New Hyundai VernaHyundai has finally unveiled its Verna, which is being touted as the successor to its Accent entry sedan, at the Beijing Auto Show. The Hyundai Verna is due for a facelift for quite sometime now and it will make its grand entrance in 2010-11. The new generation Verna will feature a Gamma gasoline engine with multiport fuel injection.

Hyundai has developed this car specifically for the Chinese market. And it is likely to go on sale at the end of this year. Spokesman Oles Gadacz has revealed that the US market will get a modified version of this car, but he declines to give an idea about the timeline for the launch. But it is almost certain that the subcompact car will be redesigned for the 2011 or 2012 model year.

Hyundai has stressed on three important things while designing the Verna: power, performance and fuel efficiency. Powering the new Hyundai Verna would be the new generation Gamma gasoline engine, featuring multiport fuel injection. In China, the Verna will be launched in 1.6 litre and 1.4 litre petrol engine variants. While the 1.4 litre gamma, available with a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic, pumps up 106 Bhp and 135 Nm of torque, the 1.6 litre petrol engine, paired with a smooth-shifting four-speed automatic transmission, produces a maximum power of 121 Bhp and 155Nm of torque.

New Hyundai VernaHyundai Verna is built on a new low-floor platform and sloping roofline, both of which enhance its aerodynamics and fuel economy. Hyundai has made use of ultra high-tensile steel which enhances the stiffness in handling and better crash protection of the car.

Verna has got a longer wheelbase (101.2-inch) and a low roofline which give the car a very stylish look, without compromising on the cabin space. The boot of the car has a capacity of 454L can easily store as many as four golf bags along with three small tote bags. So Hyundai scores another point here.

Hyundai
has not revealed any information regarding diesel engine Verna. But as we know Hyundai, we can expect a common rail diesel engine to be featured in the new Verna.

The subcompact will be sold as Verna across the globe, except the US, where it will be known as the Hyundai Accent.

New Hyundai VernaThe new Verna will be manufactured at Hyundai’s high-tech Beijing plant from July and will go on sale in the second half of this year. The new car will be launched first in the Chinese market, and will gradually be introduced in other markets. The new Verna will hit the Indian roads later this year and will be competing with sedans like Fiat Linea and Honda City.

Verna may sport a price tag of Rs 8-10 Lakh, which looks like a good buy for a car that looks big.

Volkswagen Polo SedanThe Polo has been very successful in India. Volkswagen now plans to come up with a sedan version of this hatchback. Looks like the new car will be born to win; to compete with the likes of Swift Dzire, Hyundai Verna & Fiat Linea. The Polo already has a sedan version called the Volkswagen Polo Classic in other countries. But in India, the car maker will be naming the car "Vento".

In Italian and Portuguese, Vento means wind. It follows the VW tradition; the tradition of being named after prominent winds. We hope Indians accept the sedan just like the Polo hatchback. The German car maker sees India as one of the most important markets for the Vento. It looks at selling 25,000 units a year once production is in full swing.

The present Polo Classic is produced in Brazil, South Africa and China and Australia gets it from China. The Polo Classic is the first right-hand-drive Chinese-manufactured car to be exported to a developed country. The new Polo sedan will probably carry the same design as the Polo hatchback. It may be something like what Tata has done with Indica/Indigo and Maruti Suzuki has done with Swift/Swift Dzire.

The hatch and sedan may be similar up to the B-pillar. In the front, just the grille and lights may differ a little from the Volkswagen Polo. The Vento’s rear is well integrated with the body. VW engineers knew that the Polo’s rear seat would be insufficient for sedan buyers, and so, the wheelbase has been extended by around 50mm for enhanced legroom.

The roof will not taper down sharply like in the hatchback providing better headroom too. The cushy seats are durable too. It certainly looks like the Honda City has been the Vento’s benchmark as far as durability and comfort are concerned. Boot space may be around 500 litres with the option of having a split seat.

Equipment levels will be higher than in the Polo and the high-end version could get extra features from the Volkswagen Jetta. VW is believed to be taking great care as far as safety is concerned. The Vento will include a high-quality, torsionally-rigid body shell, an advanced chassis design and standard features like five three-point seat belts, airbags, and ABS anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-pressure distribution.

Initially the Vento will have two engine options – petrol and diesel. Both engines displace 1.6 litres and deliver 105 bhp. However, the diesel has a thumping 250 Nm of torque to the petrol motor’s 155 Nm. Their driving characteristics too are going to differ. Like in the Jetta, the Vento’s petrol engine a naturally aspirated unit but more advanced. While the Jetta’s 1.6 motor had two valves per cylinder driven off a single cam, the Vento has a four-valve head and double overhead camshafts. The Indian Vento may carry the same engine.

The 1.6 common-rail diesel comes from the same engine family as the 1.2 turbo-diesel that powers the Polo and the bigger 2-litre diesel under the hood of the Jetta. Carrying this 105 bhp engine, the Vento won’t be more than a 100kg heavier than the Polo. The power-to-weight ratio is going to be great. The petrol Vento may not equal the Honda City in pace. The diesel Vento, however, should be a close match for the 110 bhp Hyundai Verna diesel.

Both engines are sure going to give great fuel economy and drivability. VW plans to price the Vento between Rs 7-9 lakh. The car is believed to go on sale this July.

Kia CeratoIn the past, we have heard some rumours regarding the entry of Kia Cerato in the Indian car market. But here is the latest one. According to a post by Techneclave, three test mules of not-so-well disguised Kia Cerato have been spotted doing their rounds on the roads of Kolkata. Kia, which is a low-cost sister concern of Hyundai, is planning to make its foray in the Indian market.

So long, Hyundai has neither confirmed nor denied these rumours. But the latest appearances of these Kia cars prompt us to believe that these rumours might just carry some weight of credibility.

Kia shares a number of its key components with Hyundai, including the engines. And so it is likely that the Kia Cerato will be positioned just above the Hyundai Verna, in the space that was once occupied by Hyundai Elantra, which has now been discontinued. Though Hyundai is doing wonderfully in the hatchback segment, it is yet to make an impression in the above Rs 10 lakh segment. So, Hyundai might be pinning its hopes on the Kia Cerato to enter the above-mentioned segment.

Supposedly, the Kia Cerato would be competing with sedans like the Fiat Linea, Honda City and Chevrolet Cruze.

The Kia Cerato would likely enter the Indian zone in both petrol and diesel engine offerings, as it is already doing its global rounds with the range of petrol and diesel engine offerings. And as Hyundai is already an established and trusted name among the Indian customers, it would rather offer the Cerato with a Hyundai badge than taking a chance of introducing something new to the Indian cutomers. Keep watching this space for we will be back soon with more info and news on this. Kia Cerato rear end

Car demand goes upEven with carmakers increasing car prices and the new emission norms kicking in, it is surprising that demands for car are shooting up. Yes, believe it or not, but it is the truth. Demands for cars is far outstretching the production capacity and some popular car models, including Maruti Suzuki's Swift and Swift Dzire, Indigo Manza, Chevrolet Beat and Cruze, Volkswagen Polo and the diesel variants of Hyundai i20 and Verna, now have waiting periods that range anywhere from a fortnight to nearly four months.

Also, these are the models which are not running any discounts. While the petrol variant Swift has a waiting period of one month, the diesel variant of the same would make you wait for almost two-and-a-half months or more. Swift Dzire (both models) tops them both with a waiting period that stretches up to four months! Apparently, this is happening because Maruti, in order to cater to the export needs, had to accommodate the A-Star production at its Manesar plant. “We are bottlenecking capacity by realigning product mix at both the plants,” Mayank Pareek, executive officer (sales and marketing) had earlier said.

The company has shifted the production of its Swift petrol model to Gurgaon and has produced about 40,000 units per year at Manesar plant. Export activities of Maruti grew by 126.7 per cent between April 2009 and this February, at 131,982 units, with A-Star contributing for most of it. Earlier Maruti Suzuki had said that Manesar production capacity would be enhanced by up to 250,000 units by 2012, at an investment of Rs 1,700 crore.

The situation is pretty much same with Volkswagen Polo too. Neeraj Garg, member of the board and director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India, said: “Polo is having a waiting period of about three-four months currently. We are ramping up the production of it at Chakan (near Pune) and will try to bring down the waiting period. We have confirmed bookings of 5,000 units of the Polo, with 500 units already delivered.” Polo was launched in the second week of March and is currently distributed through a network of 43 dealers across India.

But there is just no escaping the waiting period, even if you decide to run to Hyundai. Hyundai Verna has a waiting period of three to four weeks and the latest hit from Hyundai, the i20, will make you wait for about three to four months.

“Demand for the i20 is three to four times higher than what we anticipated. As a result, the company had ramped up production and is now working in three shifts across its two plants to roll out 4,500 units of i20 a month,” said Arvind Saxena, senior vice president, Hyundai Motor India.

Chevrolet has been experiencing a lot of success with its Beat, Cruze and Spark Now, Beat and Cruze have a waiting period of two-month and one-month respectively.

Beat has been in great demand and we are operating in two shifts to roll out 4,000 to 4,500 units a month. This, along with Spark and other models, will help the company to grow in excess of 100 per cent in March, vis-à-vis 5,001 units sold in 2009,” said Ankush Arora, vice president (sales and marketing), General Motors India.

So, if you decide to buy one of these models, your waiting skills might just come handy.

New 2010 Hyundai Verna
Hyundai has plans of launching its facelifted Verna in India. The new Verna has already has made its appearance in the Korean car market. And now the company is launching it in the country with much expectation.

Guessing on what would have made Hyundai think on these lines of launching a fresh looking Verna, we can get an answer. Even though not the only reason, the launch of the revamped Maruti SX4 and Ford Fiesta could be a motivating factor behind the company’s decision of launching the facelifted Verna in India.

The company launched its much loved sedan, Verna back in 2005. Since then the car has not received any major change in looks. The growing competition in the auto industry might have made the company think about bringing in the new looking Verna to India.

We are not sure as to what exactly would be the changes that the car would receive. And whether it will be able to conquer the hearts of the Indian car lovers as its predecessor did. We are also not well aware of the launching date of this new Verna and what possibly would be the price that should be spend to owe one. Anyways, waiting eagerly.

2010 Hyundai Sonata/i40
The Indian market can now expect two new models from Hyundai. The new facelifted Hyundai Verna and the all-new Sonata will be launched in India, but we don’t know why.

But it is written for those curious customers who would love to know more about these possible newbie’s that will make its entry into the Indian market without much delay.

The sixth generation Hyundai Sonata has already been launched in South Korea. It is not the same Hyundai Sonata which we see in the Indian roads. Instead, it is a brand new car that is named as Sonata in the Korean market. And the reason for this is that Sonata is the most popular sedan of Korea.

When the car gets launched in India there is also a possibility that it will be named as i40 in the Indian markets, as there is already a sonata available in the Indian market. Hyundai is also expected to launch the Sonata in the European markets with the name i40. The car uses the new ‘fluidic sculpture’ design.

It has very sophisticated and dynamic designing of the car looks very similar to that of a Mercedes CLS. The all-new Sonata is powered by a 2.0 Theta ll MPi engine and has a six speed automatic transmission. The car is also equipped with the most modern safety features.

Hyundai has also plans to launch its Verna. The new 2011 Hyundai Verna has a similar body and roof lines to the existing Verna. The new Verna will also have a ‘fluidic sculpture’ design philosophy. There will be both petrol and diesel engines. And it is expected to be available in 1.6ltr gasoline engine with equally advanced hybrid powertrain. The latest Verna will also have new turn indicators embedded ORVMS and set of alloy wheels.

It is not known when both these models will enter the Indian car market, but hopefully within the next two years. Now the question is which model will be readied to fill in the gap of Hyundai Getz that will be phased out completely by 2011.

The Santa Fe luxury SUV that is scheduled to be launched in early next year cannot anyway be substituted for this A2 compact car. Is it the sub-Santro 800cc city car that is expected to be launched which will be replacing the Getz?

Alright, leaving room for the guessing, we can still wait for the real happening.

New Hyundai Verna Cars in India

Remember September 2006 when Hyundai launched the Verna with elegant styling, comfortable interiors, time-tested quality, and high degree of reliability. Since then, the car has stamped its authority in the Indian car market. Now with the addition of new variants into Verna’s profile, the company expresses its euphoria of creating one of the highly successful and credible cars in the mid-size sedan segment.

The new Verna with its contemporary European looks wears new exterior and interior to paint a spectacular picture in the minds of Indian car buyers. It possesses an aerodynamic styling and its design highlights are a stylish new radiator grille, new chrome insert in waistline moulding, electrically adjustable ORVM (Outer Rear View Mirror), rear chrome garnish, and a new full wheel cover for extra appeal.

In the interiors, the car is spacious and uses improved designs, high-quality fabrics, and sophisticated features. The new variants boast of the upgraded audio console that bears a high fidelity 2 DIN Music System with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. Safety has never taken a back seat in Hyundai's car and so even the new Verna comes loaded with a host of safety features like the antilock brakes for enhanced safety and security.

The visual appeal of the car may not impressive all but its peppy and powerful engine holds the supremacy and capability to attract car buyers. It is available in a choice of same petrol and diesel engines that made the old Verna carved its own niche in the Indian market. The 1.6-litre petrol engine with variable valve timing technology is quick and powerful but the 1.5-litre diesel using a variable geometry turbocharger is a sure shot winner. The most exciting introduction is the association of automatic transmission with the top-end diesel variant.

Maintaining the same engine and mechanicals, the new variants of Verna comes with a host of improved and luxurious embellishments carrying the price range of Rs 6.3 Lakh to Rs 8.6 Lakh.

Holding the promise to fulfil customer’s delight and satisfaction, Hyundai again raises the competitive bar for style, performance, and driving dynamics with the launch of new Hyundai Verna.
