Maruti Suzuki Join Hands with Bank of Baroda

New Maruti ZEN Estilo Car in India

During this time of financial depression, Maruti Suzuki and Bank of Baroda (BoB) join hands with each other. The partnership is signed aimed at providing easy finance to Maruti cars buyers and simultaneously increasing the car loan portfolio of the bank.

This joint venture is not just a significant move for the car manufacturer and the bank but also for car buyers. Whenever any buyer will approach a dealer of the company, the salesman will spell cost advantage of taking loans from BoB, which will also act as a brand promotion for the bank.

Talking about the car buyers, the dealers will make them apply for a car loan in the nearest BoB branch, and the bank will approve the loan within 48 hours. So, this will benefit the customers as they’ll be able to manage finance easily during this time of credit crunch.

The car loan facility will be available across 600 Maruti car dealers and about 2,800 BoB branches. At present, the bank gives car loan at an interest rate of 11.25% that is considered to be lower compared to what the other banks and finance companies offer.

A supportive bank coupled with reliable and dependable Maruti Suzuki cars is worth giving a thought.

Perfect Time to Import Luxury Cars

New Toyota Lexus Car in India

It’s now the perfect time to import luxury cars to India. Importing luxury sedans like the Toyota Lexus and Mercedes Benz S-Class will now be easier, mainly from the U.S because now you don’t need to have safety and emission certificates from the 'country of origin'.

Earlier all the imported vehicles required homologation to make any car suitable for Indian conditions. But now the government has drove away the need. Homologation is mainly described as a process of modifying a car to meet the requirements of local standards and quality. This modification actually made the importing costlier. But now, when this is not required, the importers will definitely breath in the air of satisfaction.

Though any kind of certification is not required, you need to ensure that all the luxury cars are in compliance to the EU standards. Only then you can rejoice the relaxing rules of luxury car imports.

Import of Free Auto Components Restricted

Indian car industry is really facing a tough time. In the early fiscal, the industry faced the challenge posed by inflation, then the high fuel prices and high interest rate. After all this, when the auto industry was just managing to combat the impacts, a severe liquidity crunch made a hard hit.

While the challenges are still on, again a breeze of gloom has entered the car industry accelerating the hurdles with the recent imposition of restrictions on import of certain key auto components in India.

Till date bumper parts and transmission shafts were considered to fall under free import category. But according to the recent notification of DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade), these basic automobile components have been pushed under restricted category. Not only these, even components like iron products or non alloy steel coated components have been placed under the restricted import category. All these components are used to create car chassis without which the car cannot be designed.

Being an essential part of the car, the taxes, and charges on these components will further increase the cost of production. So, there are possibilities that cars prices may hike. If you are planning to purchase a car, then get one now before the prices goes up.

Honda Cars Will Now Be Expensive

New Honda Civic Car in India

Hold your breath Honda car lovers. Honda cars will now be available at an expensive price tag. The company has decided to increase the price of its entire portfolio of cars by Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 1.5 Lakh from January next year. This is depressing for those who are planning to buy Honda cars and obviously relaxing for those who have already purchased one and are rejoicing the elegant ride.

But, if anyone of you is actually keen and sure to buy any of the Honda cars then you still have time to buy with the actual price tag. As the company has decided to implement the raised prices with the oncoming New Year, you can make up your mind to stamp upon a confirmed decision to buy a Honda car.

Many of you must be thinking that during this time of financial downturn, Honda is actually doing injustice to car consumers by increasing the car prices. But it’s not their fault as well. The production cost with the increasing cost of raw materials has increased so much that the car manufacturers is forced to take such an initiative. The weakening of Indian Rupees has further fueled the senses of Honda. This eventually compels the company to increase the price tag of all its car models.

The price of Honda’s leading SUV, Honda CR-V is expected to increase by Rs 1.5 Lakh, luxury sedan Accord would go up by Rs 30,000 – Rs 50,000 and the most successful car in Honda’s fleet, Honda Civic, would have an elevated price tag of Rs 10,000 – Rs 20,000.

So, now it is the right time for you to make a decision to purchase a Honda car.

Exciting Car Offer – Buy One and Get Another at $1

Buy one car and get the other at $1! That’s a really a cool offer and once in a lifetime opportunity.

One Chicago based car dealer has announced an exciting offer for car enthusiasts in U.S. You’ll roll over with thrill to know that you can buy a '08 PT Cruiser for $1 with the purchase of $40,000 luxury SUV, 2008 Chrysler Pacifica. Apparently, many of you would run to grab this offer. It’s not worth missing it. But sadly, the offer is only valid in U.S.

The reason is none other than the slowdown in car market. The company is definitely losing revenue and profit as it is also investing a huge amount for promotional and branding activities. But, the lost is acceptable if they manage to cope up with the falling economy.

Both the cars are great in terms of style, mileage, and performance. Just imagine if any such offer to travel to India. Obviously, not talking about the special scheme on Pacifica and Cruiser in India. But, how about an offer of buying Mercedes-Benz E-Class and getting a Maruti Suzuki Swift at Rs 1 Lakh. Sounds interesting!

Just hold on your imaginations, as this kind of offer is very rare, and it is quite difficult to say if any such offer will ever make its debut to India.

Nano’s Diamond Miniature

New Tata Nano Car in India

‘Nano’s diamond miniature’ sounds exciting. We all have heard about the gold plated Porsche and the diamond studded Mercedes-Benz but talking about a diamond studded Nano is strange.

Porsche and Mercedes-Benz are high-end premium luxury cars and people will definitely be attracted towards the outstanding aesthetic appeal of these cars wrapped with gold and diamonds. But, it’s difficult to imagine a 1 Lakh car covered with diamonds. Who’s actually going to invest such a huge amount on the world’s cheapest car? Though the commercial launch of Nano would be a remarkable event in the history of car industry but then too adorning it with costly stones is just not digestible.

Yes it’s true that Nano was found covered with diamonds but only a miniature version and not the actual car.

Amazingly, a renowned jeweler created a diamond studded miniature of the world’s cheapest car. The glittering miniature of the Nano was unveiled at a popular jewellery show, IIJS (India International Jewellery Show) 2008, in Mumbai. You would be surprise to know that about 15,568 diamond pieces worth 243,870 carat is used to embellish the tiny Nano model.

With so much of embellishment, glitter, and artistry, the diamond studded Nano won bunch of appreciations and applauds from jewellery lovers across the country. The shimmering Nano even won the best design award at the show.

As we all are waiting for the launch of Tata Nano with bated breath, we wish that the car actually rolls out with a similar excitement, thrill, and appreciation. Obviously, not covered with diamonds but definitely with a blend of power, performance, promised fuel-efficiency, and price tag.

Small Car Boom in India

New Maruti 800 Cars in India

The first small car shinning in the history of Indian car industry is Maruti Suzuki 800. After that many small cars are introduced and some are still in line. After the hit of inflation, car manufacturers started taking a ride from the small car stable to maintain their foothold in the market.

As the race continues, the recent launch of Maruti Suzuki A-star has embarked a new journey for the small car manufacturers. But then too, the car won’t be able to rejoice a hassle free voyage on Indian roads with the presence of successful competitor like Hyundai i10.

A-Star is born with excellent blend of technology and innovation. The passion that drives the car is the path breaking technologies and Penta Drive that assures a smooth, passionate, and impressive drive. The car appears to compete with the i10 with its power and mileage. Both the cars generate more or less similar power output and fuel-efficiency, the two key factors driving the car industry today.

Amazingly, Hyundai i10 has been clocking good sales number with around 9000-10,000 units per month. With such a high selling number in the industry, it may be tough for A-star to just coup the success and win a crown.

But yes, if compare to Maruti Suzuki WagonR and lower version of Maruti Swift, A-star can cannibalize them. Unfortunately, the car would consume members of its own species and would face a tough time competing with leading small cars in India.

Only 50,000 A-Star Cars in Indian Market Initially

New Maruti A-Star Cars in India

A-Star from the small car segment is the latest addition to Maruti Suzuki’s stable. A-Star is boosted with a 1.0L KB series engine and carries well crafted exteriors, a spacious cabin, and an unmatchable fuel economy of around 19 km/L.

Initially only 50,000 units of A-Star will be sold in the domestic market and, at a later date, it will be upgraded to 3 Lakh units per annum. In India, A-Star comes in three variants - LXi, VXi, and the high-end model ZXi. This global car will be exported to around 150 countries with over 200 variations.

An important highlight of the car besides its fuel economy is that it is the first global car that is designed exclusively in India.

Maruti Suzuki remains confident with its latest launch and expects good sales despite the economical crunch. A-Star is in competition with Hyundai’s i10. The i10 has already impressed the buyers and has won the ‘Car of the Year’ award. With such a strong opponent, will A-Star make its way to the top? Only time will tell.

The important question that comes to mind is: Are people ready to make a new investment at this time of crisis? Regardless of an economical price or its luxurious features, I can’t help but think that this was not the right time for A-Star’s entry into the car market.

More Merc Magic on Indian Roads

New Mercedes-Benz M-Class Cars in India

Every car manufacturer is bawling about how the global recession has affected their stand in the car market. Has this economic pressure actually influenced every car manufacturer? No!

When most of the car brands are thinking of cutting down their production capacity and sales target, some of the luxury car majors have a different story to narrate. Here is the one instance of positive car growth in India.

Renowned luxury car leader, Daimler, who owns the Mercedes brand, is expected to introduce six new models from their AMG segment by this year-end. Wow! Six new models despite the financial crunch…is something interesting.

These car models will carry an expensive price tag ranging from Rs 1.25 Crore to Rs 3 Crore and will be custom ordered and delivered directly from the land of Merc. The delivery period may take two to three months depending on the customer’s choice.

Mercedes has rolled out around 20 models globally under the AMG make that comprises of sedans, coupes, wagons, SUVs, roadsters, and convertibles.

Currently Mercedes-Benz sells nine models in India that include sedans, coupes, convertibles, sport utility vehicles, and multi-purpose vehicles. During the April-October period, Mercedes-Benz India sold 1,936 units, which is a 46 percent growth compared to 1,322 units for the same period last year in 2007.

The sales number of car brands like Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Porsche have also seen similar increments in 2008 compared to 2007.

Does this mean that the financial crisis is only for the middle-class and below? The high-society in India is certainly not showing any sign of relenting the purchase of expensive luxury cars. This is definitely something to think about.

Pioneer Forays to India

Pioneer, the well known car electronic manufacturer also fails to resist the buoyant India car market. In a strong desire to conquer the Indian car market, it is now venturing the market with its sales subsidiary targeting the growing purchasing power of Indian consumers.

At present the company is struggling with the tough times brought by the global recession. With its establishment in the country, it expects a strong growth potential.

India was the only country left from BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) where the manufacturer didn’t had its own sales unit. The company promises to start operations in the new subsidiary by January 2009. So, after that the company will start marketing a wide range of auto electronics including car audio system, security systems, car safety technologies, and electrical machinery index with full swing.

As Pioneer is not new to India, it can very well strengthen its foothold in the country.

Maruti Cars Secured with Safety Features

Maruti Suzuki has always ensured safety and security for its customers in the entire fleet of car models.

Nearly about a year back, Maruti had introduced the immobilizer system across all its car models to prevent the cars from being stolen. The device is christened as ICATs (Intelligent Computerised Anti-Theft System) and works on the principle of multiplexed communication.

Today, this security system is very much a part of Maruti’s fifth world’s strategic model. Yes, talking about the new compact car Maruti Suzuki A-Star that is equipped with latest technologies which adds to security of the car.

The device is fitted with a transponder that is integrated into the car keys. This transponder is loaded with a secret code and an electronic identification that needs to be matched with the engine computer in order to start, thereby delivering a stress free drive.

Economic Recession – Nightmare for Component Manufacturers

The global recession that has struck our world is now peaking. The tide of financial downfall in the U.S. has left no company untouched. Major U.S auto manufacturers that have faced severe financial difficulties include decade old names such as General Motors and Ford.

GM and Ford are at the verge of bankruptcy. Struggling to stay alive, these manufacturers have finally asked for help from their government. How does this affect the Indian auto market?

The heavy loss along with a severe liquidity crunch in the U.S has compelled people to cut upgrades to bigger and better cars. Due to a lack of finance in the market, the number of people buying new cars has almost come to a standstill. With deteriorating car sales, car production has also seen a massive slow down, which means that the demand for auto components is fast dwindling.

Auto players, who use to import car components from the fast growing and cheaper Indian market, have cut down their auto component orders due to the hard hit of recession. Even players like Bajaj Auto, Hyundai Motors, and Tata Motors from India have cut down their component orders.

After a slowdown in August 2008, September proved to be a promising month for the auto industry. Production growth in September 2008 was recorded to be 12.70% with a domestic sales growth of 5.39%. This growth was further swayed away by the strong wind of recession in the month of October. In October, car sales fell down to about 9.05% over October 2007 along with a slowdown in car production that dropped to about 12.32%. Export sales also dipped from various markets, which have taken a stiff beating on the component manufacturers.

Fortunately, the strong and growing Indian economy with its vast working population may have a cushioning effect on the car manufacturers and dealers. However, the auto component manufacturers will hit the hardest during this slow down and the declining sales are likely to continue at least until March 2009.

Brainchild of Mercedes-Benz

New Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Cars in IndiaThe brainchild of Mercedes-Benz, Adaptive High-Beam Assistant system, will now be available on all Mercedes cars starting from spring 2009.

Just think about what you do while driving during mid-night. The visibility often reduces at night and you turn on your car’s headlights to have enough light that can take you to your destination. At times you may even find that a car approaching from the other lane distracts your vision with its high beamed headlamp. And sometimes you put on your car’s headlamp in low beam so that the other drivers are not distracted.

Swaying the headlamp between high and low beam at times blind you to see object approaching towards you and may even cause an accident. This is a very common problem faced by all car drivers during night especially when driving on highways.

To combat the situation of toggling with the headlights, Mercedes-Benz has come up with a new technology christened as Adaptive High-Beam Assistant system. This innovative car technology senses the traffic conditions with the help of a camera and adjusts the focus of car headlights automatically in accordance to the sensed conditions. It also detects the steering input and adjusts the focus for safe driving at tight corners.

This new system is designed with a desire to improve safety and driving comfort.

Radio Taxis Push Car Sales

The demand of radio taxis in India is gradually growing. Though this is increasing the market for car rental but car manufacturers are also rejoicing this growth.

During this time when manufacturers are struggling to beat the recession, radio taxis are becoming a stable source of revenue for the car industry. This revenue is believed to persist for a minimum period of three to five years because of upcoming sports event in India.

Fulfilling the needs of private car rental companies that offer radio taxis to tourists have become an alternative medium of car sales. A renowned cab service, Easy Cabs has placed an order for 700 Mahindra-Renault Logan. Alongwith the company has also placed an order for a fleet of 200 cars with Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. Other popular car rental companies like Meru Cabs and Quick Cabs have also placed an order of 500 cars with different car manufacturers.

Accepting this alternative source of car sales and revenue, car manufacturers are counteracting the decline in passenger car sales.

We can’t ignore the success of Maruti Suzuki 800 which is already running successfully and the next hit in the domestic market from the same house is Alto in the small car segment.

The sale distribution clearly dictates that the over a period of two to three years, the demand of small cars is on cards. And so, more and more numbers of small cars are due for Indian car market.

Toyota Drives Away Prius Hybrid

Toyota was very excited about the launch of its highly successful hybrid car, Toyota Prius Hybrid.

Prius Hybrid is a leading hybrid car across the globe and is adorned with superior technology, lower emission levels and excellent fuel efficiency. This hybrid car if launched would be a tough competitor of Honda’s only hybrid car in India, the outstanding Honda Civic Hybrid.

But, at present, the company has revised its plan to introduce Prius Hybrid in India. The company may have been decided to push back the launch date seeing the recent discount on Honda Civic Hybrid. A hybrid available at Rs 13.6 Lakh can easily beat a hybrid priced at Rs 22 Lakh.

Well, Toyota has made a right move by postponing the launch date. The company is also not satisfied with the infrastructure and duty structure. Now, the wait goes longer for another hybrid car in India.

Time To Look Ahead

Car manufacturers are struggling hard to cope up with the hard hit of global recession. Some are cutting down their car prices, some are replacing expensive car components with cheaper one. While many are offering special discounts for corporate and government employees and few are even cutting down their production.

At the other end of the spectrum automotive manufacturers strongly feel that Government must also move hand in hand with them to help stoke the demand in the economy. They believe that if government reduces the excise duty, it will help them to reduce car prices and deliver best to their esteem customers. Car manufacturers think that reduction in excise duty, indirect taxes, fiscal stimulus, and improved infrastructure would help boost auto industry in the country.

Surprisingly, the rate of inflation is coming down with the reduction in oil prices. All take this is as a golden opportunity to look ahead to the future growth of the auto industry in India. Industry, Government, and Economy all look ahead towards a brighter vision.

No ‘fair’ for Nano

Nano disappointed its fans once again! The people of Jharkhand were eagerly waiting for the Nano at the Jharkhand Trade Fair, which is held every year on 15th of November. The trade fair is organised every year as a part of celebration of the birth of the Jharkhand state.

Nano was also expected to be present at the 10-day fair, but unfortunately Tata Motors could not bring it to the trade show due to some reasons. Tata Nano was supposed to the main attraction and even car enthusiasts were eagerly waiting for the glimpse of this ‘one Lakh’ car. However, other Tata models were on the ramp.

Nano’s absence at the fair not only disappointed its fans but also the government as it has affected the revenue collection, which definitely could have boosted with the Nano’s display.

98 Civic Hybrids in One Day

The count 98 in one day is commendable! It’s incredible to believe that Honda has sold off 98 cars in just one day. This awesome sales figure was recorded after the company has slashed down the price of its Civic Hybrid by Rs 8 Lakh. This high sales number is obviously attributed to the sharpest and steepest decline in price tag of any car in the history of Indian car industry.

A discount of nearly 40% in the price of the hybrid has lured many waning car customers. The demand has increased so much that Honda is struggling to keep the delivery in pace with the customer’s demand.

It’s more exciting to know that the number sold in one day is much higher than that sold in the entire span of six months since the car was launched in June 2008.

Honda still aims to sell 100 more cars and now let’s see how much hybrids ply on Indian roads.

Hyundai Makes A Humble Move

Hyundai is celebrating the production of its 2 million cars. In the course of this celebration, it’s touching to know that the car manufacturer has spread an unprecedented light of humbleness.

The association ensures that children are not deprived of their basic rights.

H.S. Lheem, Managing Director of Hyundai, handed over the car keys symbolically to the brand ambassador of CRY, Shah Rukh Khan. He then passed on the keys to the director of the NGO’s West and Volunteer Action.

This new compact car is powered with the new series of KB engine that delivers 67 bhp. It is also designed to meet the future emission norms along with compliance to the ‘end of life vehicle’ (ELV) specifications that will enable the cars to get recycled up to 95%.

India’s First Fuel Cell Car

There are speculations in the car industry that the Tata Motors is prepared to introduce India’s first fuel cell car in association with ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).

ISRO works to developing space technologies. This organization is working with Tata to produce this new prototype that would be tagged as the world’s cleanest car.

Fuel cell technology is a rocket fuel technology completely based on a combination of hydrogen and oxygen. A combination of two will be placed in the fuel cells to propel the car by generation of electricity. And when the mixture is expelled from the car, the environment will get nothing more than crystals of water vapour, something that won’t create an ecological imbalance.

It is also believed that this hydrogen-powered car would have hydrogen storage, regulatory and control system, all driven by the electricity generated from fuel cells.

Happily, the hydrogen-powered car will have zero emissions. Whenever this car will make its debut to India, it will definitely change the image of Indian car industry.

New Car Launches Delayed

Indian car industry was eyeing the new car launches with hopes and aspirations that the new excitement will enlighten the slow moving market. But all the expectations are shattered as manufacturers are postponing their car launches to combat the economic recession.

First in line are Fiat cars, Linea and Punto. Fiat has postponed the launch of Linea to December and even the launch of Punto is pushed to next year. The company fears the poor sentiments of the prevailing car market but is optimistic that the situation will improve.

Next in pipeline is the Bravo, a luxury hatchback, that was supposed to be launched early but now the manufacturer refuses to give a final date for the launch. Even the launch of Tata Nano is on a continuous delay. Earlier the launch was delayed because of the Singur issues but this time, the reason may be different. Maybe the company is not willing to capture the market with the present scenario.

Even Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have pushed their launches from the festive season to year end. Maruti A-Star was planned for launch in October during the celebrations of Diwali but now it will make its debut in November or early December this year. Hyundai has also announced the commercial launch of i20 in the domestic market by early 2009.

So, with delayed car launches, new excitement and thrill have also been pushed back.

Cars May Get Cheaper

Innovation is creeping in the car industry as car manufacturers are trying to hunt for cost efficiencies. This seems to be a worse period for the car industry when global recession has bang the Motown.

Shockingly, car manufacturers are struggling to drive hard bargains with commodity vendors and find interesting ideas for tightening the belt.

Talking about Honda, the company is looking to squeeze operational efficiency and cut down the use of electricity to skim cost. Interestingly, Honda is also growing creepers on the rooftops to reduce the dependence on AC. This is just an initiative; the company is still trying further to help meet the required cost rduction.

After Honda, Tata Motors is also trying to cut down cost by replacing expensive car components with cheap and affordable alternatives. Even Maruti is making a greener move and trying to make its car parts recyclable.

In a similar manner if all the car manufacturers are on the verge of meeting the required cost efficiencies, then cars of the future are definitely going to be cheaper.

High Expectation from A-Star

Indian car market is currently experiencing a bad phase. Seeing the slowdown, nearly all car manufacturers are deferring their plans for production as well as investments. They are even trying to cut down the car cost and bring out ways to deliver the best to car consumers with minimal profit margins.

In this situation, Maruti Suzuki is struggling hard to keep up its sales momentum and is holding high hopes from its proposed compact car, the Maruti Suzuki A-Star.

The company is banking on this small car to beat the downturn and bring a new dawn for the car industry. It is really shocking to know that even the leading car manufacturer like Maruti is severely hit by the storm of recession along with the heat of inflation.

Thinking that a new excitement may drive away the storm, Maruti wishes to launch this car at the earliest. The company feels that the newly designed and impressive A-Star will definitely beat the year-end blues.

Luxurious Q5 from Audi

Audi plans to assemble its model Q5 locally, a Crossover Utility Vehicle that made its debut globally earlier this year. If the volume of this luxury car is high enough, then there is the chance of assembling the CUV in Aurangabad facility near Pune.

The company would have to make the Q5 compliance to the Indian condition that is likely to hit the Indian shores by the second half of 2009. Recently, Audi’s sports car R8 made its debut in India with a price tag of Rs 1.3 crore. With this launch, Audi has great expectation and the luxury car manufacturer is confident of selling 20 cars by next year.

The Audi R8 had bagged 15 orders even before it was launched in India. This was an amazing response from the price sensitive Indian consumers. The company also has high hopes with its model Q5.

Will Audi Q5 be able gather the same attention as R8? Well it’s too early to say!

Honda Civic Hybrid Gets Affordable!

The Honda Civic Hybrid now wants to spread Green all around! Not only the environment-friendly “reduce emissions” kind, but also the kind that makes a miser smile. Honda gives its Civic Hybrid an 8 Lakh price cut, which is said to be one of the steepest in the history of the Indian car market. This offer is effective immediately and is said to be valid till the end of the year. Talk about saving GREEN!

The cut will be between the Rs 8.14 to 8.17 Lakh range bringing the ex-showroom price of the Hybrid down to approximately Rs 13.25 Lakh in some cities – close to the price of its much more successful Civic petrol sibling. This is the first for Honda in terms of marketing strategy practiced in India. However, this strategy is not uncommon for other Indian car manufacturers.

To try and bring Hybrid sales of 63 cars in 6 months up to par to match the 5000 cars in 6 months Civic Petrol sales is a big dream to have and will be an even bigger accomplishment if successful. Well, this may not be the last drastic step Indians see car manufacturers take if the world economy continues to disintegrate in the near future.

Child-Friendly Cars

Everyone desires to view safe and child-friendly roads in the country. Recently, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways makes baby seats mandatory for all passenger cars from 2010 to ensure a better safety for the children.

Though the execution of this safety feature is a long way to go, this will definitely help to ease the worries of parents who try hard to make their children comfortable on the front seat. Even while driving, they have their eyes on their children which disturb their concentration as well. With the plans being implemented, they would have nothing to worry when behind the wheel, ensuring safety for their tiny tots.

The desire was fueled by the implementation of a similar feature in overseas countries like Australia, Europe, and USA where the Child Restraint System is mandatory for cars. Good that such a plan is being executed in the country though late but it is.

Maruti Makes a Green Move
When all car manufacturers are making a greener move, Maruti Suzuki can’t stay behind. Eyeing the huge demand of eco-friendly cars, Maruti is all set to make its entire fleet of cars green by 2010. Amazingly, the company is planning to make all its car models adhere to end of life vehicle (ELV) specifications by 2010. These specifications are to erode out hazardous substances and components that are used during car production. The main aim is to make its range of cars recyclable.

Starting from the new small car, Maruti Suzuki A-Star, Maruti will further follow the norms to ensure that about 85% of the car could be recycled after the life of the car ends. Though these norms and specifications are not mandatory in India, Maruti feels the need to implement them and create an eco-friendly environment.

To make all the cars compliant to ELV, company will knock out the use of harmful substances like mercury, cadmium, and lead including the hexavalent chrome, toxic and mutagenic compounds.

The gradual move towards a greener approach will definitely bring a revolution in the Indian car market.

Hyundai Cars to Be Lighter

In the era of crude oil depletion almost all the car manufacturers are racing to build the lightest and the most fuel efficient cars. Hyundai Motors is also in the race and taking significant steps to ensure lighter weight of its car models in near future.

Interestingly, Hyundai is offering incentives for all ideas and beliefs that can help the company to cut down the car weight. Skilled engineers, designers, and researchers have come up with certain ideas that have contributed in reducing nearly about 380 grams of each Hyundai car.

Furthermore, the company is hunting for better and efficient ways to reduce car weight, eventually delivering better performance and improved fuel efficiency.

Even the market leader, Maruti Suzuki is working on a similar concept and is trying to cut down the weight of car components to bring down the actual car weight with the rest of the factors remaining constant.

Fuel-efficient Cars from Ford

Fuel-efficient cars are on demand! Yes, with the fuel prices going high, everyone is looking for the fuel-efficient cars. Many car manufacturers are working on to produce cheap and fuel-efficient cars to grab more consumers.

Fuel guzzlers are no more a choice of price sensitive Indian consumers. Seeing the current demand of such cars, the Ford Indian is also on the way to introduce fuel-efficient cars.

Even though a line of fuel-efficient cars are on the cards for the Indian car market that include cars fueled by compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum expected to hit the Indian roads by 2010. Ford cars will certainly be able to make its position in the market.

Currently, Ford’s models for India are Ikon, Fusion and Fiesta cars, as well as the Endeavor. The global economic recession has affected the Ford sales but still the company holds the positive attitude.

Ford will surely face a tough competition from other car manufacturers, who are racing to dominate the lucrative Indian car market. For instance, Japanese car major, Toyota is also working on a new fuel-efficient and then we also have the buzzing model Tata Nano for Indian roads.

Car’s Interior also Needs Attention

Car designing was earlier restricted to the style, appeal and exterior of the car. But now the trend has changed. Everyone wants path breaking aesthetics both in the exterior as well as interior. This has widened the arena of car designing.

Whether it’s a high-end luxury car or a small compact car, we always need a warm hug from the car interiors. Car manufacturers and designers later realized the fact that a normal car owner spends much of their time in the interior, either driving, reading books, or listening music and some even spend most of their days in their cars to commute from one place to another. Interestingly, some car owners even ask for customization of the car interiors.

Talking about the BMW 3-Series convertible that offers a blend of comfort and luxury with their high-end car seats and the armrest. Armrest has reflective polymers to reduce surface temperature of the leather. Coming to the Volvo cars, it also offers innovative interiors. Similarly, many car manufacturers offer a blend of comfort and luxury in the car interiors to lure more customers.

There are many things that can complement the interior today. A long list including the friendly controls, impressive dashboards, hugging car seats, and appealing upholstery, actually define the inner beauty of a car.

As it is a known fact that the inner soul is more beautiful than the outer appearance. The same applies to a car’s interior that needs to be more impressive and beautiful than the exteriors.

Government Employees Aid to Surge Car Sales

Though the Indian car market is on a slowdown, car manufacturers have recorded a surge in sales due to special offers extended to the government employees.

Many car manufacturers like the Maruti, Hyundai, and General Motors, during the festive season had introduced special schemes and discounts for government employees in response to the pay revision. This special scheme has showed a substantial jump in the car sales across the sector. So, these manufacturers further plans to extend the schemes by another one month to cope up with the sluggish car market.

Maruti, Hyundai, and General Motors are all happy and satisfied with the announcement of such schemes in the car market. This was a direct hit to the government employees who rarely feels the need to have a car. But now, the offers have knocked out their thoughts and they are approaching car dealers.

The growing consumer interest has forced them to extend the scheme with high hopes to record a still higher sales figure.

Mitsubishi to Cut Down Its Car Production

Mitsubishi Motors is thinking of cutting down the production at its factory in Japan by up to 1,00,000 units from November due to the slow sales.

From the past few months, the car sales has dipped more than expected in all major markets due to the weak consumer confidence and the economic pressure that is casting its shadow on all the industrial sectors.

The car major will lower down the manufacturing of cars and SUVs, and is anticipated to amend its planned worldwide from the current 1.39 million units in the business year ending in March 2009.

Even Toyota Motors, one of the healthiest car manufacturers as reflected by its AAA debt rating, is also likely to post its first quarterly sales decline in seven years.

Production cutting is a major issue and this means the number of models produced will be limited. Yes Indian car market too would be affected with this decision.

Hyundai May Increase its Car Price

Hyundai Motors may revise the price of all its car models and is expected to increase the prices by around two percent. Yes it’s true! The car manufactures are highly affected by the rise in input costs along with the other factor like lack of credit availability and high interest rates.

To offset the input cost, Maruti Suzuki has recently increased priced of all its models in India. Hyundai being the largest car exporter of India sources 25 per cent of its steel from India and the rest from South Korea and Japan. Thus Hyundai also feels the need to increase the prices.

In the current situation of economic slowdown, the car buyers are already depriving themselves from purchasing new cars. The new price hike will further slow down the car sales. The car manufacturers are forced to increase the price due to increase in raw materials, but there should be some solution to this. With the frequent price hike, it is not only becoming difficult to own a car but also to maintain them. But at present we can’t do anything rather than to wait for the economic boom to happen again.

Improved aerodynamics, low-resistance tyres, leather trimmed steering wheel, and lower suspension add more worth to this environment-conscious car.

To make the car eco-friendly, Skoda has utilized various measures to reduce the car weight which has a direct impact on the amount of fuel-consumption. Removal of spare wheel, gear alteration, and remapping of the engine has greatly helped the company to achieve low-car weight and make its Superb more superb and scintillating.

And now, after 12 years another car to coup the record.

This proposed car will take away the sight of Formula One racing cars that are said to be the fastest on tracks. With a speed of 1600kmph we can definitely imagine the car flying in air. It’s a tough question to answer as to when such cars will come to India.

Punto Goes Green

It’s not just in India, but other car manufacturers across the world are also introducing dual fuel cars to spread awareness of eco-friendly cars.

It’s good to know that Fiat has introduced a dual version of Fiat Punto. The new version of the car is functional with dual engines, methane and petrol. It is purely aimed at reducing automotive emissions and cutting down the running cost of the car. Powered by a 1.4L engine, the car can run up to a combined range of 1000 km, covering a distance of 310 km on methane alone.

Infact the launch of Fiat Punto is in pipeline for India. We wonder whether the dual version will be rolled out or not. But it would be good if the methane-petrol Punto is introduced to India as it will bring a new revolution in the Indian car market.

Toyota’s Low-Cost Car for India

The heat is on to capture the price conscious Indian car market. Now Toyota Motors and Daihatsu Motor (its mini vehicle unit) are working on a new car project for India that will carry the price tag of nearly Rs 2.5 Lakh. The car will roll out in the Indian roads by 2010 under a new separate brand that will target the younger generation.

The trend of low-cost cars in India is started by Tata Nano which is now been followed by other car manufacturers. Looks like the Toyota low-cost car will be a tough competition to Tata Nano, which is scheduled to be launched in mid-2009. But still the Nano carry a cheaper price tag.

The company also revealed its plans to introduce "entry family cars,” in India and Brazil by 2010 and 2011, respectively, with the cost price of around Rs 4 Lakh.

What do you think? Will the Toyota’s new cars be able to captivate the Indian consumers?

Nano Goes Spiritual

Nano with all its charm have come a long way even before it has actually launched in India.

Fueling the senses of many Indian car consumers and banging the global car industry with expertise and technology, Nano has come beyond the limits of being just a car.

You would be amazed to know that an 82 year old psychotherapist has done a complete research on the work culture of Nano employees and the plant. And he feels that the most awaited ultra-cheap car now goes spiritual.

The way Nano has overcome challenges, the way Nano project plant employees are integrated clearly symbolizes the work culture of Indian companies.

Through this the old psychotherapist reveals five aspects of work leading towards a fulfilling mission, Chintan, Manan, Karma, Shraddha and Mukti. He is still working on that. Furthermore, Dr. Kanu Bhatt from Canada in collaboration with Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences is also doing a doctoral thesis on the work culture of Nano plant.

Chintan is to enable employees to help introspect on their actual duties and responsibilities, Manan is to encourage people to share their knowledge and observations with other employees, Karma is to achieve a sense of accomplishment, Sharadha co-relates to self-confidence and the trust placed among the members working under one single project, and finally Mukti symbolizes the actual picture of Indian market with a paradigm shift from a conventional image of an employee.

Good to see a purely Indianized car moving from a dream to concept, concept to car, and now from car to spirituality.

Festive Season for Car Manufacturers

While we all were celebrating the lamps and chants of Diwali, the car manufacturers were also rejoicing festive season.

Festive season for car manufacturers is not pertaining to Diwali but the season of good sales. Yes, the wait proved to be fruitful for them. Couple of months ago when the car sales was drastically going down, they has tied high hopes from the Diwali season. And their hopes actually reaped success for them.

The day of Dhanteras, believed to be an auspicious day for buying metals, recorded the best sales figure. Amazingly, there are talks among the car dealers and manufacturers that about 15,000 vehicles or more have been sold across the country on that one single day. Though this Dhanteras was not able to beat the charm of last year, it was satisfactory, especially during this time of downturn.

Giving a strong reason to smile, Dhanteras proved to be a big bonanza for car manufacturers.
