outlander’s exterior style language have the capacity to please anyone’s visual senses. Now, it has got a Jet Fighter Grille with silver trimmings and bumpers that remind you of EVO X. The gaping grille is flanked by projector headlamps featuring cornering lights that increase visibility during night driving. The sports like styling of the car is completed with new side mirrors, fenders and hood, a new rear bumper and side sills. Mitsubishi has again played with the interiors of Outlander (and for the better). New seat, door and dash trims, grained leather to premium models, double-stitching, chrome accents and a brilliant new instrument cluster. The music system gets upgraded with a USB slot and an AUX port. Instrumentation cluster, too, has gone through massive changes including an updated colour LCD display, a multi-information display and a cooled glove compartment. The odometer, tripmeter and other information now can be accessed with the touch of a button, even when the ignition is of. Can you beat that now! Technological advances include the addition of Mitsubishi’s acclaimed Super-All Wheel Control system (S-AWC) to V6 models, improvements to power delivery and fuel economy and Hill Start Control (HAC) for all CVT and automatic models. Safety features have also been improved on the new Outlander with driver and front passenger dual stage SRS airbags, active stability control, ABS with EBD and RISE body protection and three-point ELR seatbelts. Side and curtain airbags are also available on all models. The diesel version of the face-lifted Outlander will reach India by October 2010. The engine is likely to 2.0 litre turbo diesel capable of producing 140PS and 228 Nm. Outlander is expected to feature a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will premiere its Mitsubishi ASX all-new compact crossover from Tuesday March 2, 2010 to Sunday March 14, 2010 at the 80th Geneva International Motor Show held at the Geneva Palexpo in Switzerland. Adapting Mitsubishi’s jet-fighter-inspired front end design, the ASX is the European-spec version of the Japan-only RVR, which goes on sale from February 2010. The ASX Compact Crossover will seat five adults and will be released across Europe in stages from late spring 2010, aimed at increasing the brand’s passenger car fleet in the region, following in the footsteps of the larger and recently redesigned Outlander mid-size crossover. The European-spec version will be fitted with an all-new Euro 5-compliant 1,8-litre turbocharged direct-injection diesel engine, coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. Incorporating “Automatic Stop & Go” technology, this combination promises to provide high environmental efficiency. Considering the CUV's small size and presumably light weight, that combo should yield impressive results at European pumps. The Mitsubishi ASX price will be announced at a later date. Considering the recent market globalisation concept followed by many International major car makers here in India, and the demand for luxury cars here, we might soon see the Mitsubishi ASX also reach the Indian shores. Mitsubishi’s soft-roader SUV Mitsubishi Outlander extends its portfolio. Mitsubishi Outlander after proving it’s capabilities on and off road by fossil fuel is now ready to get a blue powerhouse too. Mitsubishi is all set to show a concept model of a plug-in electric vehicle, Mitsubishi PX-MiEV based on the Outlander. The interesting point is that we need not wait for its arrival keeping our fingers crossed for long. Mitsubishi PX-MiEV is expected to grace the upcoming Tokyo Autoshow scheduled to start on 24th October this year. Mitsubishi promises none before fuel economy figures for this plug-in hybrid SUV. The hybrid version of Outlander will be powered by a 1.6 litre gasoline engine and 60kW electric motor. The gasoline engine can deliver maximum power 85kW at peak while the electric counterpart will deliver 65kW. The mileage of Mitsubishi PX-MiEV is 50km/ltr, (read it once again) and we are talking about an SUV with this unbelievable mileage figure. During normal running PX-MiEV will utilize power from electric source but if additional power is required the gasoline engine will boost the output. All other basic Mitsubishi SUV features like Mitsubishi’s all-new S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) and luxurious interiors are part of the offering. Sounds interesting right? Stay tuned for further updates coming further… Labels: Electric-Vehicle, Mitsubishi-Outlander, Mitsubishi-PX-MiEV, Soft-roader, SUV

Mitsubishi Outlander has just become the first ever premium SUV in India to pass Bharat Stage IV emission norms with BS III fuel. It has been awarded the certificate by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) declaring it fit to pass the emission norms which come into effect from April 2010. Outlander demonstrates its superior technology by becoming the first SUV to have gained this certificate. As per the guidelines BSIV emission norms require vehicles to limit carbon-di-oxide levels to 1 gm/km while the other toxic gases should be a few milligrams. The carbon levels in the Outlander is at a mere 0.49 gm/km and others are lower than the specified limit. Since Outlander is equipped engines that have Mivec technology which helps keep all the harmful gases within limits even while it uses BSIII specification fuels. Mitsubishi Outlander can now hit the dirt trail without ever puffing out those harmful gases. Outlander joins the small cars like Maruti Suzuki Ritz and Honda Jazz which were launched with engines that comply with BS IV emission norms. As more and more vehicles get engines which adhere to stringent emission levels, our cities will just get cleaner. Better air quality is the need of the hour in big cities in India. Our children have a right to clean air and clean water. May be car manufacturers can contribute their bit by introducing engine which harder for the environment cause. Mitsubishi Outlander is one of the best cars that have recently rolled out on Indian roads. The car is doing just wonders in the market but still there are many who are not happy with the appeal and front look of the car. For many the Outlander is just a plain looking car that evokes no sort of emotions and maybe because of that many don’t feel like buying the car. It’s a well known fact that whenever new thing comes in front of you the first thing that appeals you is the looks. Now to get rid of the simple look, the car manufacturer plans to jazz up the front fascia with the looks borrowed from the Mitsubishi Evolution X. You’ll still find the same silhouette, same design, but only the nose will be different. And amazingly the looks carried over from the Evo X blends well with the actual design flow of the car. Though the company decides to give a new look to the Outlander there is no confirmation on whether the Evo-faced Outlander will go into production. And if yes there are no details as to when the market will witness the launch of the new faced Outlander. Labels: Mitsubishi-Cars, Mitsubishi-Outlander, New-Car-Launch

After a long and continuous series of confusion and speculations, finally comes the Mitsubishi Outlander. Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi Motors together introduced the sparkling SUV to the Indian car market. Priced at an all India price of Rs 20.2 lakh (ex-showroom), this new SUV is a sophisticated and distinctive car. Do you know that the company claims that the new Outlander will deliver the best of the both the worlds to its customers? But is that true? Best of both the worlds goes beyond the extent of eternal joy and pleasure of driving the car. We know that it’s difficult to define expressions for the car unless and until we have the wheel in our hands. But if the company is so sure about the performance, there will be definitely something to beat the SUV market. The Outlander is designed with an advanced 2.4 litre petrol engine, well-appointed interiors, and attractive exteriors. The advanced engine technology, 16 valve MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing and Electronic Control system), is the backbone of the car. Even more attractive offer is the pack of advanced safety features installed in the car. So, in short, Outlander is designed to deliver the best of all-road capabilities, performance, and fuel efficiency. Labels: Hindustan-Motors, Mitsubishi-Motors, Mitsubishi-Outlander, SUV
