Car rallies have been the possession of few people in India. It has remained a classic sport of the rich. After Narain Karthikeyan becomes India’s first formula 1 driver and millionaire businessman Vijay Mallya formed the Force India team with buyout of the Dutch Formula 1 team Spyker, Indians are more associated with the car racing sport.
Now motorsports is attracting more people. Not only as contestants, but also as teams to promote brands and sell the F1 merchandise. Bangalore based Sidvin Core-Tech has launched the Team Sidvin India. The team made its debut at the Greece Acropolis Rally and was headed by driver VK Naren Kumar. He finished 10th position at the rally. Now the company has set its eyes on World Rally Championship (WRC). The Indian company Saatchi & Saatchi is assisting to create media products for the company to promote the brand.

I’m an avid Formula One fan and spend my days watching car racing. When my eyes fell on news stating “red letter day in the history of Indian motorsport”, I felt great! My hearty wishes are with Team Force India and owner Vijay Mallya. He unveiled VJM01, which is expected to have its first run during the next test session to be held in Barcelona.
India’s entry to the world of motorsports is no doubt delayed, but better late than never. Vijay Mallya already rules Indian skies with Kingfisher. A jovial entrepreneur like him is definite to bring success to this unexplored area in India.

It seems India is making strides in the auto industry and is going to set records globally. I was watching TV with my 8-year-old son after coming home from work. My son suddenly started talking about Mallya and asked me who he is. I was really surprised to hear the name of Mallya from an eight-year-old.
I asked him why he wanted to know and he told me that his school friends were talking about Mallya’s race car built in India and he wanted to know what it was all about. I explained about the
F1 car that Mallya was developing under the name of
Force India. Then, I started switching channels remembering that the unveiling was supposed to happen sometime that day or next. My son and I watched Mallya unveil a sleek, stylish, and very attractive looking race car – the first in India.
First the world’s cheapest car and now this. India seems to be coming around!

The Formula One living legend, Michael Schumacher, is coming to India in February as part of a campaign to create public awareness on drunken driving. This “Don’t Drink and Drive” was last held in Germany, where it saw grand success with the drinking and driving accident numbers reducing drastically. Schumacher has been associated with several road safety campaigns earlier and is currently acting as the global social responsibility ambassador for 2008 for beverage major Bacardi-Martini Limited.
It is believed that he never drives a car when he consumes liquor. Young men in India should take a cue from this racing master. I got into a fatal accident a couple of years back and lost movement in both my legs. It is getting better now with constant physiotherapy. The reason was a young student driving drunk in his car with his friends.
Drunken driving has resulted in several deaths. Inspite of warnings by the police and various NGO institutes, it seems to have had little impact on the number/rate of accidents. According to statistics, over a million people die, or are seriously injured, or are rendered permanently disabled in India every year.
Be aware. Get educated. It may not be only your life that you take, but someone else’s life as well.

Great news for Formula1 fans! A new challenger from Force India F1, owned by Vijay Mallya, will be showcased in Mumbai. It will make its debut in Barcelona next month, Feb 2008. That’s a few weeks from the season’s first grand prix. The car will start with a three-day test.
Force India F1 is a Formula One motor racing team formed in October 2007. This team is the result of the agreement signed between Vijay Mallya and Michel Mol who invested close to Rs. 5 Billion and bought the Spyker F1 team.
The Work-In-Progress Challenger was released at Birmingham and even though it looks like the same old Spyker, there are noticeable differences like an enhanced gear box. The final track model will be worth following.
I wish they make a serious bid for the championship this time rejoicing their victory from the podium, making India proud.
