Toyota became the second major Japanese car manufacturer to quit F1. We have been anticipating Toyota's withdrawal from F1 for quite some time but were waiting for the car honcho to declare it officially.

Toyota Motor Corporation has announced its plans to withdraw from the FIA Formula 1 World Championship at the end of the 2009 season because of its 'current severe economic realities'. The latest pullout would be yet another blow to Formula One, which is already bogged down by scandals, disputes and falling number of sponsorships.

Toyota's association with Formula One began in 2002 and it had raced for eight seasons. The Toyota F1 team competed in 141 F1 races and accomplished 13 podium finishes. The team could never manage to win a race during its tenure with F1 despite having an annual budget of around US$300 million. But the Toyota F1 team was fifth in the 2009 Constructors' Championship.

Toyota’s season promised much after long-term driver Jarno Trulli finished third in the opening race of the season in Australia and followed that with another third in Bahrain, after starting race four from pole position. His team-mate Timo Glock also stood on the podium after finishing third in the rain-affected second race of the season in Malaysia. But neither driver would reach the podium again until race 14 when Glock finished second behind Britain's Lewis Hamilton in Singapore, equaling the team's best finish to a race. One week later, in early October, Trulli also came second at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi joined Trulli, who finished the season eighth in the standings, for the final two races of the season after Glock.

Trulli is tipped to join Lotus while Glock is expected to move to Renault later this week but Kobayashi's future is less clear. Germany's Ralf Schumacher, France's Olivier Panis and Britain's Allan McNish have also all driven for Toyota over the years.

Toyota noted that it would actively contribute to further development of motorsports by supporting grassroots races and planning events in which it is easy for people to participate. Now, the world's largest car manufacturer will concentrate on its core business.

We guess it’s all about making hybrids and electric cars now!

Force India gained its second points rating at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza yesterday. Force India’s Adrian Sutil came in the forth place without Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS).

Adrian Sutil finally picked up his first points for the team to strengthen its position in the Constructors' Championship. Sutil’s teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi retired with a driveshaft problem after 22 laps while running sixth.

Rubens Barrichello won the Italian Grand Prix for the third time in his career and his team-mate Jenson Button followed him in a Brawn GP one-two. It was Barrichello’s eleventh career victory, his third in Monza and his second of the season after he won the European Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain. Moreover, this was the fourth one-two finish of the season for Brawn and kept both Brawn drivers well ahead in the Driver’s Championship.

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen drove past Adrian Sutil to finish at the third place while Lewis Hamilton spun out of third place on the final lap. The British driver started from pole position, but on a double pit stop strategy. His car was lighter on fuel and had to stop twice.

Button leads the series with 80 points, Barrichello is second with 66 and Vettel is third with 54, while Webber is fourth with 51.5 points.

At the halfway point of the race, after Lap 26, Barrichello led by 2.1 on Button, with Hamilton in third at 13.9 from Barrichello. Two laps later, Button made his pit stop in 9.1 seconds and returned to a clear track. Barrichello then made his pit stop after the next lap, and he stopped in 8.6, returning to the track ahead of Button. Hamilton, who had made his first pit stop on Lap 15, retook the lead when Barrichello made his pit stop.

After Lap 32 Hamilton was only 15.8 seconds ahead of Barrichello and would need at least 30 seconds to make his pit stop and come out ahead. In the end, his pit stop on Lap 34 lasted 25.6 seconds and he came out behind the two Brawns.

Monza is the fastest track on the Formula One schedule, with cars hitting 373 km/h down the long straights.

McLaren is all set to introduce green sports car by 2011. It is learnt that the car will be the most environment friendly of its type and will set a new benchmark in the industry. The question arises will the green attitude of the car hinder its performance? The answer is no as the use of cutting edge technologies in the car will considerably improve its performance while ensuring the safety at the same time. The car is said to be positioned against the Ferrari F 450 and the Lamborghini Gallardo.

The new car will carry the design of the famous McLaren F1. But it will have sharper lines and larger dimensions compared to its sibling. Car designer Frank Stephenson will take the responsibility to design the car. He plans to give it a catchy look with edgy lines, a low nose and two huge side air intakes behind the cabin. The car will have a conventional two-seat layout unlike the F1's famous central driving position.

Beside this car, the company is also planning to launch a new range of sportscar by 2010. For the new range of models, it has to bear an additional investment of 250 million pounds for setting up a new McLaren car production facility in the UK. This expansion plan from McLaren which would prove to be a vital step in the development of the car industry will provide an excellent job opportunity for nearly 800 people.

The sensational Aero Show which occurs every year in Bangalore brought something new and different this year. When the Sukhoi, F16, MiG-35, Tejas, and other fighter aircrafts glittered the sky, the ground was stage for a maroon Formula one car. The presence of the car at the aero show was undoubtedly peculiar but the site of the car truly added more excitement to the event.

Inexplicably, it was not the Ferrari or the Toyota F1 cars but the Formula car PM408 built by the Team HAYA from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of People’s Education Society Institute of Technology (PESIT), Bangalore.

Amazingly, for the first time any racing car was showcased at an air show. During the first four day, the car was displayed in one of the exhibition hall and performed only on the last day of the event.

The custom-designed all-aluminium body is crafted to give a smooth and speedy drive along with adjustable pedal assembly and a custom-made shaft drive for maximum power transmission.

It also carries custom-made automatic button shift for fast and efficient transmission and reaches 200 km/h with an acceleration of 0-100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds.

The Team HAYA is set to participate in the upcoming FSAE ITALY 2009 with the car and has taken useful tips from the spectators like Rata Tata as how to improve its performance. Thus the participation of this car in the aero show has benefitted both the event as well as the Team.
