The New K-Series Alto at IIMS 2010

Alto_K_Series_3 What a pity! Everything seemed fine till the other day. How we feasted our eyes on the spy pics of the new Alto K10! Getting our hands on something leaked rather than having the info and pics rightfully through the right source does give some unexplainable naughty pleasure. The joy has all vanished with the Indonesians getting to see the actual marvel even before us.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is due for a launch in India next month. But, the car maker opted to showcase the car at the 18th Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS 2010) opened on the 24th of this month. Never mind! The company must be displaying it with the idea of a prospective launch in the Indonesian market.

Along with the new Alto, Suzuki has also displayed the R3 MPV, Kizashi and a Swift GT3 car with a 1.5-liter petrol engine. Whoa! IIMS 2010 is trying to convey the message of “Eco-Technology Motoring” and we hear that the space has been fully covered with cars and concept cars pouring out the theme of eco-friendliness in every possible way.

The new K-Series Alto exhibited at the auto show has been strapped with CVT. However, we know that we would be getting the car in India with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1-litre K-Series engine is believed to be the same for both countries though.

So what if the Indonesians got to see it first? We are just a few days away from seeing the real car ourselves. Moreover, we already know how it’s gonna look, its features and almost everything else that we wanted to know. The car will give an incredible mileage of 20.2 kmpl!

The new Alto is 125 mm longer than the older version making it more spacious than its kinfolks in the B segment like the Estilo and the A-Star. It has been bestowed with a new headlamp design and also a redesigned bumper with fog lamps. The grille has grown wider with a thin chrome strip on top to give it an exclusive look.

As we had earlier said, the new Alto has been aimed at decoying the first-time car buyer in India. However, you needn’t be a first-time car buyer; the new car will perfectly suit your needs even in case you are looking for that ‘something extra’ in the entry mid-size segment. The pricing is one important piece of news we are waiting to hear. As of now, the K10 is believed to come in the Rs 2.8-3.4 Lakh range.
