Back in June we knew that the Mercedes-Benz R-Class was out of this world. But, back then, we weren’t sure if the new car was coming to India. We now have the good news. We hear that the car is due for a grand entry into the country this Diwali. Yes folks, Mercedes-Benz will be making the R-Class premium MPV available in India. So, we believe a new class altogether is gonna get created in India and that begins with the introduction of the R-Class.
The new-generation R-Class made its global debut at this year’s New York International Motor Show, and undoubtedly, the luxury auto maker was gauging customer response. It was good, and we have the car scheduled to enter our country too.
The R-Class premiered in 2006 and has since then undergone upgrades from time to time. We hear that India will receive the latest version of the luxury MPV priced at Rs. 60 Lakh ex-showroom. Well, if you’re interested in one, you can book it right away as bookings have already begun at Mercedes dealerships across India.
Initially, just one variant of the new luxury car will be introduced in India, the Long Wheel Base R350 4MATIC. The car sports a powerful 3498 cc V6 petrol engine that throws away 272 bhp at 6000 rpm and 350 Nm at 2400 rpm. Unfortunately, we may not have a diesel R-Class in India. The V6 is mated with Mercedes’ latest 7G-Tronic auto transmission that has a Direct Select lever on the steering column and shift paddles on the steering wheel. The car can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kmph in just about 8.4 seconds and can touch peak speed of 230 kmph.
Dazzling bi-xenon headlamps will be responsible for illuminating the front fascia as well as the dark path while driving in the night. Steel spring suspension in front and AIRmatic (Adaptive Intelligent Ride control) system featuring self-levelling air suspension in the rear have been put to task to enhance comfort and driving dynamics.
As for the interiors, the new Mercedes-Benz car features two-tone leather interiors that simply exemplify the car’s lavishness. The tilt and telescopic steering wheel too comes covered in leather. The dual-zone automatic climate control and the choice of high gloss wood trims add a cosy touch. Also, the interiors are so comfy and flexible that accommodation in different seating combinations can easily be arranged for seven adults. The all-wheel-drive automatic car offers a real-time demo of flexibility each time its seats fold to reveal a 2,385-litre storage space.
For in-car entertainment, the Mercedes-Benz R-Class features a command system with an in-dash six-disc CD/DVD changer. That’s not all. There’s an eight-inch screen with complete potential of offering optimum amusement for the rear passengers. The R-Class also features a DVD player and wireless speakers. So, wanna buy the king of luxury this Diwali?
