HM introduces All New 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander

Hindustan Motors Limited, the flagship venture of the multi-billion dollar CK Birla Group, has introduced an upgraded Mitsubishi Outlander 2012.

Hindustan Motors Limited was established at Port Okha in Gujarat during the pre-independence era. In 1948, it was shifted to Uttarpara in Hoogly district, West Bengal, where it started the production of the iconic Ambassador which has created waves in the Indian automotive industry. The company is equipped with integrated facilities like press shop, forge shop, foundry, machine shop and aggregate assembly units for engines, axles etc. Presently the company manufactures Ambassador in the passenger car segment, light commercial vehicle 1-tonne payload mini-truck Winner 1.5 XD PLUS (diesel) and Winner 1.8 XD PLUS (CNG), small commercial vehicle VEER and auto components at its Uttarpara plant. The company also runs operations at Pithampur near Indore in Madhya Pradesh where it produces both variants of Winner.

The Mitsubishi Outlander has a perfect blend of style and substance with its bold design and stylish body graphics that beholds the traditional appeal of a SUV. It was first launched earlier in 2010. Having served the market for a couple of years, the company has given this SUV a major facelift to compete in the present SUV segment.

Ford India Lays Foundation for US$ 1 Billion Plant at Sanand

Ford India is coming up with its new US$1 billion state-of-the-art, integrated manufacturing facility in Sanand and its future growth on the subcontinent. The foundation stone was laid by Ford India at a paint shop area of its new 460- acre manufacturing facility on 22nd March 2012. The ceremony was attended by Micheal Boneham, Ford India’s president and managing director, Industry Secretary, Government of Gujarat, Maheswar Sahu and Felix Guillen, Ford’s executive director of manufacturing, for Asia Pacific & Africa.
The integrated manufacturing facility will be able to produce an additional 240,000 new Ford vehicles and 270,000 engines per year for domestic as well as export markets.

The fully integrated plant will support stamping, body assembly, paint, trim and final assembly. The paint shop will utilize Ford’s eco-friendly rotational dip technology and 3-Wet technology paint processes which improves paint quality, depth and durability.

“Ford is very proud to invest in India during these momentous times of rapid development, economic growth and profound change for India,’’ said Guillen. “Both in Chennai and in Sanand, Ford will create a lasting investment, not just in the physical manufacturing facilities that will be constructed here, but an investment in our workforce themselves and in their communities, our suppliers and our partners, in Gujarat and across India.”

To date, Ford has invested approximately USD 2 billion in India which is expected to grow with the completion of the Sanand integrated manufacturing facility in 2014. The completion of this manufacturing facility will trigger 5000 direct jobs as well as thousands of indirect jobs in Gujarat.

During the global reveal of the Ford Ecosport at the 2012 Auto Expo held at Delhi, Ford has announced that it is going to add eight new vehicles in its array of vehicles in India by mid-decade in order to compete in the dynamic domestic auto market. The first one in the list is the All-New Ford Fiesta, which was launched in July 2011, that boasts of brilliant driving dynamics and overall refinement along with great design owing to which it has generated tremendous interest with Indian customers.

Datsun Brand to Launch in India

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. has announced on Wednesday that it is going to launch the Datsun brand in India, Indonesia and Russia in 2014.

Nissan had discontinued the historic brand Datsun in 1981 and now plans to re-introduce this brand as the entry level car.Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan, at Nissan’s global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan, narrated the Datsun brand’s launch plans which focuses on customers in high growth countries like India.

“Nissan Power 88,” a comprehensive, six-year business plan will accelerate the company’s growth across new markets and segments. The Datsun brand is also going to play an important role in this. Datsun will meet the expeditiously growing needs of demanding customers by focusing on the business expansion in growth markets. The cars will feature the latest technology and will meet the distinct local customer needs.
“Datsun is an important part of the heritage of Nissan,” said Ashwani Gupta, program director of Nissan’s newly-created Datsun Business Unit. “We will offer our customers in India modern and spirited cars that they will be happy and proud to own—at an affordable price.”

Though a global brand, Datsun will meet the local needs. Nissan plans to tap its global expertise in tailoring Datsun vehicles to local market condition. The extensive world-class Japanese engineering and the innovative design of Nissan will be portrayed in Datsun which will run on the Indian roads in a couple of years. The company plans to launch two cars which would be designed, developed and manufactured in India for the Indian market and the price would be below 4 lakhs in 2014. The cars will be built on modern architecture which is light weight and more fuel efficient.. The car is likely to be equipped with compact petrol engines. The diesel, hybrid and electric power train under the Datsun brand is awaited.

ŠKODA’s announces its Summer Check-Up Camp

ŠKODA announces a month long check-up camp starting 2nd April 2012 to 30th April 2012. There will be 16 point complimentary check-up in store for ŠKODA customers. ŠKODA aims to service at least 28,000 cars during this month long check-up camp. Previously, ŠKODA has organized monsoon car care camps, pollution check-up camps and festival camps to enhance the ŠKODA driving experience.

ŠKODA has commenced its operation in India since November 2001 as a subsidiary of ŠKODA Auto a. s. Czech Republic (Volkswagen Group) which is one of the fastest growing car manufacturers in Europe. Pajero Sport introduced in India by Hindustan Motors

Hindustan Motors Limited (HM), India’s pioneering car company, manufactures Mitsubishi cars in India under a technical agreement. HM has launched the Pajero Sport, the Mitsubishi SUV which has won the world’s toughest driving contest, the Dakar Rally. The Pajero sport was unveiled at a news media conference in New Delhi on 12th March 2012 by Mr. A Sankara Narayanan, Director, Hindustan Motors, and Mr. Masahiko Ueki, Executive Officer and Corporate General Manager of Asia and ASEAN Office, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Japan.

The Pajero sport is equipped with VG turbo engine which churns out a maximum power of 178 bhp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm, on-demand 4 WD facility, rear stabilizer and a turning radius of 5.6 meters.

The Pajero sport has a perfect blend of style and substance with its bold design and stylish body graphics that beholds the traditional appeal of a SUV. It is loaded with many features that includes stylish aesthetics, robust build quality, absolute power, creature comforts and versatile driving dynamics. The slogan “Go.Play” very well suits this new vehicle.

Mr. Sankara Narayana said “Pajero Sport, launched in India today, introduces a new generation of SUV thinking, fusing fun and comfort of urban driving with the thrill and excitement of all-terrain off-road driving. It is a perfect amalgamation of power, luxury, style, safety and comfort,”. Pajero clocked 28 per cent growth. It was launched in India in 2002 when Mr. Narayanan was HM’s managing director. The tie-up for manufacturing and marketing of Mitsubishi Motors’ vehicles was linked during his stewardship of Hindustan Motors.

The Pajero Sport has been well accepted by Asian customers as an urban premium SUV. Stressing upon the strong bond between HM and Mitsubishi Motors, Mr. Ueki categorically stated, “I would like to express my commitment that Mitsubishi Motors will continuously introduce new models in the Indian market.”

The Pajero Sport has been priced at Rs. 23.53 lakh, ex-showroom New Delhi. Bookings have started from March 13, 2012.

Tata Megapixel concept displayed at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show

Tata Motors, India’s automobile giant, has unveiled the “Tata Megapixel”, a new four seater global range extended electric vehicle (REEV) concept, at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show. Tata Motors is India’s one of the largest automobile company. Through subsidiaries and associate companies (like Jaguar Land Rover) Tata Motors has operations in the UK, South Korea, Thailand, Spain and South Africa. It also has an industrial joint venture with Fiat cars in India.

 

The Tata Megapixel can run upto 900 km (with a single tank of fuel) with fuel economy of 100km/litre by using a unique combination of technology that includes combining a lithium ion phosphate battery and an on-board petrol engine generator for recharging on the move. This new innovation depicts a triumph of somewhat homegrown engineering. It will be launched commercially in another three years.

 

Mr. Prakash M. Telang, Managing Director – India Operations, Tata Motors, said, “The Tata Megapixel, developed by our design centres in India, the UK and Italy, is our idea of a city car for discerning motorists in any megacity of the world. It is a result of the progress we have made on the Tata Pixel, displayed last year, and also denotes the company’s future design direction.”

 

The Tata Megapixel is equipped with “Zero Turn” drive system which offers high maneuverability. There are four independent electric motors, one at each wheel.  The electric hub motors drive the wheels in opposite direction, while the front wheels are turned at an acute angle enabling a turning radius of 2.8 meter during parking. The car can be charged by parking it over the induction pad.

 

The Tata Megapixel is elegantly designed with cost-effective yet beautiful exterior embellishments. The integrated lamp and grille renders a dynamic front end. The floating C-pillar, wrap-around belt line finisher and a double-sliding door system, for easy entry and exit in confined spaces, are the other notable features. It can comfortably accommodate four adults with luggage. The front seats are cantilevered on the central tunnel, releasing floor space for extra storage.

 

The Tata Megapixel is equipped with an advanced human machine interface (HMI). A smart phone can be connected with the car at the console docking point. The instrument panel comprises of a large touchscreen HMI from which the smart device and many other functions like temperature, ventilation, driving modes and performance can be controlled.

BMW Introduces Driver Training Programme in India



BMW India has introduced the BMW Driver Training Programme in India for BMW customers to improve the skills, reactions and awareness of the drivers. Initially the training program is being conducted in Delhi NCR and Chennai from February to March 2012. BMW India dealerships in Delhi, Gurgaon and Chennai will identify the owners and prospective buyers who are willing to participate in this training program.

The President of BMW Group India, Dr. Andreas Schaaf, said, “BMW Driver Training is a signature training programme to improve the driving skills, handling, reaction time and awareness of BMW customers. The aim was, and remains, to provide an opportunity to know the capabilities of a BMW better and experience the superior BMW technology. The BMW Driver Training programme is designed to help customers to overcome potential hazards in day-to-day driving.”

The instructors teach the customers various driving techniques which includes correct seating position, adjusting the mirrors in the car, safety belts, seats, and steering wheel position before starting the vehicle, avoidance manoeuvres, getting acquianted with the vehicle safety features, emergency and target braking, dynamic lane changes, speed control, steering control, following proper lane positions, Speed and Space Adjustments and communication with other drivers (when to use the turn signal, headlights, horn and lane positions).

“BMW Driver Training programme focuses on the challenges posed everyday on the road. It helps the driver to retain composure and remain clear headed, as well as apply the knowledge in critical situations. BMW Driver Training programme provides the ideal foundation for increasing the necessary self-confidence as well as enhancing the pleasure of everyday driving. The BMW Driver Training programme also help the drivers to handle the emergency situations like vehicle malfunction (brake fails, tyre blows out, engine fire), driving in bad weather and skid recovery. Seo is Hyundai India’s New MD

Bo Shin Seo has been appointed as the new Managing Director (MD) Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter. Seo was Hyundai’s Executive  Director Production prior to this appointment.

Upon assuming the new charge, Seo said he looks forward to taking “Hyundai Motor India to newer heights and working closely with the extended Hyundai family.”

Seo succeeds Han Woo Park who returns to Korea as Chief Financial Officer of Kia Motors. Park said who lived in India for nine years looking after the Hyundai operations said, “My long association with HMIL has provided me with an immense amount of learning. I am confident that HMIL will go from strength to strength under Mr. Seo’s leadership.”

 

A trained engineer by profession, Seo was earlier the Hyundai’s Production Head at its state-of-the-art Alabama plant in the USA.
