Has India become a decisive factor in Mitsubishi’s business strategy? It does looks like that if you see at the new products planned for India. It seems that the company does not want to rest on its laurels gained in past. The company is already selling Lancer, Cedia, Monetro and Pajero. The company is now eyeing luxury SUV segment by launching Outlander and is also planning to introduce the first international brand electric car in India. The company has re-defined luxury cars in India. It can do the same in future. It is clearly targeting other Japanese car manufacturers Honda and Maruti-Suzuki who have already established themselves in India. Is any one know that how much Ford spent initially to buy luxury car brands-Jaguar and Land Rover? Ford bought these two high end brands in 1989 at a whooping $10 billion. Ford has invested such a big amount in Jaguar and Land Rover but failed to reap profits. Ford suffered a huge loss by selling its luxury brands to Tata for merely $2.3 billion. As far as global players are concerned, they are firmly committed to make their vehicle more appealing and luxurious than their rivals. It is still not known as to why Ford failed to make these brands profitable. Big wigs of world’s auto industry are now thinking of revamping their brands to avoid selling of their brands to any other company after Ford’s failure in Jaguar brands. Indian car industry has assumed great importance globally after the Tata Nano was unveiled at the 9 th Auto Expo and recently at the Geneva Motor Show. Many global car manufacturers, who have announced the launch of their cars in India in the near future, are not taking any chances and are already announcing the exact year of launch and if it will be sedan, hatchback or SUV. Volkswagen, BMW, Audi and Ford have already joined the bandwagon of Indian cars and are making waves. Volvo luxury cars in India are the latest entrants. Volvo is now in queue to capture the SUV segment in India and has announced that it will release its much awaited XC60 SUV next year. Mercedes-Benz wants to bring more of its diesel engine cars to India. Car manufacturers, who had nurtured the habit of making announcements of car launches without any commitments to implement them, are now realizing the potential of the Indian automobile industry and are working hard to materialize their promises. Chevrolet has experienced great success with the Aveo Sedan, Aveo U-VA, Optra Magnum, SR-V, and Tavera. GM has offered cars in all segments in India. Now, with the unveiling of the Captiva SUV at the 2008 Delhi Auto Expo, they have become strong contenders in the SUV market. The Captiva is a compact SUV empowered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that features common-rail direct injection technology delivering 150 bhp. The ergonomically designed interior makes driving in the Captiva a joy. GM will prize the Captiva at around Rs.18 Lakh. The commercial launch of the Captiva is expected to take place in September 2008. I can’t wait to get my hands on this model. However, the Tavera wasn’t all that great, so I am definitely going to go for a test drive before I pull my money out. Labels: Chevrolet, Expansion in Indian auto industry, New launch, SUVs

All efforts to creation of goodwill through corporate social responsibility activities go a long way in marketing and eventually sale of the products, according to a recent study. During the survey nearly 80 percent of Indian’s said that they would go for car makers who create employment opportunities in India and have environment friendly policies. Maruti got loads of praises for its high quality vehicles provided at low cost and its effort towards job creation in India. It was also appreciated for bringing in international brands, in joint venture with Japanese car maker Suzuki, at the same time of their international launch. The automotive sector as a whole was lauded for job creation and employee satisfaction efforts. However the survey revealed that the automobile companies need to do more for environment conservation. Reading the blogs here, it appears that GM, Honda, Toyota, and many others are planning to do just that. When it comes to buying a car, Maruti Baleno is always deemed as underrated four - wheeler until a few years back. In fact, none preferred to buy the car when it was launched in India due to exorbitant price. In a country like India, the automobile company can't set a high price especially when it zeroes in on the middle class Indian families. As an effect of it, the company had to reduce the price. The cut in price has increased the demand for Maruti Baleno, and sales picked up. Recently, the company launched the New Baleno LXI, and hopes to lure the large segment of the Indian consumer. Of course, Maruti is determined not to make the same mistake with the New Baleno LXi. The new Baleno LXi is priced at Rupees 5.60 lakhs. That means, the new Maruti Baleno is competitively priced - around the price of the Hyundai Verna and lesser than the top end Honda City models - hey that's good news for Maruti cars' lovers. Today, all automobile companies have kept their fingers crossed, as what the budget 2007 will have for them. There is clue from an authorized source that the government has decided to reduce 10% custom duty on all Big and imported cars. It's to be seen how Maruti Udyog reformulates its marketing plans after the budge 2007. But as a great fan of Baleno, I wish you all to have a look at the model I possess. Something in its chunky outer-looks appeal to me, I prefer it looks wise to many other modern and branded cars. The seats are the best in class - most comfortable with high class Air Condition. Average fuel consumption that I noticed for the 800km trip with more than 250kms on hilly terrain, with my three colleagues - Rajan, Rao, and Dipiti. Dipti has just bought her new grey color Baleno LXi five days back, and is happily driving. Take a look at my car I have owned. I'm sure, you'll like it.
