It started with the Aircel Chennai Open 2010 and then with the Ocean Race. Yes, I am talking about the Volvo. Looks like Volvo is looking up and down and right and left to promote its cars. It is doing its best to enhance the brand. Now, it has entered the world of cricket. The tennis courts of Chennai Open showcased the luxurious SUV, the Volvo XC90. This time, the Volvo S80 D5 takes over. The “ Man of The Series” in the ongoing India-South Africa ODI tournament will be awarded the recently launched Volvo S80 twin-turbo diesel car. If playing well in three matches can get the lucky one this luxurious car, I wished I could play too. Moreover, this is going to be the most luxurious car ever to be given to a cricketer in India. Nice trick Volvo! This is surely going to drive your sales up and up and up. Since a very long time sports sponsorship has been a very successful strategy for promoting products. When it comes to cars, Volvo wants to grab the opportunity. It wants to take maximum advantage. The managing director of Volvo Auto India, Paul de Voijs feels that sports sponsorship gives them inspiration as well as exposure. He also said that it served as the ideal platform to showcase the Volvo brand and at the same time, gave them an opportunity to interact with potential customers. The Volvo S80 D5 AWD displayed at the three stadiums in Jaipur, Gwalior and Ahmedabad looks simply amazing. The car features a fine blend of reliability, performance, style, and comfort. The success of this car is very crucial as it can help Volvo decide the future or the introduction of new cars into the Indian car market. The spacious car looks big enough where the whole cricket team can squeeze in for some time at least. The elegant look and dynamic styling will surely make the owner proud. Lucky chap! Who do you think is going to win the series? Who will be the man of the series? Who will be driving the car home on the 27th of this month? Our own Sachin Tendulkar who hit an unbeaten 200 runs( A world record ) in today’s match might be a strong contender for the Volvo S80 D5 AWD as it seems by the way the battling maestro is hammering the South Africans. The silver car with the anthracite black with beige interiors is being displayed at the three stadiums. The car has the latest twin-turbo and peizo high-pressure technology. Let’s see if the performance of the cricketers is going to be as good as the Volvo SUV. Hope the advanced five-cylinder state -of-the-art technology inspires the players on the field. As of now, it looks like the two teams equal each other in performance. I’m just waiting to see who will be the one taking away the man-of-the-series trophy. I’m more excited to see who takes away the Volvo S80. You too? Anyway, the car serves as a catalyst for the players as well as Volvo. We are the only ones who gain nothing but are still as enthusiastic as the players and Volvo. India in recent times has weighted against its counterparts in the west by becoming one of the preferred destinations for luxury car makers. We have heard of Aston Martin searching for opportunities to sell its wares in India, and Porsche outselling the quota of Panameras reserved for India, Rolls Royce planning to sell over 60 Ghosts in India and so on. But what actually catches our eye is Mercedes-Benz, one of the first luxury car makers now trying hard to regain its lost numero uno position to BMW. Mercedes-AMG GmbH, commonly known as AMG, which is a subsidiary of the Mercedes-Benz car company specialising in high-performance luxury cars, is betting big on the Indian market. AMG models typically have more aggressive looks, higher performances, better handling and better stability also comes with a much costlier price tag than their regular Mercedes counterparts. As per a report in popular news daily, Mercedes Benz has managed to bag as many as five confirmed bookings for the Rs2. Crore SLS-AMG within days after it was showcased in the 10th Auto Expo held in New Delhi. For those who came in late, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was showcased in the Mercedes Benz pavilion under the concept of ‘Pure Fascination” at the Auto Show 2010. This car which is a spiritual successor to the 300L has been developed by AMG, the performance division of Mercedes Benz. Following its world premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September 2009, series production of the SLS AMG is now commencing in Sindelfingen, the largest of the Mercedes-Benz production plants. It is to be mentioned that the assembly lines and production facilities in Sindelfingen were brought up to the very latest standards for final assembly of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. This is where specially selected, highly qualified specialists produce the gullwing model substantially by hand. Premium quality is not only ensured by continuous monitoring of the ongoing production process. At the end of the production process, the entire vehicle is subjected to further, extensive quality checks. The unrivalled technology package of the SLS is an alluring proposition: aluminum spaceframe body with gullwing doors, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid-engine developing 420 kW (571 hp) peak output, 650 Nm of torque and dry sump lubrication, seven-speed double-declutch transmission in a transaxle configuration, sports suspension with aluminums double wishbones and a kerb weight of 1620 kilograms based on the DIN standard – this superlative combination guarantees driving dynamics of the highest order. With a front/rear weight distribution of 47 to 53 per cent and the vehicle's low centre of gravity, this extraordinary combination guarantees performance figures at the highest level. The gullwing model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 317 km/h. A fuel consumption of 13.2 litres per 100 kilometres (combined) makes it one of the best in the competitive line-up. A heavy emphasis on hand-production is a characteristic feature of the SLS – for the aluminum spaceframe, the engine and during final assembly. The chassis and aluminum bodyshell are produced by Magna Steyr Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH in Graz/Austria. This highly respected system partner is able to look back on many years of cooperation with Daimler, as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been in production there since 1979. Innovative joining techniques are used in the lightweight spaceframe of the SLS AMG, which tips the scales at only 241 kilograms. Hand-production is also the order of the day at the AMG engine workshops in Affalterbach, where the 420 kW (571 hp) AMG 6.3-litre V8 power unit is assembled on the ‘one man, one engine’ principle. We at Carazoo.com were talking about the 2010 Bentley Mulsanne some months ago. It was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance in California, in the US and was finally launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Now, this “fusion of extremes” is going to grace Indian roads. Though Bentley Motors has not revealed a confirmed launch date of this muscular car, but it is confirmed that the sophisticated and luxury Mulsanne will be launched in 2011 in India. The production of the new model will start in the UK next year. In India, the 2010 Bentley Mulsanne will be imported as Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will attract 100 percent import duty. A 6.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which can deliver 512 bhp and 1,020Nm of torque will power the 2010 Bentley Mulsanne. The car will cost around Rs 1.5 Crore in the UK when it finally hits the market and thus, when the car finally arrives in India it will carry a price tag of nearly Rs. 3-3.5 Crore. An extravagant car should carry an extravagant price, right? The ultra-exquisite Bentley Mulsanne will be completely handcrafted according to the customers' wishes and will go on sale in the US and Europe by mid-2010. The 2010 Bentley Mulsanne will be pitted against the Rolls Royce Ghost. Labels: 2010-Bentley-Mulsanne, Bentley Motors, Luxury-Car

While we were speaking about Mercedes in the earlier blog, we also hit on this story that sounded equally amazing. Hope, you also will be amazed. Green is in and HOW? Just like Mercedes-Benz, its compatriot BMW seems like it had been working very hard to give something clean in return to the nature. We have known that BMW is already working very hard on its new “EfficientDynamics” engineering philosophy which if simplified means cleaner vehicle technology. BMW, in a move to make its cars more eco-friendly has announced that the upcoming 2011 BMW 7-Series luxury car will be available with a twin-turbo-six-cylinder engine in North America. This certainly is a big step ahead for BMW which has always vouched by its big V8 engine for 7-Series. BMW 740i and 740Li of 2011 will be available with BMW’s universally acclaimed straight-six engine that produces 315 horsepower at 5,800rpm and 440Nm of torque at 1,600-4,500rpm. BMW claims the 740i and 740Li will be among the most powerful six-cylinder luxury sedans in the world with this all-aluminium engine doubled with twin-turbos, features high precision direct fuel injection and double-VANOS variable camshaft technology. We guess, like the small cars which is gaining popularity amongst the people, smaller engines also is gaining popularity with the manufacturers of high-end luxury cars in Europe and America. This is in order to reduce fuel consumption and cut back on emissions, while still retaining the drivability that bigger engines offer. This is one among the many plans of Audi, a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen, which has been revealed recently. The company is planning to locally assemble a model in India. Though the company has not specified the model that will be assembled in the country, it has given us a hint that it will be an SUV. And working on this lead the most popular guess is Audi Q5. If the guess is right, then the Q5 will be the third model from the luxury carmaker that will be assembled in India, Audi A4 and A6, being the other two. If you are expecting a change in price then you are mistaken, the Q5 will be still priced at Rs 44.94 lakh for its 3.0 TDI Quattro and Rs 38.94 lakh for 2.0 TFSi Quattro. And there is fine explanation for this and that is the company has already launched the model at the CKD or local assembly price and the company does not differentiate between CBU and CKD. This shift in the location of assembly is a part of the company’s plan to expand its business in the country. Audi till this time of the year has marked a 62 per cent hike in its sales compared to the last year. And this has been a true encouragement for the company in the midst of economic slowdown and it is planning to bring in new models next. The company has also not revealed the expected date on which it will start assembling its model. With most of the information about the model and other details still shrouded in mystery, nothing stops the car lovers in the country from speculating. Labels: Audi, Audi-A4, Audi-Q5, Luxury-Car

Luxury carmaker BMW is hovering on to revive the 3-Series, the company’s biggest-selling model. The new 3-Series is expected to make its appearance at the 2011 Paris motor show. The reintroduction of the 3-Series car was speculated as a result of the ongoing eco-friendly buzz. The new car will deliver excellent aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of only Cd figure 0.24. The 2011 3-Series will come with turbocharged three-cylinder engine in petrol and diesel options and will deliver 150bhp. The petrol version will be cheaper compared to the diesel as it does not have the need for emissions kit demanded by a Euro 6-compliant diesel engine. A remarkable 40 per cent of overall air resistance of the 3-Series will come from the shape and size of the car. And BWM has to meditate on the remaining 60 per cent. BMW’s will retain its customary front-engined with rear-drive design. BMW has also to render on the lightweight three-cylinder engines which will demand very specific suspension settings. The 2016 BMW 3-Series are anticipated to be the first BMW to be fitted with a new type of heating system. This version is expected to trap heat from the exhaust system. Moreover, a heat store is a possibility. BMW is expected to fit the new 3-Series with its new eight-speed automatic transmission, instead of the 6-speed automatic transmission. The world debut of the marvelous Porsche Panamera at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition becomes a unique display with the car being exhibited on the world’s highest platform. The first public appearance of the car was celebrated at the 13th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition with great enthusiasm and excitement. The introduction of the Panamera marks the beginning of a completely new segment of premium luxury cars with a truly unique combination of sporting performance and luxurious comfort. The world class car was distinctively brought to the 94th floor of the Shanghai World Financial Center in China standing straight up in the freight elevator. It is believed that the 94th floor of this center is world’s highest platform that is about 425 meters high. And taking this huge luxury car to such a height standing straight is dazzling. It’s little surprising to know that the manufacturer ‘Aston Martin’ who is well-known for combining power, beauty and soul on wheels has revealed its new ‘ugliest Car in the World’. The 1980s Aston Martin Lagonda known to be the ugliest cars in the world appears in new avatar at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The new Lagonda is far ahead of its old model in ugliness. It now comes with four-seater, 4WD concept car. It is surprising because it has unveiled the car at a time when the car industry is facing a major downturn. Contradictorily, the company has manufactured some of the compellingly beautiful cars in the world like the DBS, DB9, Vanquish and the Vantage. The company feels that the revival of the iconic Lagonda will bring performance luxury in the car market around the world for the model and will further increase the brand reach across the globe. Aston Martin is planning to sell the Lagonda in the international markets like Russia, the Middle East, South America, China, and India. Yes in India too! But it is difficult to say that how many buyers it will grab in the depressed market condition when people are opting for small, cheap, and fuel efficient cars. When the entire car industry was suffering from the pain of low sales due to recession, Rolls Royce rejoiced its success in the Indian car market. The year 2008 was the worst year in the history of car industry as it has witnessed a tremendous fall in car sales even in the festive months when people lavishly invest on luxury items like cars. But few of the luxury car manufacturers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Rolls Royce managed to sell their car models and enjoyed their victory amid economic downturn. Surprisingly, Rolls Royce experienced 20% rise in its sales despite of being one of the costliest car brands in the country. It is unimaginable that in the depressed market condition costly luxurious cars are receiving good response. It is interesting to note that there is a great demand for the Phantom range in the price conscious Indian market. And the new introductions of the model of Phantom Saloon and extended wheel base models bagged the credit for more than half of the overall sales. Even more interesting is the fact that the company’s sales scored by 20 percent continuously for five consecutive years. And now heading with the positive view Rolls Royce is looking forward to introduce RR4 series in the country later this year. Labels: Indian-car-market, Luxury-Car, Rolls-Royce

Despite the present economic downturn, luxury cars are giving challenge to small cars in India. Yes its true! and this is mainly attributed to the low interest packages offered with the luxury cars. When the small car buyers are paying nearly14 percent interest rates, the luxury cars charge only 6 percent. Previously, the loan for luxury cars had a interest rates of up to 15%, whereas the loan for small cars and mid-size were available with a interest rates of 12-15%, making a difference of around Rs 8,000 in monthly payouts on a Rs 18 Lakh loan. As a move to elevate their car sales, the luxury car manufacturers are offering various schemes and offers with their cars. Mercedes-Benz has intelligently announced an rebate of Rs 8 Lakh with its E-Class sedan in order to clear the stocks as the company is planning to launch a new E-class model very soon. Following Mercedes-Benz, BMW has applied similar strategy through its preferred financier ICICI Bank These smart steps taken by both the companies will surely bring back the fading customers to their showrooms. The low EMI will definitely allure car buyers till the economy bounce back to its normal position further increasing the luxury car sales. Labels: Car-Sales, Luxury-Car, Mercedes-Benz-Cars

After experiencing a dull market for a long time, car manufacturers are now rejoicing their Christmas gift. This merriment is brought by the government who has played the role of Santa by gifting them the lowered excise duty. Yes, the 4% reduction in the central value-added tax has tremendously raised car sales. Excitingly, the market that was down from the past few months, have witnessed a number of customers walking into the car showrooms. With this, the December car sales have rose to about 20-25%. Even the piled inventories with the manufacturers are getting cleared. The discounts offered by car manufacturers in response to the lower excise duty had not shown any kind of excitement at an early stage. But gradually, leading car players realized that the rebates have helped improved car sales, especially in the past five days. Cars that have experienced maximum sales are the small cars that account for about three-fourth of the total car sales in December. Car companies like the Hyundai and the Maruti Suzuki have gained maximum revenues from their pleasing small cars like the Alto and Santro. Talking about the sedans, the New Honda City has seen good demand among the consumers. All these car manufacturers has received the gift they wanted. But, luxury car manufacturers like the Mercedes-Benz and the BMW are still in dark because of the high car finance rates. However, with the end of this calendar year, luxury car manufacturers are still hunting for better ways to boost their sales. Labels: Car-Manufacturers, Car-Sales, Luxury-Car

It’s now the perfect time to import luxury cars to India. Importing luxury sedans like the Toyota Lexus and Mercedes Benz S-Class will now be easier, mainly from the U.S because now you don’t need to have safety and emission certificates from the 'country of origin'. Earlier all the imported vehicles required homologation to make any car suitable for Indian conditions. But now the government has drove away the need. Homologation is mainly described as a process of modifying a car to meet the requirements of local standards and quality. This modification actually made the importing costlier. But now, when this is not required, the importers will definitely breath in the air of satisfaction. Though any kind of certification is not required, you need to ensure that all the luxury cars are in compliance to the EU standards. Only then you can rejoice the relaxing rules of luxury car imports. Labels: Luxury-Car, Mercedes-Benz-Cars, Sedans

Audi plans to assemble its model Q5 locally, a Crossover Utility Vehicle that made its debut globally earlier this year. If the volume of this luxury car is high enough, then there is the chance of assembling the CUV in Aurangabad facility near Pune. The company would have to make the Q5 compliance to the Indian condition that is likely to hit the Indian shores by the second half of 2009. Recently, Audi’s sports car R8 made its debut in India with a price tag of Rs 1.3 crore. With this launch, Audi has great expectation and the luxury car manufacturer is confident of selling 20 cars by next year. The Audi R8 had bagged 15 orders even before it was launched in India. This was an amazing response from the price sensitive Indian consumers. The company also has high hopes with its model Q5. Will Audi Q5 be able gather the same attention as R8? Car designing was earlier restricted to the style, appeal and exterior of the car. But now the trend has changed. Everyone wants path breaking aesthetics both in the exterior as well as interior. This has widened the arena of car designing. Whether it’s a high-end luxury car or a small compact car, we always need a warm hug from the car interiors. Car manufacturers and designers later realized the fact that a normal car owner spends much of their time in the interior, either driving, reading books, or listening music and some even spend most of their days in their cars to commute from one place to another. Interestingly, some car owners even ask for customization of the car interiors. Talking about the BMW 3-Series convertible that offers a blend of comfort and luxury with their high-end car seats and the armrest. Armrest has reflective polymers to reduce surface temperature of the leather. Coming to the Volvo cars, it also offers innovative interiors. Similarly, many car manufacturers offer a blend of comfort and luxury in the car interiors to lure more customers. There are many things that can complement the interior today. A long list including the friendly controls, impressive dashboards, hugging car seats, and appealing upholstery, actually define the inner beauty of a car. As it is a known fact that the inner soul is more beautiful than the outer appearance. The same applies to a car’s interior that needs to be more impressive and beautiful than the exteriors. If you have passion for diamonds, then a diamond studded car is something that will definitely attract you and your senses. Yes, it’s astonishing but true. There is a luxury car running on roads completely studded with diamonds. Just imagine how this car looks like. The proud owner of this car is Prince Waleed, a member of the Saudi Royal Family. He is an entrepreneur and international investor who has earned his property through investments in real estate and stock market and is considered to be one of the richest men in this world. Amazingly, this rich man has personified his Mercedes-Benz car with diamonds on the car body. Even more exciting is the cost of the car, a sum of 4.8 million dollar. And, if you wish to touch the car, you have to pay 1,000 dollar. Such a big amount just for touching the car, that’s strange! Wish we could have a car like this in Indian car market. Wake up car importers! It’s time for car importers to open their eyes and see the expected price hike for imported cars. Yes, the prices for imported cars are expected to rise due to the weakening of rupee against dollar. At this stage of downturn, car exporters are rejoicing the market but reality is that the importers will have a tough time. We just wonder how severely this will affect the foreign car manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW, Nissan, Volvo, and Porsche, who are importing their cars to India as Completely Built Units or CBUs. Even Honda CR-V would be affected by weakening of the rupee. This will definitely increase the prices of imported cars. All the luxury car manufacturers are trying hard to cushion the impact on Indian car customers but till how long?
