Volvo Auto India, the Indian arm of the Swedish car maker Volvo, is all set to beat the industry growth even as it adds more products in its line up in India. And Volvo Auto India will do that in style with the early launch of the 2010 Euro V-compliant, twin-turbo, diesel- powered S90 sedan.
Mr. Paud de Voijs, the Managing Director of Volvo Auto India reveals his optimism on the growing Indian luxury car market when he says Volvo India has grown at 16 per cent while the Indian luxury car market comprising of cars priced over Rs 24-25 lakh has grown to the tune of 11 per cent.
Reflecting his sentiments was the premium car maker’s sales charts which showed that Volvo Auto India had sold 900 cars last year and expects to beat the 10 per cent increase it had earlier projected for this year. A container load of the new S80 sedans is on its way to India and should b here around the time of the Delhi Auto Show which will be held in January.
While the new Volvo S80 diesel will be Euro V compliant, faster and more powerful, its pricing is expected to match that of the current model, at Rs 38 lakh ex showroom, Delhi. But the exact pricing will only be declared during its launch early next year.
Well, by what we hear is that the Volvo is not participating in the Delhi Auto show. But while others are busy with Delhi Auto Show, Volvo India will rather focus their resources towards the new car launches which is planned for 2010 and expand their portfolio in India with the proposed launch of Volvo XC60, a crossover or the “small premium utility” vehicle (as the guys in Volvo like to call) which should happen somewhere in the first half of 2010.
The other car from Volvo that is slated for launch in India is the S60 sedan.
