The ongoing Detroit Auto Show has been graced by many new cars and concepts.

The big story at this year's Detroit show is undoubtedly the new Ford Focus which will hit showrooms next year. The 2010 Fiesta has been a crowd puller too. Ford also showcased the Mustang, strong crossovers, trucks and a fine range of Lincolns.

General Motors launched the Cadillacs and the Chevrolet Aveo.

The Chrysler Group stage was cold as its cars will not come for more than a year and it doesn't want to give his rivals any clues. It displayed the Lancia Delta concept.

Apart from the Detroit Three car companies, it seemed like other car makers are busy exhibiting their electric or hybrid cars, which are the latest trend in the automotive world. Audi showed the scaled-down e-Tron with mid-engined, 2.0-litre turbo petrol power.

BMW displayed the electric 1-Series. Volkswagen showed the coupe concept which is no more than the next Jetta with the back doors sealed up, but its hybrid powertrain is for real. Honda launched the CR-Z hybrid sports coupe.

Others interesting car displays are the Nissan Leaf, Renault Fluence ZE, Tesla Model S and all the other high-profile pioneering electric sedans 'for the masses'.

Ford Motor Company is planning to offer a new kind of rear seat belts. These new rear seat belts do the work of seats belts as well as of airbags. Ford Motors said that it will start making use of these seat belts on the redesigned 2011 Explorer SUV.

These new seat belts contain an inflatable bag inside the shoulder strap and a small cylinder of cold compressed gas beneath the seat that is dispensed through the buckle when a crash is detected. The belts inflate less explosively than a traditional air bag and are designed to spread the force of a crash over an area of the body five times as large as regular seat belts do.

Ford is the first automaker to offer these inflatable rear seat belts, a technology aimed at reducing injuries to children and elderly passengers in a crash. Ford is trying to use this technology as a way to attract new customers, particularly at a time when many vehicles come with six or more air bags and myriad other safety features.

Ford feels that children and older people commonly sit in the back seat and are more susceptible to being injured in a crash, particularly in the head, chest or neck, than other occupants of a vehicle. Ford also offers radar-enabled adaptive cruise control and amenities called MyKey, which allows parents to impose certain limitations on teenage drivers, and Sync, a system that permits hands-free interaction with mobile phones and the car’s audio system.

Ford first demonstrated the concept of inflatable belts in 2001. Another automaker, Toyota, is planning to offer a similar feature next year in the Lexus LFA.

Ford Motor Company has developed a new technology which helps them to identify unwanted sounds and eliminate them during the development of automobiles. This new technology will ensure that all new cars from Ford Motors stable have the quietest interior cabins.

The new 'Noise Vision' technology is a part of Ford’s drive to lead the industry with top quality cars and customer satisfaction.

The key to world-class interior quietness is to pinpoint the source and location of every unwanted sound, no matter how subtle it is. The 'Noise Vision' technology of Ford is able to identify the source of all car noise and the result is evident in the new 2010 Taurus, the Fusion, the Flex and the F-150 as these cars can boast of the quietest interiors in their class.

The 'Noise Vision' is a small sphere that is placed inside the cabin of the car. It is equipped with more than thirty highly sensitive microphones and twelve special cameras. The software in the Noise Vision reads data and creates a computerized image showing interior noise "hot spots," including wind noise, a squeak or rattle, or unwanted feedback from the engine or the road.

Ford began using the Noise Vision technology, known as the Noise Source Identification Tool, to develop new vehicles for the 2010 model year. The high-tech tool's thermal imaging is similar to the kind used for military work and medical research.

In the past, Ford engineers worked long and hard to identify unwanted rattles, squeaks or knocks. Spotting these unwanted sounds and eliminating them often took days or weeks. The Noise Source Identification Tool streamlines the process to hours and it's saving money, too. The technology has allowed Ford engineers to reduce 200 hours of wind tunnel testing time a year, saving more than $300,000 in testing costs.

Today, Ford's initial vehicle quality is equal to Toyota and Honda. The interior silence of Ford cars rivals many luxury brands. In fact, Ford has the fewest car noise issues of any full-line car makers, according to the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study. Ford cars also have higher interior quietness customer satisfaction scores than their Asian counterparts, according to the RDA Group's Global Quality Research System.

Ford India has introduced a new philosophy of car service with the establishment of its first ‘Quick Service Station’. This is an innovative process designed for car servicing at Harpreet Ford in Gurgaon.

This unique service facility gives you an opportunity to get a car serviced in just one hour. Now, you won’t have to wait for another day to get the delivery of a car after you give it for servicing. This helps save a lot of time for both the customers and the company.

This is made possible with an ingenious idea that is implied to set up the service centre. The service centre is planned in such a way that all the technician’s requirements such as parts, oil, air, and water are available in the bay so as to save time to collect these items from other counters.

You can even clearly visualize your car being serviced in a clean and conducive environment while you are waiting at the reception. This means that the bay will be clearly visible from the customer lounge enabling the customers to actually see the process of servicing.

The 'Quick Service' is quite similar to the Ford's current Quality Care service which is a scheduled servicing facility. Presently, the Quick Service facility is available across over 23 dealerships in Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore, and New Delhi.

The present era of car industry requires technologies that can save every drop of fuel. Car owners look for highly fuel-efficient cars and advancements that can help them save fuel to the maximum.

Seeing the demand of fuel-efficient cars, Ford has introduced a new technology that contributes to improve vehicles mileage. It comprises an ideal gear shift indicator that works in a relatively easy fashion in association with the in-built sensors. The sensors in the gearshift detect the road gradient, car load, and the way car is being driven. Based on these detections, the gear shift indicator sends signal to the driver to inform about the ideal gear switch moment.

This indicator not only helps to cut fuel costs but also reduces carbon dioxide emissions. Offering enhanced mileage, the Ford system continuously monitors the car to optimize gear change activity. Studies and researches have revealed that swift and optimum gear movement greatly reduces fuel consumption, and the Ford’s new system works in response to the uncovered automotive secret.

Though this new system has not yet travelled to India. But, it would be fitted in Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, Mondeo ECOnetic, Ford Transit and Transit Connect TDCi diesel models. In India, it may make its debut in near future.

The global recession that has struck our world is now peaking. The tide of financial downfall in the U.S. has left no company untouched. Major U.S auto manufacturers that have faced severe financial difficulties include decade old names such as General Motors and Ford.

GM and Ford are at the verge of bankruptcy. Struggling to stay alive, these manufacturers have finally asked for help from their government. How does this affect the Indian auto market?

The heavy loss along with a severe liquidity crunch in the U.S has compelled people to cut upgrades to bigger and better cars. Due to a lack of finance in the market, the number of people buying new cars has almost come to a standstill. With deteriorating car sales, car production has also seen a massive slow down, which means that the demand for auto components is fast dwindling.

Auto players, who use to import car components from the fast growing and cheaper Indian market, have cut down their auto component orders due to the hard hit of recession. Even players like Bajaj Auto, Hyundai Motors, and Tata Motors from India have cut down their component orders.

After a slowdown in August 2008, September proved to be a promising month for the auto industry. Production growth in September 2008 was recorded to be 12.70% with a domestic sales growth of 5.39%. This growth was further swayed away by the strong wind of recession in the month of October. In October, car sales fell down to about 9.05% over October 2007 along with a slowdown in car production that dropped to about 12.32%. Export sales also dipped from various markets, which have taken a stiff beating on the component manufacturers.

Fortunately, the strong and growing Indian economy with its vast working population may have a cushioning effect on the car manufacturers and dealers. However, the auto component manufacturers will hit the hardest during this slow down and the declining sales are likely to continue at least until March 2009.

Fuel-efficient cars are on demand! Yes, with the fuel prices going high, everyone is looking for the fuel-efficient cars. Many car manufacturers are working on to produce cheap and fuel-efficient cars to grab more consumers.

Fuel guzzlers are no more a choice of price sensitive Indian consumers. Seeing the current demand of such cars, the Ford Indian is also on the way to introduce fuel-efficient cars.

Even though a line of fuel-efficient cars are on the cards for the Indian car market that include cars fueled by compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum expected to hit the Indian roads by 2010. Ford cars will certainly be able to make its position in the market.

Currently, Ford’s models for India are Ikon, Fusion and Fiesta cars, as well as the Endeavor. The global economic recession has affected the Ford sales but still the company holds the positive attitude.

Ford will surely face a tough competition from other car manufacturers, who are racing to dominate the lucrative Indian car market. For instance, Japanese car major, Toyota is also working on a new fuel-efficient and then we also have the buzzing model Tata Nano for Indian roads.
