The i10 has taken hold of Santro’s position as the flagship model from Hyundai stable. Of late, the average sales of the Hyundai i10 have touched 12,000 units a month, against about 7,000 for the Santro. The i10 was launched by Hyundai two years back to counter Maruti Suzuki’s growing popularity. The sales figures of the Santro and i10 together contribute a sizeable chunk of the compact car segment. Since its launch two years back, the i10 has managed to average domestic sales of around 12,000 a month, from 6,500 units; while sales of the Santro have fallen from 12,000 units in 2000, to the current 7,000 units a month. Some of the reasons for the i10 craze are contemporary styling, competitive pricing and superior technology. With the urban consumer wanting contemporary and technologically superior cars, the Santro, in recent months, has seen a sizeable chunk of its sales going to tier ii markets. Sources also say that the company is pushing the i10 in urban markets and Santro to the semi-urban and rural market. Currently, the price of the Santro ranges from Rs 3.2 Lakh to Rs 3.6 Lakh and i10 retails at Rs 3.35 Lakh to Rs 5 Lakh. Besides, the i10, positioned as a ‘launched in India car’ tagline, has managed to create a stir even in export markets. A word has been out that the Korean major may launch the Santro with a smaller size engine option at a lower price point to compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Alto. A regular reader, who updates himself on everything related to cars, will find it a little awkward to find him reading about electric cars on and on and on. In fact he should also be realizing that the trends for more electric and eco-friendly cars are just beginning to set in. Companies, one after the other, are launching or announcing the launch of new electric cars. The new one in the legion is none other than the Korean carmaker, Hyundai. The company after much trials and experiments is all ready to showcase a green car in the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show that will be held in September. The company has already announced its plans to unveil its new electric car, but nothing more about the specifications or features of the car is available. But yes, one thing has been made clear by the company is that it would be their successful small car model Hyundai i10 that would go green. Hyundai i10 will not be the only model that will have a green heart but the i20 is also expected to follow its sibling in this line very soon. These models might take a year or two, or even more, before it will be available for the customers, but the mere thought that it has taken an initiative will bring in a sigh of relief for the company, as it reminds itself that it is on its way to be the fourth largest green carmaker. Hyundai also has plans to launch three cars, an electric vehicle, a fuel cell, and a hybrid version, but for all of this the company is asking for a time period of three years. So let’s hope by 2012, it will be an eco-friendly environment for Hyundai. But curiosity grows on to know when Hyundai cars will paint India green. Labels: Eco-Friendly-Car, Hyundai, Hyundai i10

Hyundai rejoices the success of i10 as this small and global car achieves fastest sales of three lakh. Though in the recent times Maruti Suzuki Swift and Chevrolet Spark has also reached the three lakh mark but the i10 beats its competitors in terms of time required to reach this significant mark. Hyundai i10 was launched on October 31, 2007 and went global in December 2007. And have experienced three lakh sales in even less than two years. This marks a new milestone in the successful history of Hyundai in India. You would be glad to know that out of the total three lakh cars over 1.44 lakh cars have been sold in the Indian car market and around 1.56 Lakh units were exported across Latin America, Middle East, European Union, and South East Asia. And the maximum sales it rejoiced in Germany. Hyundai has always focused on providing the best of design and technology along with best value for money. And the success of i10 is nothing strange because it has all the winning attributes that reflect the tradition of Hyundai cars. The car is innovatively designed, inspiringly luxurious, intelligently driven, and intuitively safe. And a series of awards the Hyundai i10 had received in the year 2008 along with the ‘Indian Car of the Year’ award is a sure sign of its credibility. Hyundai has successfully ended his i10 drive from Delhi to Paris. The drive that concluded in Paris highlighted the outstanding performance and supremacy of the Kappa engine. It has proved that the innovative engine technology is better in terms of reliability and fuel efficiency. It is hard to believe that the drive had traverse 10,000 km through 10 different countries. The i10 drive started on September 10, 2008 from the national capital of India and ended in Paris on September 29, 2008. This means in just a span of few days, Olympic Gold Medalist Abhinav Bindra drove the car to Paris without any single technical glitch on the entire run. The best part of the drive is that the i10 Kappa, now displayed in the Hyundai pavilion at the ongoing Paris Motor Show, has received cheers, appreciations, and accolades. By organizing such kind of event, Hyundai has eventually rejoiced two successes together. One, the company gained success in branding and another it proved the reliability of Hyundai i10, building to a stronger customer base. Labels: Hyundai cars, Hyundai i10, i10 Kappa

We all know that the soon to be launched Maruti Suzuki A-Star is known by three different badges across the global car industry. It's even more exciting to know that not only the car wears different badges but also different faces. Different faces does not imply to looks and appeal of the car but the different levels of competition. It is believed that the Nissan Pixo and Suzuki Alto, names for A-Star in the international market, will compete with Toyota Aygo in the global market and Indian model will have a tough competition with Hyundai i10, Fiat Palio and Tata Indica Vista. All the three badges of A-Star will have a common platform in terms of architecture but European cars will be slight different from the Indian model. This difference is in response to different weather and road conditions in different countries. Indian roads are completely different from those in Europe and other international countries. The new car is expected to roll out in the domestic market during the festive season and in the international market by next year. Hyundai’s i10 is raving with its popularity and now it is the turn of i20 to take up the crown. The premium hatchback ‘i20’ will be soon seen on the Indian roads and the interesting part is it will be manufactured solely in India. There were also rumors about Getz and Santro being phased out but was later clarified denying the information. The price of the upcoming model is not yet revealed but it will be little more than Getz and will be competing with Skoda Fabia and Ford Fusion. Looks like Hyundai is on the verge of starting series of cars for India. The i10 made its debut and turned into a great success and will be soon followed by i20. In future we can expect i30 with more advanced and attractive features. Labels: Hyundai i10, Hyundai-cars, Santro Xing

Is India still stuck in old world? The cars sold in India still carry the age old designs. Interestingly, they are still selling in large numbers despite being put in history books in mature western countries. Look at the line up of cars, sold as premium cars in India like Hyundai Accent, Octavia, Ford Ikon and Mitsubishi Lancer. Moreover, Indians are forced to pay fancy sums for these outdated cars. The only new models which can be called contemporary are Hyundai i10, Volkswagen Passat, Maruti A-Star and Honda CR-V. Car manufacturers are taking marketing old cars as new in this country. Will the car buyer be forced to be stuck in time wrap? Labels: Car-Designs, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai i10, Maruti, Mitsubishi Lancer
