Mitsubishi-Pajero-Heart-in-Mouth-rally-in-Delhi
Hindustan Motors-Mitsubishi’s much awaited and renowned Pajero Heart-in Mouth rally enthralled car enthusiasts in the national capital region on Sunday. The adventurous and adrenaline-charged sports utility vehicle (SUV) event came on the heels of its first leg organized very successfully in Ludhiana recently.

The rally was organised to provide owners of the legendary Mitsubishi Pajero a unique opportunity to explore and experience the outstanding off-roading capabilities of the iconic SUV which has the unique distinction of having won the world’s toughest car driving contest, Dakar Rally, as many as 13 times.

A large number of Mitsubishi Pajero owners and SUV aficionados from in and around the NCR gathered here to expose their mean machines to the challenge of extremely tough driving conditions. Over 40 Pajeros and a dozen Mitsubishi Monteros formed part of the rally which was flagged off from Tivoli Garden, Chhattarpur Hills, Mehrauli, Delhi at 9.00 a.m.

The participants experienced 42 kms of intense off-road and extreme driving conditions through rocky and rugged terrains including dirt roads, mud, slush, up-hill and downhill gradients etc. Some of the prominent landmarks along the Pajero rally route were Gurgaon-Faridabad-Sohna Axis, crusher zone, Mohtabad village etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yoshiaki Wada, HM-Mitsubishi’s Head-Marketing and Channel Development, said, “Pajero has attained a cult status across the world with its owners forming Pajero clubs and groups in large numbers. The whole idea behind organizing the Pajero Heart-in-Mouth rally is to bring together the lovers of this incredible vehicle on a common platform where they may bond and share their Pajero experiences.”

“Delhi is an important market for us and we have a strong customer base for Pajero here. Expectedly, the turn-out was highly encouraging. We will organize similar rallies in Vadodara, Pune, Coimbatore and Bengaluru in the coming months.”

4

The Heart-in-Mouth rally, which is approved by Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI), has Cougar Motorsport as its off-roading partner which managed today’s entire rally from doing the advance reconnaissance run to planning the route, briefing customers about the drive, providing support with expert drivers, to assisting with back-up vehicles etc.

The Mitsubishi Pajero makes substantial use of strong yet lightweight high-tensile steel panels that give its stylish and contoured body all-terrain rigidity. Mounting that body on a ladder frame with cross-members increases torsional rigidity for enhanced stability and smoother overall ride. Completing the robust package are power-train, suspension and body components specially developed to withstand world-class rally competition.

The 2012 new Ferrari 458 Spider Unveiled

458_Spider_1
The new 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider, the world’s first mid-rear engined berlinetta, equipped with a retractable hard top has debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new 458 Spider joins the 458 Italia, widening the range of Ferrari’s mid-rear engined V8s and offering the same uncompromising technological solutions, handling and performance in a refined open-top configuration. It is equipped with a Ferrari patented, fully retractable hard top, a world first for a sports car with this lay-out.

The 458 Spider is powered by Ferrari’s naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 which was nominated as the 2011 International Engine of the Year for its engineering excellence in terms of driveability, performance, economy and refinement. The power is transferred to the road by Ferrari’s class-leading dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission through the sophisticated E-Diff, itself integrated with the F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS for maximum handling dynamics.

Certain of the car’s features, such as its accelerator pedal mapping and the damping of the multilink suspension, have been calibrated to guarantee maximum sportiness and absolute driving pleasure with the top down, in line with Maranello’s exclusive spider tradition. Even the engine soundtrack has been honed to ensure that the car’s occupants are completely captivated by the drop-top driving experience.

458_Spider_3

Entirely in aluminium, the hard-top solution adopted for the 458 Spider offers a number of advantages over the traditional folding soft-top, including a reduction of 25 kg in weight and a deployment time of just 14 seconds. Fully integrated into the styling of the car, the hard-top was engineered to fit neatly ahead of the engine bay without compromising aerodynamics or the performance of the car. The small space needed to house the roof enables the designers to include a generous rear bench for luggage behind the seats.

The rear of the car is characterised by innovative forms with the buttresses designed to optimise the flow of air to the engine intakes and the clutch and gearbox oil radiators.

For maximum comfort whilst driving top down the 458 Spider features a generouslysized adjustable electric wind stop. The design was perfected to slow and diffuse the air in the cockpit, enabling normal conversation to be held even at speeds over 200 km/h.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera: Tradition meets modernity

Porsche Carrera und Carrera S 2011
At 48 the Porsche 911 Carrera is younger than ever: The completely redesigned generation of the sports car icon is stepping into the limelight with its flat, stretched silhouette, exciting contours and precisely designed details. Yet from the very first glance it remains unmistakably a 911. True to the 911 tradition, the distinctive Porsche design language with its tendons and muscles exudes power and elegance.

The 100 millimetre longer wheelbase and reduced height combined with the up to 20-inch wheels underpin the athletic appearance. At the same time, the compact sports car exterior dimensions were retained. From a front perspective, attention is drawn to the wide-arched wings, the 911’s trademark, that highlight the wider front track making the new 911 Carrera models sit even more solidly on the road. The remodelled exterior mirrors are accommodated on the upper edge of the door and not as before on the mirror triangle. Not only is this aerodynamically advantageous, it also emphasises the new design line and visual impression of width.

The all-new, lightweight body is an intelligent aluminium-steel construction. It is responsible for a significant proportion of the weight reduction of up to 45 kilograms combined with significantly greater rigidity. Due to aerodynamic optimisation measures, including a wider, variably extending rear spoiler, the lift of the new 911 Carrera could be further reduced, while retaining a good Cd value.

Porsche New 911 Carrera Interiors

To complement the modern exterior design, the Porsche designers created a new interior based on cues from the Porsche Carrera GT. The driver is now even more closely integrated with the cockpit thanks to the centre console rising up to the front with the high-mounted shift lever located especially close to the steering wheel in typical motor sport fashion. Like in the exterior design, classic Porsche elements can also be found in the interior: the instrument cluster with five round instruments of which one of them is a high resolution multifunction screen, the central rev counter and the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel.

Setting the standard in its class, as it has for generations, the new 911 Carrera and Carrera S raise the performance and efficiency bar yet another notch. All Porsche versions get by with significantly less than ten litres of fuel per 100 kilometres. Fuel consumption and emissions are up to 16 per cent lower compared to preceding models.

Among other things, this result is achieved by systems and functions such as auto start/stop, thermal management, electrical system recuperation, the world’s first seven-speed manual transmission and the so-called “sailing” function, in vehicles equipped with the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). The new electro-mechanical power steering offers not only Porsche’s typical precision and response but also helps to increase efficiency and reduces the general fuel consumption.

Porsche Carrera und Carrera S 2011

The 911 Carrera with the new 350 hp 3.4-litre boxer engine and optional PDK consumes a mere 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), 1.6 l/100 km less than its predecessor. Also, with an emission level of 194 g/km CO2, it is the first Porsche sports car to make it below the 200 g/km mark. The new Carrera S features a 3.8-litre boxer engine delivering 400 hp. Its fuel consumption when equipped with the optional PDK is reduced by 14 per cent (1.5 l/100 km) to 8.7 l/100 km, despite offering 15 hp more horse power. That equates to CO2 emissions of 205 g/km.

At the same time several performance improvements have been implemented for both models. The Carrera S with PDK manages to accelerate from nought to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Pressing the Sport Plus button of the optional Sport Chrono package, cuts that to 4.1 seconds. The Carrera with PDK needs only 4.6 seconds (Sport Plus: 4.4 seconds) to sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h.

The new 911 does not just offer better longitudinal dynamics but also a top performance at an unprecedented level in terms of transverse dynamics. In addition to the longer wheelbase, greater agility, precision and driving stability are mainly based on the wider front track, the new rear axle and the new electro-mechanical power steering.

Depending on the model, there are other standard or optional active control systems available that further enhance the vehicle’s driving dynamics, including the optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active roll stabilisation system which is available on the 911 Carrera S for the first time. The system reduces lateral inclination when cornering by ensuring that tyres are in an optimal position relative to the road surface and thus able to transmit higher lateral forces. As a result, maximum cornering speeds are increased; even faster lap times on racing circuits are possible.

Porsche Carrera und Carrera S 2011

With the new 911 Carrera the span of apparently contradictory attributes that have typified the Porsche 911, such as performance and efficiency, sportiness and everyday practicality has been even further extended. That makes the 911 Carrera more of a 911 than ever. The new model celebrates its world premiere at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show.

Ford India launches “The Fiesta Experience” campaign

The Fiesta Experience
The all-new Ford Fiesta, which was launched about a month ago in India, Ford India is now launching its new innovative campaign “The Fiesta Experience”. The Fiesta Experience brought real people and their experiences to the forefront.

By focusing directly on engagement of real people and their experiences, Ford India has ventured to build an instant connect with the audience in this novel campaign. Bringing a whole new feel to consumer advertising, “The Fiesta Experience,” showcases four real people exploring and experiencing the product differentiators in the All-New Fiesta, which has features not found even in luxury cars in higher segments.

The campaign also takes the All-New global Fiesta across other channels after using digital as the lead-in medium for the launch. Commenting on the strategy, Nigel E Wark, executive director, Sales and Marketing for Ford India said, “We wanted to adopt an innovative approach with the All-New global Fiesta launch in India. By putting the customer at the heart of all our activities, the new Fiesta Experience campaign dials this up further with ‘real people’ and their ‘real experiences”.

“The All-New global Fiesta is packed with best-in-class and first-In-class features that are far ahead of the competition in its own segment, putting the Fiesta on par with or even ahead of cars in the segment above it. Much like its features, the real life characteristics of the advertising will not only stand distinct from the usual clutter but also add credibility to its appeal.” Wark added.

Designed around the All-New global Ford Fiesta, the campaign commercials highlight differentiators about the product through the experiences of four young and real people– interesting, articulate participants who got the opportunity to get behind the wheel in an amazing drive and have shared their candid impressions using social platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

Coming from different walks of life, the four participants featured in the campaign–Vikram Aditya Singh (Video Journalist), Monica Joon (Professional Sportsperson),Shruti Sharma (Travel Writer) and Archit Rakheja (Adventure Consultant)– were chosen to tell the story for being good conversationalists and their affinity to the target audience.

The campaign, compiles their experiences during the 10-day, 1310-km drive from Delhi to Diu, features participants experiencing the tech-tastic features and benefits of driving the All-New Fiesta. Through the series of real life incidents, the “The Fiesta Experience” highlights the segment first features like advanced Bluetooth voice control, cruise control, best-in-class fuel-efficiency and unmatched safety, features that are not found in luxury cars in higher-segments.

“By leveraging real people and their real experiences in our advertising, we are taking a very unconventional approach in the automobile industry. Knowing the pulse of the audience helps us learn something new every moment. And this honest, unbiased and direct reality check is kind of involvement that helps brand Ford position and connect with the consumers, said Anurag Mehrotra, vice president, Marketing for Ford India.

The campaign will go live from August 19 in leading publications and will be followed up with the 40 second television commercial to be broadcast on channels, in addition to a very focused digital and viral campaign humanizing the story. The campaign can also be followed on www.india.ford.com/allnewfiesta, www.drivingford.in and www.facebook.com/fordfiesta.

“Riding purely on positive word of mouth, we are proud to have built strong equity for the brand and set benchmarks,” Wark added.

The campaign follows Ford India recent breakthrough initiatives in building strong digital campaigns around its product offerings. To be able to spontaneously communicate with its customers, Ford India has been actively listening and talking on various social networks to keep its finger on the pulse of public sentiments.

Ford Figo Discover Smart Drive across India is one example of seamless integration, building real advocates in recent times. The new campaign takes this engagement to a new level. Reva NXR to be launched Next Year

Mahindra NXR
Mahindra and Mahindra, is contemplating to launch the Reva NXR electric car early next year. It’s been almost a year since Mahindra and Mahindra picked up major stake in the Reva electric car company.

We hear that the Reva NXR could be unveiled during the 2012 Indian Auto Expo early next year. Now that the things are in place, we expect Mahindra to pursue the commercial sales of the electric car in India on a large scale.

The Mahindra Reva NXR has been in the development stages for quite some time no and there has many sightings of the test mule doing rounds in and around Bangalore. The NXR is a very strategic model in Mahindra’s portfolio and is tipped to replace the current Revai. The Revai, though has been a car that is easy to drive and frugal, it is not a practical car and it can seat only two adults comfortably. Besides, the Revai has a limited range of 80 kilometers on a single charge and is not suitable for long journeys.

These are the shortcomings on which Mahindra is working and a couple more seats have been added in the NXR to seat four adults comfortably. The Reva NXR, essentially remains a two door model but the major enhancement is in the range of the car, which now has increased two-fold to 160 kms, thanks to the improvement in the lead acid batteries. The Reva NXR with a top speed of 104 kmph is sporty in comparison with the older version of the car.

The design of the NXR is quite contemporary when compared to the boxy Revai. The price, which breaks or makes the car is what we have to watch out for. Tentatively, Mahindra might price around Rs 4.5 – Rs 5 lakhs for the NXR.

Maruti Suzuki New Swift garners 40K plus bookings

New Swift
Another fifteen more days of wait and the new Suzuki Swift will hit the Indian roads. However, the big question is will Maruti Suzuki dish out all those 40,000 plus bookings received for the New Swift in the speculated period.

Yes, you read the numbers right. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift has already garnered the best pre-launch booking numbers, which other carmakers can only dream off. This might contrast with the bad month Maruti Suzuki had in July 2011, thanks to the falling sales and workers strike at the Manesar plant.

What remains to be seen is how the New Swift will be priced in India. If priced sanely, the New Maruti Swift might as well outclass the Maruti Wagon R and move to the second place behind the Maruti Alto provided the production be matched with demand. This also could be a possibility as Maruti Suzuki is planning to up the Swift production to 18,000 units a month.

New-Suzuki-Swift rear

Since its launch, the Swift has ruled the premium hatchback segment and has captured about 24 percent of the market share.

We presume that the new Swift will be dearer by Rs 30,000-50,000 than the old Swift. However, that would not be much of a difference as the new Swift makes up for what the old Swift lacked. Primarily, the new Swift promises loads of space coupled with fuel efficiency, which is better than the old Swift. Secondly, the new Swift has been loaded with gadgets that are drool worthy.
