2010 Chevrolet CamaroThe sturdy American muscle car, the Chevrolet Camaro is all set to make its Indian outing.
And of course not for the filming of “Transformers” series, in which the car has starred, hold your breath, as a showcase model in the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo. General Motors has made elaborate plans to unveil this beauty at the Auto Expo to be held in Delhi next Jan.

Well, here comes the rude awakening, the guys in General Motors have no intention of bringing in this model and selling it here in India like Volkswagen has done with its Beetle and Fiat with its 500, but is being brought to the Auto Expo as just a brand-building exercise for the company.

The original model was initially designed by GM to compete with Ford Mustang, which had already carved a niche for itself in the swinging sixties. The Camaro became increasingly famous and has attained a cult status around the globe as one of the best looking muscle car or Pony car of the world.

The car which GM is planning to exhibit in the Expo is the fifth generation Camaro went into production in March earlier this year. The Chevrolet Camaro is available in 10 exciting colours and an option of two engines, the V6-Equipped LS variant and the powerful V8-powered SS model. Other prominent available features include a wireless cell-phone link, USB port, satellite radio, and remote engine start. Its 2-door convertible model is due to arrive in the overseas market by mid-2011.

Apart from the Camaro , several other models also will be showcased by GM which also includes Chevrolet Volt, Chevy Aveo CNG and electric version of the small car Spark. General Motors is also launching the hatchback, Chevrolet Beat on January 04 coinciding with the Expo.

Hybrid Cars soon to hit IndiaThe high price of the environmental-friendly cars won’t stop you from buying one anymore.

Yes, you will not be worried any more about the cost of the environmental friendly cars. But you will soon decide to buy them at any cost as the cost of environmental-friendly cars in India henceforth will be very low. And this is real good news to rejoice for those who wants to buy an environmental-friendly cars in India.

The Indian government is finally considering the wishes of the Indian car makers and car lovers, and they want to reduce the import duty on hybrid vehicles so that global automakers can introduce vehicles running on alternative fuels and power train technologies in India.

A proposal would be soon presented to the Finance Ministry by Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. And this suggestion would be about how it should be done and by how much. It is really interesting to see how the government is also now aware of the need of eco-friendly vehicles.

The high import duty of the country has restricted the auto makers introduce more cars. But now there is going to be a new way out and more and more cars will be introduced in India. And it is time for that eco-conscious bunch of people to rejoice. The Indian car industry has been waiting for reduction of duties for environment-friendly vehicles.

Toyota’s Prius which runs mainly on an electric engine supplemented by a petrol engine is one such car that is expected to be launched soon. Other hybrid cars in overseas include Honda Insight, Civic Hybrid, Ford’s Fusion Hybrid, and the Chevrolet Volt.

Chevrolet Corvette
Though General Motors has denied the fact, we have heard that the second largest car maker of the world has a hybrid Corvette project on the drawing board.

The regular 2010 Corvette comes with a 430 bhp LS3 6.2-liter V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission. The car can deliver a mileage of 6.8 km/l in the city and 10.2 km/l on the highway. Creating a plugin Corvette is possible as we have witnessed the Fisker Karma. The Fisker Karma is a plug-in hybrid luxury sports sedan that can crank out 400 bhp.

We shouldn’t forget that when the Chevy Volt concept was first unveiled, sometimes it used to be referred to as an electric Camaro indicating to its very sporty design. But that sportiness was scaled back somewhat in favor of more widespread appeal when the car went into production.

However, the Chevrolet Corvette remains General Motors’ iconic lynchpin sports car. It is powered by a very highly spirited line of V8 gas engines, though new CAFE rules regulating a fleet average of 15 km/l by 2016 have some pundits wondering if the sports car’s days could be numbered.

The GM Vice Chairman of Product Development says that the V8 engine of the super car will stay. Down the road, he plans to keep the car alive no matter what it takes even if that means hybridization.

So, what do you think? Isn’t it a hint at rolling out a Corvette hybrid in future?

General Motors have long recovered from bankruptcy and rearing to show the world its grit in car manufacturing. The proposed launch of the electric vehicle, like none before, is a very good example of this above statement.

Brushing aside the fact that seeing is believing and taking into consideration the past glory of the company one could believe that the assured car from GM, Chevrolet Volt, will be seen in the roads by 2010, as per the promise.

The car has many peculiarities and it is expected to mark a strong comeback by General Motors. The Volt being an electric car and is also an eco-friendly car. By 2010 or 2011, it is expected that the demand for electric cars will increase and General Motors, as it looks, believes in this prophecy.

The Volt is a hybrid car that runs on lithium-ion batteries, the best to start with to begin the list of specialties. The car, like other electric cars, need not be taken to a station for charging their batteries.

The batteries could be charged through electric power or gasoline engine, at the comfort of your home of office or where ever you are, because it just needs a 120-240V AC electrical outlet. It certainly looks like General Motors has bounced back in the big league once more.

The Chevy Volt is powered by a 150 hp electric motor and a 1.4 liter 4 cylinder engine, and with the fully charged batteries of the Volt one can commute around 40 miles.

With more than a handful of hybrid cars and more to be launched by 2011, it could be a tough sailing for the Volt.
