As anticipated, FIAT India Automobiles have launched the 2012 edition of Linea and Punto models today. For the year 2012, Fiat India has brought in considerable cosmetic updates to the cars. However, the engines of the cars remain unchanged. The new cars now boast of having a host of new features and a set of new clothes.
Fiat India fared miserably in India in 2011, thanks to poor sales. The Italian car major had to work on a plan to regain the trust of its customers and it did for the year 2012. As mentioned earlier, though the changes remain entirely cosmetic, Fiat India has pumped in a few new technologies in its cars, so it can justify the cost the car will be sold at.
While the Punto will be powered by 1.2 FIRE Petrol, 1.4 FIRE Petrol and 1.3 MULTIJET Diesel engines, the Linea will be powered by 1.3 ADVANCED MULTIJET DIESEL and 1.4 FIRE Petrol engines.
The notable highlights of the 2012 Fiat cars are fully refreshed interiors with new interior theme colours and an all new exterior colour i.e, Oceanic Blue. Previously, the Punto and Linea were being offered with Fox Trot Azure, Tuscan Wine, Sunbeam Beige and Exotica Red. A segment first, Rain sensing wipers and auto switch on/off headlamps is now available with the Linea. If you might recall, Fiat India was first to bring in innovative technologies in its cars such as Blue & Me and MY Car. Apart from this, there is a range of features and equipment available across the range with much higher value to the customer at every price point and significant quality improvements on key attributes like ground clearance, air conditioning and NVH for diesel versions.
Speaking on the launch of 2012 Linea and Punto, Mr. Rajeev Kapoor, President & CEO, FIAT India Automobiles Ltd said, “At FIAT it is our constant endeavor to provide customers with newer and better cars with timely upgradation in comfort and technology. Since customer satisfaction is of utmost importance, we continuously look at ways to provide better service and products.” Commenting on the new versions of the Fiat and Punto, Kapoor said: “After receiving feedback from customers, we are launching new models of Linea and Punto with upgraded air-conditioning systems and better ground clearance, in new colours and interiors.”
The 2012 Fiat Linea now gets a host of new features. The base version Linea gets a variety of new equipments with an integrated audio system, the mid variant now features Auto AC, ABS with EBD, alloy wheels, airbags and ‘Blue and Me’ infotainment system. The ground clearance also has been now heightened to 185 mm. The New Linea gets improved and powerful Air conditioning system. The Top-end Fiat Linea diesel is clad with leather seats, chrome interiors and ne 16” alloys. It also gets a segment first rain sensors and auto switch on/off head lamps. The interiors colour scheme is now light beige themed fabric seats and floor carpets, dashboard and door trims. The 2012 edition Fiat Linea also gets an improved fuel efficiency of 20.4Km/L with 1.3 Advanced Multijet Diesel and 14.6 Km/L with 1.4 FIRE petrol engine.
The 2012 Fiat Punto now gets a prepped up ground clearance (Punto 1.2- 195 mm and Punto 1.4 and 1.3 – 185 mm). The Fiat Punto will feature an integrated audio system and central locking. This version Punto would feature front power windows making it the only premium hatchback with such rich content for an entry level variant. The new Punto is all set to floor its customers with its new bright grey interiors, fabric seats, carpeted flooring and door trims. The entire range of Fiat Punto now gets a dual tone dashboard. The improved fuel efficiency for the Punto 1.2 FIRE Petrol is 15.2 Km/L, for 1.4 FIRE Petrol is 14.6 Km/L and for 1.3 MULTIJET Diesel it is 20.3 Km/L.
