Indian car industry has assumed great importance globally after the Tata Nano was unveiled at the 9th Auto Expo and recently at the Geneva Motor Show. Many global car manufacturers, who have announced the launch of their cars in India in the near future, are not taking any chances and are already announcing the exact year of launch and if it will be sedan, hatchback or SUV.

Volkswagen, BMW, Audi and Ford have already joined the bandwagon of Indian cars and are making waves. Volvo luxury cars in India are the latest entrants. Volvo is now in queue to capture the SUV segment in India and has announced that it will release its much awaited XC60 SUV next year. Mercedes-Benz wants to bring more of its diesel engine cars to India.

Car manufacturers, who had nurtured the habit of making announcements of car launches without any commitments to implement them, are now realizing the potential of the Indian automobile industry and are working hard to materialize their promises.

Patience, the saying goes, is a high merit. The Indian car market has come a long way. We’ve seen so many brands - brands rise, brands fall, brands struggle and die and then even more brands being born. Now India is one of the fastest growing playgrounds of Global automakers. Hyundai is one of the most seriously working Korean automakers in India. As a profound effect Hyundai Capital Company, a sister concern of Hyundai Motors, is keen to enter the Indian car financing market.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Capital Company is studying the Indian market very closely. Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) started production in India in 1996. The company recently launched its compact car – the i10, which is being manufactured at its Chennai plant. i10 is the first Hyundai compact car made in India with 94 percent Indianization. The company also has plans to manufacture 2.2 lakh units of i10, out of which 1.2 lakh units will be sold in the domestic market. The rest would be exported to Latin America, Africa, and Italy.

However, there are certain policy guidelines in the country that put hindrances to the Korean company tapping the capital market in Kolkata. But the current scenario of Hyundai Motor India Ltd says India is definitely a market feast for Hyundai.

Speculations have it that a smaller diesel engine variant of the Suzuki SX4 is coming to Indian shores to be sold alongside the Japanese automaker's current 1.9 liter SX4 hit. Suzuki has definitely recognized that more has to be done to expand its SX4 model and introducing a diesel variant is the ticket.

According to sources, the new diesel variant will sport a Peugeot-sourced 87 bhp 1.6-litre engine. In addition to the modified 1.6-litre engine the vehicle will be linked to a five-speed manual gearbox. This is likely to power the SX4 1.6 DDiS with 0-62 mph in 12.2 sec and a top speed of 109 mph. Thus, it's imperative that Suzuki find a way to differentiate the two variants while maintaining the SX4's appeal. The new variant will be a two-wheel drive. However, the features provided are similar to those in the 1.6-litre petrol SX4.

The standard features will be a manual air-conditioning, heated door mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, front fog lights, and wheel-arch extensions. The key to success of this variant will definitely be its price tag. Wait and watch is what I say!
