The Range Rover Evoque is on a grand tour of the world. Tata Motors has unleashed more than hundred prototypes of its latest product Range Evoque with an intention to carry out the most stringent pre-launch tests across the globe.
Tata Motors wants to launch the Evoque in 2011 as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the British marquee brand, Land Rover. When the production of starts at the Halewood facility, Britain, it would generate more than 1,000 jobs.
In another 72 days, the Evoque will be launched officially at the Paris Motor Show. And guess what, the Evoque has already created quite a buzz in the market. Over 10,000 people have shown interest since the first images of the car was release by the company about a week ago.
A selected group of engineers will take the Evoques to 20 countries, right from the freezing Atlantic to the scorching deserts. While the Evoque will get a taste of traffic in Tokyo city, it will unleash its speed power at the German Autobahn.
Land Rover Director (Programmes) Murray Dietsch, “The development stage is crucial in the year leading up to launching the car… No stone is left unturned, we have a team of experienced and skilled engineers who will work to a tight schedule to ensure (that) we have a top quality vehicle to offer our customers.”
The Range Rover Evoque was recently unveiled by pop star wife of footballer David Beckham, Victoria Beckham. Victoria has been brought in to turn the mini-off-roader into a fashion icon to attract the younger generation.
Victoria has her own fashion brand and she seems glad to be associated with the project. Victoria revealed that she was requested to design the interior of the new Range Rover Evoque.
Land Rover has based the new Evoque on the ‘LRX’ prototype, and is being built with the help of a £27million taxpayer grant. With CO2 emissions as low as 130g/km, the new Range Rover would be lightest and most fuel-efficient vehicle in the series. The company hopes to lure new group of buyers who may not have considered buying a Rover before.
Land Rover design director Gerry McGovern said, “In 2008 we introduced the LRX concept car. After a positive reception worldwide, the natural step for the business was to turn the LRX concept car into reality. Tonight we wanted to show the world that we have stayed true to our word and delivered a car that completely represents the spirit of the LRX concept.”
The vehicle will be sold in 160 countries and considering the present scenario of the Indian market, Land Rover would certainly bring it here.
