Mercedes Benz unveiled the 2012 Mercedes C-Class, India on the radar?

The 2012 Mercedes Benz C-Class is here and how? The restyled 2012 C-Class sedan is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in the summer of 2011. The front and rear end of the popular Mercedes sedan have been enhanced with a more distinctive design.

The luxurious interior is now emphasized by the stylish new dashboard, which features a premium, fine-grain finish and stylish trim elements, as well as a high-resolution color display in the instrument cluster. Fuel economy has been improved by as much as 15 percent, thanks to new direct-injection engines and the redesigned 7-speed automatic transmission. Five new driver assistance systems ranging from the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system through to the Blind Spot Assist are now available in the C-Class lineup. New generation telematics offer new infotainment and navigation features.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

“In terms of driveline and safety systems, the new-generation C-Class offers the comfort and safety of our luxury vehicles – and with many high-end details in the interior evocative of the new CLS, the new C-Class sets completely new benchmarks in its segment when it comes to premium look-and-feel,” says Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. This interior upgrade is further enhanced by the latest generation of telematics, which not only features completely new visuals, but also brings improved functionality.

A total of more than 2,000 new parts distinguish the newest generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class from its predecessor. The U.S. market introduction is scheduled for summer 2011 (available to order in Europe as of January 2011). Alongside the generous standard equipment, the Sport and Luxury versions of the new C-Class form the basis of the individualization program, with both lines now more clearly differentiated from each other.

The C-Class is Mercedes-Benz’s highest volume model range, and therefore especially important. The current range has chalked up global sales of more than one million units since its launch in March 2007. Since the market introduction of the first C-Class in 1982 (known then as the 190), Mercedes-Benz has sold more than 8.5 million vehicles around the world.

Dynamic, determined and confident exterior

The bumper now has a more distinctive and dynamic design, with the front end adopting the brand’s new design language. The central element of the front end is the grille, which is further enhanced by the new bumper design. The center air intake opens upward in a v-shape and forms the core element of the grille design. Distinctive lines emerge from the base of the aggressive arrow design in the center. Running beneath the headlamps, these character lines transition into the side profile. The outboard air intakes in the bumper are positioned very low down to give the car a more muscular stance.

The C-Class features a new aluminum hood, which contributes to weight reduction and consequently to improved fuel efficiency. Contours around the headlamps and grille bring additional emphasis to the front-end arrow form. Working together with the redesigned headlamps, the overall front-end look is far more distinctive.

Modified clear glass headlamps create a more dynamic and determined look and, together with the hood, grille and bumper enhance the arrow visual at the front end. This precise, contemporary look is reinforced by the design of both the exterior and interior of the headlamp units, which feature a finely balanced interplay between matte and gloss surfaces. The halogen headlamps follow the classic format with low beam located on the outside and high beam in the inside, while the indicator lamps are discreetly positioned in the outer corners toward the fenders.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The available bi-xenon headlamps come with active functions and bring added depth to the appearance with a series of LED modules. A C-shaped positioning light defines the nighttime design, with cornering lights located behind it and stretching outward to the main lamp module. At the base of the headlamps are broad horizontal LED indicator units. Also horizontal are the LED daytime running lights located in the bumper, which make the C-Class unmistakable from a distance.

On the rear bumper, the character lines and shutlines have been modified to add emphasis to the vehicle’s stance. This is especially evident in the steep rise of the character line running outward toward the rear lights. A continuous character line on the upper edge of the rear bumper runs into the fenders of the C-Class to provide a connection to the sides and emphasizes the sporty character of the rear view. A new one-piece jewel case on the tail lights provides further integration into the rear of the vehicle. The characteristic sinuous surface line is now reflected on the inside of the lights and is reminiscent of earlier models. The distinctive depth of the lights are achieved by LED indicators located in the center that appear to float in front of the more deeply set red LED bands above and below. The rear light pattern is particularly distinctive at night.

The bodyshell of the new C-Class is distinguished by its outstanding aerodynamics. With a cd figure of 0.26, not only is it best-in-class, its drag plane of cd x A = 0.57 m2 also cuts more smoothly through the air than most compact and even sub-compact cars.

Premium and sporty interior

One focal point of the work done in the interior was the redesign of the dashboard with the aim of creating a powerful, sporty and premium look-and-feel that includes extensive enhancement to the trim. The surfaces of the controls are more finely detailed and feature a metallic finish. The stepped hood of the instrument binnacle now extends to incorporate the central display and runs onward into the passenger side enhanced by a subtle character line. The central, trapezoidal air vents and the outer circular vents are accentuated with metallic trim elements. Central to the design of the new dashboard is a prominent trim panel. This element stretches from the central air vents along the passenger side to the outer air vent, adding visual width to the interior. The surface grain on the top portion of the dashboard continues along the upper edges of the door panels.

The new-generation center console is distinguished by its rectangular silver keys and emphasizes the premium feel of the interior in combination with matte keys, high-gloss surfaces and a new knurled control knob. Together with the new generation telematics, the restyled C-Class also receives a new instrument binnacle with integrated display. Oriented toward the driver are three tubular gauge surrounds with metallic surfaces that further enhance the aggressive character of the C-Class.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The luxury feel is emphasized by the new-generation leather steering wheel introduced with the all-new CLS and now available as standard in the C-Class. The steering wheel features a chrome-plated central spoke and further accentuates the car’s stylish and sporty ambience.

The new C250 Sport and C300 4MATIC Sport models come with standard brushed aluminum trim, while the C350 Sport has distinctive Black Ash. The Luxury versions feature Burl Walnut trim.

Drivelines with more power and better fuel economy

Fuel economy has been improved by up to 15 percent. All new direct-injection versions feature exceptional efficiency and environmentally-friendly fuel consumption. All models also come with the redesigned seven-speed automatic transmission, with the gear ratios on all versions optimized for fuel economy.

The highlight in the engine lineup is the introduction of the new V6 gasoline engine in the C350 Sport Sedan, featuring the innovative and highly efficient BlueDIRECT process. The improvement in efficiency is combined with a considerable increase in output. The C350 Sport Sedan now generates 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque (previously 268 hp and 258 lb-ft), while fuel economy has been improved by 5 percent compared with the outgoing C350 model.

The four-cylinder engine (new for the U.S. market) features direct injection and turbocharging and is also distinguished by outstanding combined fuel economy of 24 mpg. This marks an improvement of nearly 15 percent compared with the 2011MY C300.

New driver assistance systems

The C-Class attains an all-new level of safety with a total of five new driver assistance systems ranging from ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection through to Blind Spot Assist. The assistance systems are based on state-of-the-art radar, camera and sensor technology and are setup to react to frequent causes of accidents such as proximity to the vehicle in front, fatigue and darkness.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The following provides an overview of the new assistance systems:
• ATTENTION ASSIST
• Adaptive Highbeam Assist
• Park Assist incl. PARKTRONIC
• Lane Keeping Assist
• Blind Spot Assist

More user friendly, improved connectivity – the new generation of telematics

The new C-Class sees the debut of a new generation of telematics, which is scheduled for successive introduction across further model ranges. Key new features include improved user-friendliness with larger 3-D displays, phone book transfer, text message display, wireless music via Bluetooth and a USB interface now located in the center armrest.

Fiat India’s Alto Competitor in line?

Fiat-India-Small-Car_1
The Small car mania in India that started with the humble Maruti 800 does not seem to subside. On the contrary, the mania seems to grow as strong as ever and standing testimony to the fact is the growing number of car makers in India who are trying to bring in their own version of the small car to bank on the small car crazed Indians.

We have read reports on how Maruti Suzukiwill be bringing another sub-compact car in the already present Alto category by 2012 and Hyundai planning to launch a sub-Santro car in the market soon. It now seems mandatory to have sub compact cars in the car makers portfolio to make it large in the Indian market.

Fiat has now joined the bandwagon to bring out an entry-level small car to compete with Maruti Suzuki Alto in 2012. Speaking about the entry-level Fiat small car, Mr. Rajeev Kapoor, top boss of Fiat India recently said, “It will be an all-new car, nothing to do with any of our other models and will be priced aggressively. It will compete with the Alto and will have a one-litre engine. The new car will be an India-specific one, made in India, made for India, keeping in mind the country’s unique terrain and temperatures. Our R&D team is working day in and day out to develop the car that meets consumers’ needs in the best manner. The small car market in India is blazing and there is intense competition. The entry level car space excites us.”

We assume that the above-mentioned Fiat entry-level small car probably might borrow design cues from the new Uno, Punto and Panda. We presume Fiat might plonk in a 900 cc Twin Air petrol motor under the hood or might as well come out with other engine options such as 1L or 1.2 L petrol engines and the very indigenous tried and tested 1.3 multi-jet diesel engines.

Fiat-India-Small-Car_2

Now that Fiat India has come out in open about its Alto-territory invasion plans, lets all hope that Fiat gears up for the small car battle with adequate firepower.

Good News: Nissan to Make Micra More Affordable

Nissan_Micra_India

Nissan launched the Micra to grab a foothold in the volume segment of the Indian car market. And it even became successful in doing so. But now, it seems that the car maker wants re-position its hatchback Micra in the voluminous A2 segment.

The story goes like this: last month a team senior Japanese cost engineers visited India to hold discussions with vendors to cut costs of its components. The team was led by Takeshi Kawai of the cost engineering department of Nissan Motor. And an industry source says that the visit was to take a look at the engineering aspects of the car and bring down the costs.

“The last six months has witnessed several new car launches. Nissan is an important player in the market and realises that cost advantage could make the difference,” he said.

The base price of the Nissan Micra starts at 3.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 5.29 lakh. And since its launch in July this year, the Japanese carmaker has sold 5,000 units in the domestic market with exports totaling over 9,000 since October 2010.

“The company is also looking to make the car more adaptable for the Indian roads. The visit by engineers also focused on quality,” he added. When contacted a Nissan India spokesperson denied any such plans.

Currently Nissan manufactures the Micra at the company’s Chennai facility which it shares with its French partner Renault. The two have spent close to Rs 4,500 crore on this plant, which has an annual capacity of four lakh units.

jaguar_logo_XF
Jaguar which has seen a lot of ups and downs over the years is on a roll now since Tata Motors took over the ailing brand along with Land Rover. Now that Tata is at the helm of affairs, both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands have seen an uphill revival.

After Land Rover came out with its radical yet modern Evoque concept, which has already hit the production lines, it is the turn of Jaguar to do some unthinkable things. It seems like Jaguar is taking the Porsche route to success. After creating cars that has been appreciated and revered by critics and fans alike, Jaguar is now planning to come out with its own SUV. How cool is that?

According to Autocar, Jaguar is considering adding an SUV model to its lineup and the model may soon get the green light for production. The news gets wings in the form of a comment that was quoted in the British car magazine. Jaguar’s new global brand Chief Adrian Hallmark in an interview with Autocar had said, “We need a crossover and we need to stop being a saloon-based [sedan] company.”

Hallmark also said that the company needed to develop all-wheel drive saloon/sedans in order to appeal to more consumers, particularly in the regions of the East Coast in America and parts of Europe.

The Jaguar boss added that the British automaker would be building lightweight vehicles, hinting at the use of aluminum in the construction of Jaguar models. Hallmark said that lightweight cars would be part of the company’s “future DNA.”

Lamborghini Singapore pre-orders 50 units of LP700-4

2012-lamborghini-aventadow
Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, the latest car from the house of Lamborghini is already a hit even before its actual launch. Even before the car could be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini organised a private viewing of the pre-production Aventador LP700-4 in Singapore. And guess what? Not only did the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 receive a tremendous ovation, but also is rumoured to have garnered more than 50 bookings already.

Allow us to tell you the whole story. Singapore, the small island nation has been patron of Lamborghini for long now. The association of Lamborghini in Singapore began with the Murcielago and Gallardo, the ties with the Italian firm have grown stronger by the years, and now Singapore has become an important and strategic market for Lamborghini. This explains Lamborghini’s decision to fly a pre-production unit of the Aventador to be privately previewed before the Lamborghini customers.

According to Melvin Goh, chief of Lamborghini Singapore, the interest in the Aventador comes because of the brand’s growing appeal and improved image and visibility in the Asian market. “In the last five years since the arrival of the Murcielago and Gallardo, people now understand the cars better and realize the products are good,” he said. “On that note, they are willing to book one even when it’s new and before it is here.”

While no exact figures have been released, it is widely believed that Lamborghini Singapore alone is poised to receive around 50 units of the new super-car, making it one of the very first countries to reserve the Aventador LP700-4 months in advance of its official release.

New Audi A8 to be Launched in India on January 10th 2011

Audi-A8-W12-1
In the Indian market, while BMW and Mercedes Benz have been reigning over the luxury car segment, Audi has been keeping a rather low profile. But, not anymore. Audi is all ready with the launch of the 2011 Audi A8 L set for the 10th January 2011. Months ago when we wrote about the 2011 Audi A8 L, we explained in detail the exclusive features of the luxurious car.

The 2011 Audi A8 L will be in direct competition with the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes Benz S Class, but it will have to sweat a lot to establish itself because the Merc and Beemer are already established luxury brands that the rich and famous of India love to cruise around in. But it is high time that Audi proved its mettle in the Indian market and gave BMW and Mercedes a taste of its own snootiness.

The Audi A8 will come with two engine options. Those who want frugality, can opt for the 3.0 V6 TDI Diesel while people who would choose luxury over anything else, there is very sweet 4.2 V8 TSI Petrol. Yes, that is a turbo petrol engine and one of the very best that the company has to offer.

But the 2011 Audi A8 is not something that would give you a chance to flaunt your shove and twist abilities on the road. It is best for the people who want backseat luxury. People who are used to travelling in airline first class seat will take to the Audi A8 L’s cavernous rear like ducks to water. There are two power-adjustable and heated individual seats as an option for the rear, which can be paired with the optional continuous, elegantly-styled centre console with large storage compartments. And the two individual seats can also be strapped with optional ventilation and massage functions.

Audi-A8-W12-3

The Audi A8 L also brings a number of multimedia modules, such as a high-end sound system from Bang & Olufsen and advanced online services. In fact, this is the first car in the world to come with an integrated WLAN hotspot. A UMTS module provides the connection to the Internet. A four-zone automatic climate control system enhanced the luxurious feel inside the car. And the multimedia interface includes a pioneering innovation, apart from the optional MMI navigation plus navigation system, it also has a touchpad.

The Audi A8 L interiors would probably remind you of a Bentley, but the latter would probably disrobe you in the process of the purchase, while the Audi A8 L would leave you with just enough for the fuel.

Key Specifications of Audi A8 L
