The Geneva motor show has begun and car makers are busy displaying their small and eco-friendly cars. Each of them is trying to outdo the rest with new technologies wrapped up in the small packages. What does the general public look for in a car? Isn’t it the brand and the wallet-friendliness? While it is possible to get the brand at a rock-bottom price, there’s no stopping. On Wednesday, the BSE Sensex was up 48.76 points or 0.29 per cent to 17,101.30. The average daily volume in the last quarter being 1.36 lakh shares, 1.64 lakh shares were traded in the counter and stocks went from Rs 1472 to a high of Rs 1519.90. Since Feb, till 9 March 2010, stocks had outperformed the market rising 10.75% compared with the Sensex's 6.30% rise. Over the last quarter it underperformed the market, falling 6.78% as against 0.42% decline in the Sensex. India’s second largest selling car maker, Hyundai, has an equity capital of Rs 144.46 crore with a Re 5 face value per share. Rs 1488.15 being the current price, it discounts the company's Q3 December 2009 annualized EPS of Rs 95.19, by a PE multiple of 15.63. The Figo has come out with the destructive price to compete with cars from other auto giants like GM’s Beat, the Maruti Swift and Ritz, the Hyundai i10 and the VW Polo. The cool car has come with 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.4 litre diesel engines. The pricing seems to be superb. The petrol variant prices range from Rs 3.49 lakh - Rs 4.42 lakh and the diesel models are in the Rs 4.47- 5.29 lakh range. The mileage too is simply great; 15.6 and 20 kilometer from every litre of petrol and diesel respectively. As if the Figo is just not enough, Ford plans to launch a few more small cars to make the competition tenser. We know that these little cars have already captured 70 per cent of the domestic market. What are car manufacturers planning to do now? Something more? Just a while ago Nissan and Toyota announced their plans to bring in small cars in the Rs 4 lakh range in India. Maruti shares had risen 0.69% on 9th March and Suzuki Motor raised its stake in the company to 55%. This set off rumours that the move was part of a bigger plan to take full control of India's top carmaker. Only recently did Suzuki raise its stake in Maruti to 55% through secondary market purchases. At the close of the year 2009 Suzuki had 54.21% stake in Maruti. Did you know Suzuki may increase its stake further? In India, carmakers can make acquisitions of up to 5% a year and anything over 55% will require Suzuki to make an open offer for another 20%. So, it’s clear enough now that the increase in the stake must be part of a larger strategy to take full control of Maruti. Suzuki's latest alliance with Volkswagen that saw the German group pick up a 20% stake in the Japanese group further justifies the doubt. Maruti Suzuki India's profits jumped 221.9% to Rs 687.53 crore on a 62.5% rise in sales to Rs 7372.65 crore in Q3 December 2009 over Q3 December 2008. It produces buys and sells cars and parts. With all these changes, we only feel that the big cars will have to shy away a little. The sale of small cars is going to be real quick. The small ones will have to fight each other too with better technologies and pricing as weapons. Which one will you buy? Save oil. Save the world. It is very important to preserve resources so that the future generation too can make use of them. Will awareness on fuel consumption help save it? Fuel needs to be used judiciously. Everybody has a right to fuel and it is everyone’s duty to use fuel thoughtfully. If every individual is aware of the need to preserve fuel, the world would be a happier place. Hyundai Motor India is trying its best to spread the smile by saving fuel. Recently, the Miles and Smiles Rally was held in Ahmedabad by Hyundai Motor India for its i10 customers. After Delhi, Ahmedabad, Gujarat happens to be the lucky city. It was a 77 km rally and a mighty 82 cars participated. Interested in the eligibility criteria and prizes? Well, the contest was for the 1.1 and 1.2 litre categories. The prizes were cash awards. Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 for the winner, first runner up and second runner up respectively. Now, want to know who won? In the 1.1 Litre category the average mileage was 28.2 and the winner was Surjit Singh Vaghela. In the 1.2 Litre category, Yogesh Bhai won and the average mileage was 29.14. Impressive mileage right? The aim of the contest was to encourage fuel efficient driving habits. Customers and their families took part in the competition with a lot of enthusiasm. Everybody was first given a brief presentation on fuel-saving techniques while driving. The tanks were then filled at the nearby IOC filling station. Indian Oil Corporation Limited was the sponsor and Wynn’s Mekuba the associate sponsor. Participants were not allowed to re-fill the tanks during the rally. The rally started and ended at Hotel Cambay Grand. Participants followed the Gandhi Nagar route through NH- 8C and took a U turn at the Chiloda Circle heading back towards Hotel Cambay Grand. The Miles and Smiles Rally also helped the car company engage with its customers while imparting fuel-saving driver education in a fun-filled atmosphere. Saving fuel being the need of the hour, Hyundai Motor India has done its part. The Hyundai i10 is one of the best-selling cars in India and driving it the best way gives the maximum mileage too. Just before the rally began, the odometer readings were noted by the organizers and the trip meter was made ‘zero’. At the end of the rally, the winners took it all. Great job Hyundai i10! The car maker also won the hearts of its customers’ families. A host of games were conducted for the families and children of the participants and they were served a hearty meal too. With customers learning the fuel-saving lesson, Hyundai Motor India too seems to be happy. Wish you too could be a part of the Miles and Smiles Rally? Don’t worry. Looking at the exceptional response in Delhi and Ahmedabad, Hyundai may come to your city as well. Hyundai Motor India, India’s second largest car maker on Monday achieved significant milestone when the cumulative exports of the car company crossed the 10 lakh mark. HW Park, managing director & CEO, HMIL said, “Reaching the 10 lakh export car landmark is not only a significant milestone but also a matter of great pride for the Hyundai family as it showcases the global success story that Hyundai as a brand enjoys.” He also flagged off the one millionth car from the Chennai Port Trust in Chennai. HMIL began exporting cars in 1999 when it shipped a batch of 20 Santro’s to Nepal and it reached the first milestone of exporting 100,000 cars in four years and ten months in October, 2004. In October, 2005 it exported its 200,000th car followed by its 300,000th car and 400,000th car in October, 2006 and August, 2007 respectively. By exporting the 500,000th car in March, 2008, HMIL had become the fastest Indian passenger car manufacturer to achieve this milestone. In a little over a decade since Hyundai has been present in India it has become the leading exporter of passenger cars with a market share of 66% of the total exports of passenger cars from India making it a significant contributor to the Indian automobile industry. The company has also started exporting cars to Australia and is the only manufacturer to do so in such a short span of a decade presence. Currently, Hyundai Motor India is exporting four of its popular models namely - Santro, i10, i20 and Accent to 110 countries. In 2009, in spite of a global slowdown, Hyundai Motor India’s exports grew by 10.7%. In 2010 Hyundai plans to add 10 new markets with Australia being the latest entrant to the list. The first shipment to Australia is of 500 units of the i20 and the total i20 export to Australia is expected to be in the region of 15,000 per annum. In 2008, Hyundai witnessed the fastest exports of five lakh cars from India to various destinations including UK, HMIL Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) Arvind Saxena said. Terming it as a "significant milestone", State Industries Secretary Rajeev Ranjan said, “It is no small achievement. This has been done in a record time". "In 2008, they have exported five lakh cars but this year they have doubled it. It is a significant milestone” he said. Lauding Hyundai's feat, Chennai Port Trust Chairman Subhash Kumar said two multilevel car parkings have been planned in the Port. Urging the Union government to continue the fiscal stimulus package, Saxena said exports may come down if it was withdrawn. "If the stimulus package is withdrawn, then the exports may come down. We have been emphasising the need for extending it", he said adding the demand came down 7.5 per cent in countries like Russia due to the global meltdown. Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has said that it is confident of adding 10 new markets to its export map in 2010. Currently, HMIL cars are sent to 110 countries. It has been noted that Indian car buyers are showing a preference for cars with automatic transmission. Lately, the automatic variants of cars have risen up the sales charts. Most of the cars launched over the past one and a half year come with five to six speed gear box. These cars show a good fuel efficiency, superior pick up and outstanding performance. The Hyundai i10 is one of the top-selling cars with automatic gear box. The car is selling over 1,600 automatic transmission variants per month, which is much more than the company's initial estimates. As a result, Hyundai Motors India has introduced an automatic transmission variant in its Verna sedan. In the same way, the Chevrolet Captiva also came up in the automatic variant with a four-wheel drive because of huge demand. Cars like the Honda City, Hyundai i20, Mahindra Scorpio Mitsubishi Outlander and many more are available in both manual and automatic transmission in the Indian market. While, a number of cars like the Ford Endeavour and the newly launched Toyota Fortuner are expected to be revised with an automatic transmission in future. These cars in the premium segment are currently selling in the manual transmission variant. An important reason behind brisk sales of automatic transmission is car buyers put emphasize on driving comfort. Moreover, the ‘stop-go-stop’ nature of traffic in metros has forced Indian car buyers to pick up the auto transmissions. Therefore, car buyers do not mind pitching a bit more for driving comfort, especially when it is spread over EMIs. Another point has been noted that a woman driver opts for high-end features and automatic transmission is one of them. Honda Siel Cars India has revealed that it sells the automatic transmission variants for most of its models like Civic, Accord, City and CRV. In the past, only 5 per cent of the sales belonged to the old model of Honda City with automatic transmission, but now the sales have risen to 14 per cent in the new model of the City with automatic transmission. Moreover, 51 per cent of the Honda Accord sold in India today is with automatic transmission. Luxury car makers like BMW sells all its cars in its automatic transmission. This German car maker has found out that the buyers from the creamy layer prefer only the automatic transmission variant as they believe that automatic transmission reduces the risk of wear and tear of the car in the long run even if the cars are drove by chauffeurs. It’s a celebration time for Hyundai as the company is receiving awe-inspiring response from Indian as well as international car markets. Hyundai’s scrupulously designed and engineered cars is getting applauds and honours worldwide with various awards. Taking about its performance in Indian, Hyundai i10 has received an overwhelming response with its advanced and fuel efficient kappa engine. The i10 saw a great success bagging awesome sales volume as well as prestigious awards like “Car of the Year” for 2008. It’s also acclaimed by many auto magazine and media like CNBC TV 18, Business Motoring, Overdrive, and NDTV Profit with a variety of awards. Hyundai’s models like the Santro and the Verna have also won appreciations and awards reflecting the brand value and significance in the Indian market. Its latest addition in i-series the model i20 is credited as the first completely built car that is being exported to foreign markets. Recently, Hyundai has received 'Manufacturer of the Year’ award in the UTVi Autocar Awards 2009. The same success story is repeated in the global market where the luxury sedan Hyundai Genesis has recently bagged the 'Canadian Car of the Year 2009' award at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto organised by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The same car has even been crowned with the title of '2009 North American Car of the Year' earlier this year. Genesis with its excellent design, styling cues, and ground breaking technologies has defeated a host of high-end luxury cars including the Audi A3, Acura TL, and the Infiniti G37X. All these awards are a testimony to Hyundai's capabilities and expertise of producing award winning vehicles. Labels: Hyundai-cars, Hyundai-i10, Indian-car-market

Hyundai’s ‘Sunshine Car’ Santro which experienced slow sales for sometime is now slowly gearing up to capture the car market again. The car witnessed a slow ride after the launch of its own sibling ‘Hyundai i10’ which has grasped the market with its performance, style, and reliability. Though the car is outshined by Hyundai i10 for some duration, it received very good sales last year with overall sales number of 2.3 Lakh units. The company is also expecting same sales figure this year. Interestingly, in December when ‘i10’ was available with discount scheme, Santro too reported impressive sales. Hyundai car dealers revealed that though the ‘i10’ is more in demand due to its stylish look and superior Kappa engine, the Santro is also liked by many customers because of its spacious interior and better fuel efficiency. Santro occupied number one position for being most dependable and reliable compact car in the Vehicle Dependability Study conducted by J.D. Power Asia Pacific in 2008 which also reflects its prominence in the market. India’s family car Santro is also available in CNG and LPG versions which add a reason for its popularity among buyers. Sales figure of 7,500-8,000 units a month in 2008 against about 10,000 units of the i10 also supports the fact that Santro is still alive in the mind of car buyers’ despite the presence of modern and technologically advanced new cars. Recently, there was an auto expo held in Paris. It was a big auto show but unfortunately Indian companies were not present there. Despite of their absence in the Paris Motor Show, India was still shinning in the event. You know why? The fact remains that this motor show was accentuated with Indian roots. Yes, we simply mean that three global debuts at the event would be exclusively manufactured in India for the global market. The three car models are Hyundai i10, Suzuki’s Alto, and Nissan Pixo. Suzuki Alto and Nissan Pixo are different names of the same car, the proposed Maruti Suzuki A-Star. In Europe the car has made its debut and is expected to roll out on Indian roads by November 2008. Hyundai i20 from the hatchback segment is the extension of Hyundai i-series cars that the company is manufacturing to carve a niche on the global platform. The entry of these cars played a vital role in strengthening the confidence and faith of global car manufacturers in Indian designing, engineering, and manufacturing. Global players were actually amazed to see the wonders driven from India. Labels: Auto-Expo, Hyundai-i10, Maruti-Suzuki-A-Star, Nissan Pixo, Suzuki’s Alto

Hyundai Motor registers a strong sales growth of about 68% in the month of September 2008. The cumulative sales showcase an increment of 23.9% in domestic car sales and about 151.5% in total exports as compared to September 2007. It’s incredible to believe that Hyundai’s 10th Anniversary celebration has bang the domestic sales but that’s the fact. In terms of export the company feels that this is the highest export growth ever witnessed in the industry. All Hyundai i10 owners will be glad to know the company pays the entire credit of high export to the lovely little car you drive. Yes, Hyundai i10 believes to reap tasty fruits for the company. This small car has been magical both in the Indian car market as well as the global industry. Driven by the success of Hyundai i10, the company decided to up the production by adding a third shift in the plant situated in Chennai. Since the first launch of this car in 2007, the car has shown a high growth scale even during the negative market scenario. The decision is aimed at making India a global manufacturing hub for small cars. Beginning with Hyundai i10, the company wants to design and produce many more small and compact cars in India for the Indian market. The introduction of new shift is targeted to meet the increasing domestic as well as export demand of the i10. To add more numbers globally, the company also plans to increase the number of dealers in the country and hold a higher market share. Is this the beginning of a new mission in India? Or just a hype in the plant capacity? Labels: Compact-Cars, Hyundai-i10, Small-Cars

Hyundai Motor Company, a leading car manufacturer in India, is planning to source a small and tiny car from India. This tiny car is expected to drive to United States. Hyundai promises to source a car that is sized between the Smart ForTwo and the Honda Fit and the speculations are in the air that the targeted car is Hyundai i10. The Hyundai i10 is performing well in the Indian car market with the excellent combination of better fuel economy, excellent features, high performance and good road stability. If we come to the size of i10, then it obviously falls between the size range of Smart Car and Honda Fit. The actual size of Hyundai i10 is about 140 inches that is about 21 inches shorter than the Fit and 34 inches longer than the Smart. So, the possibilities of driving out i10 from India to US are high. The car will obviously be loaded with added features including keyless entry, anti-lock brakes, fog lamps and dual airbag. The performance of i10 in US is questionable. Do you think that the car will deliver the same performance there as well? Labels: Airbags, Car-Production, Hyundai-i10
