In India it is known as Maruti Suzuki A-Star, but outside India it is Suzuki Alto. The car now has a new mileage record to its credit. The car has completed a mileage marathon in Australia. And this time it was successful in achieving a mileage figure of 25km/l overall. And this is a record. The car had an amazing mileage of 50km/l in city. And these amazing numbers helped the car become the most fuel efficient car of all the vehicles that was a part of the marathon. The Suzuki Alto had completed a marathon run across New Zealand last month, averaging as much as 22.5km/l.
The marathon, Global Green Challenge, ran from Darwin to Adelaide in Australia. It placed conventional and alternative fuel cars against each other in a 3,040km real world test. The winner of the challenge was the vehicle judged to have recorded the biggest progress over its official fuel burning figure. The 'Light' and 'Small' car categories were won by the Suzuki Alto. It also topped the 'Best urban cycle' category and recorded overall CO2 emissions of 89.9g/km, using just 123 litres of fuel for the seven-day trip.
The Suzuki Alto or rather Maruti Suzuki A-Star uses a simple combination of lightweight design, aerodynamic efficiency and a small and efficient 1.0-litre petrol engine. The Alto was able to beat similar size diesel cars such as Ford Fiesta ECOnetic Turbo Diesel and MINI Cooper D, cars those are widely accepted as the most fuel efficient cars in the segment. The competition amongst car manufacturers is really going tough. Every car manufacturer wants to achieve the top position in the market. With the launch of Tata Nano, car manufacturers have felt the need to bring out better car models to attract buyers and boost car sales. One of the leading car brand Maruti Suzuki is now thinking of revamping its entire range of car models. All the cars from Maruti’s stable will experience a subtle makeover in a span of two years. The sporty Swift will be seen with all new design and a new petrol variant as well. The most popular and the highest selling small car Alto will get two new variants equipped with the revolutionary KB series engines. The new Alto variants will be positioned against Hyundai Santro and Chevrolet Spark. There are speculations that the Alto will also come with a stripped down version to directly compete with the world’s cheapest car Nano. Maruti car models like popular WagonR and not so popular Versa will also undergo minor changes. Even the M800 and the Omni will be upgraded under the hood to meet the new Bharat-IV emission standards. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will also be available with a new engine. After a series of new launches from Maruti Suzuki, the company is now looking forward to improve and modify its existing models. With new variants in the new attires, Maruti Suzuki models will definitely spark a new excitement in the Indian car industry. Maruti Suzuki’s bread-and-butter car ‘Maruti 800’ will see back stage after running successfully for 25 years on India roads. Though sounds shocking yet it’s true that the car manufacturer has decided to bring the curtains down for India’s first people’s car. This decision by Maruti seems to be unrealistic especially at the time when the new century people’s car ‘Tata Nano’ has hit the showrooms. This is a time when Maruti would have competed with the Nano with an upgraded version of the Maruti 800. But the decision to phase out the Maruti 800 is viable because with new and tighter emission norms entering the Indian car market, it would be difficult for Maruti to keep the 800 stable on roads. Even the Omni may find obstacles to survive in the market after the BS IV emission norms get applicable. From next year BS IV emission norms will be applicable in almost 11 cities across the country. So the M800 and the Omni will be phased out in those cities. But in other cities people will still be able to drive the 800 as the new emission norms will take some to enter. Maybe by 2016 both the highest selling Maruti cars will be completely phased out from the Indian car market. And this will definitely change the faith of Indian car market. During this time of financial depression, Maruti Suzuki and Bank of Baroda (BoB) join hands with each other. The partnership is signed aimed at providing easy finance to Maruti cars buyers and simultaneously increasing the car loan portfolio of the bank. This joint venture is not just a significant move for the car manufacturer and the bank but also for car buyers. Whenever any buyer will approach a dealer of the company, the salesman will spell cost advantage of taking loans from BoB, which will also act as a brand promotion for the bank. Talking about the car buyers, the dealers will make them apply for a car loan in the nearest BoB branch, and the bank will approve the loan within 48 hours. So, this will benefit the customers as they’ll be able to manage finance easily during this time of credit crunch. Most of the car enthusiasts love and prefer buying Maruti cars. This is mainly because of the low maintenance cost and high durability of the cars. Driven by the increasing demand for Maruti cars by car consumers, the company has introduced a new engine plant in India. Excitingly, this new car plant has a production capacity of 240,000 fuel-efficient petrol engines. More number of engines definitely means increasing number of cars. Speculations reveal that the company is expecting to design a new KB series of engine that will probably power the upcoming car Maruti Suzuki A-Star. This proposed car is likely to roll out somewhere between December 2008 and January 2009. Many of you must be waiting for the car. Longer the wait better is the fruit! With this the company also plans to push up car sales and attain desired sales in the domestic car market. Labels: Car-Market, Maruti-Cars, New-Car-Plant

It’s high time that Maruti should shift its small car portfolio to high performance sedans and retain its supremacy in the country. Maruti started the production of its small and beautiful Maruti 800 past 25 years. It was one of the earliest cars in India after the Fiat Padmini and Ambassador. The car was the best during that period and was highly competitive in terms of performance, comfort and drivability. But now, the time has changed. Today, Indian car market is predominated with a vast number of hatchbacks, sedans, SUVs and MUVs. With so many new cars coming in, the old cars are gradually moving out of the industry. Fiat Padmini is already overpowered by various other Fiat models and the old Ambassador has been replaced by new features including the new engine technology. Now, it’s the turn for Maruti 800. The Maruti 800 is still running successfully on Indian roads but how long will this small car run? Today Maruti Motors is associated with a sturdy, stylish and elegant car like Maruti SX4, the sizzling compacts Maruti Swift and Maruti Alto. Maruti cars are having a tough competition within themselves. Alto is competing with 800, eventually slowing down the sale of 800. However, Maruti has the best-in-class technology in all its car models that make Maruti cars a better option. But then, 800 has to drive out to give way to next generation cars. Wow! A car with the title ‘A-star’ is ready for immediate launch in the Indian car market and will definitely hold the best ratings. Because ‘A-star means A-rating’! Maruti Suzuki has put across an innovative concept to manufacture its new car, ‘A-Star’. The company has great expectations from the car and has a strong belief that A-Star will establish a strapping and successful platform for Suzuki. A-Star is a replacement for Alto and will hold attractive features that made Maruti Swift a big success in both domestic and international market. It’s Maruti, so the price will also be competitive. Falling somewhere between Alto and Swift, this car will have a tough competition with Nano and other small cars expected to launch in India. Which one will you buy? Nano, i20 or A-Star? Cheers Maruti Lovers! Good news for all those who have been loyal to Maruti cars. With major car companies heading ahead to manufacture small cars, Maruti also plans to foray into the small car segment.
After the announcement of the Nano, Rs 1 lakh car, it was speculated that Maruti is secretly planning a car to compete with the Nano. Though the report was denied earlier by Maruti Suzuki officials but now the same rumors are in everyone’s ear. The company is planning to strip down the standard Maruti 800 and produce a small car with an estimated ex-showroom price of Rs 1.2 lakh, about Rs 75,000 cheaper than the current version of Maruti 800. Are all companies willing to compete with the Nano? Or willing to foray into small car segments? Guess…… Labels: Maruti-Cars, Small-Car
