The Mercedes SLS launched in India just the other day, and today, we have something more to reveal about the luxury car maker. Somehow, Mercedes’ secrets do not remain as secrets for too long. Their car images get leaked too easily. Recently a visitor to the company’s headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, spotted a 2011 CLS sedan. And lo! We have the details with us.
The current CLS-Class possesses the strong, emotive charisma of a coupe while offering the comfort and practicality of a sedan. Just like the current model, the car that was spied too looked like a sporty coupe, but was wrapped in a sedan body. To capture the image of a car so beautiful, with the C-pillar flowing into the trunk area, it must have been such a delight! The short window openings, bordered by the chrome trim, still hold on to the coupe theme.
Making the car look even more sophisticated is a chrome strip around its lower waist. With plenty of new features, the car gets an updated look. On the whole, the car’s character appears sportier than the rounded lines we have been seeing on the latest Mercedes models. The all-new front grille is much more upright than the present one and offers a larger cooling area.
The 2011 CLS-Class seems to have lost weight compared to its predecessor. Then there’s LED lighting everywhere that brightens the car. The headlights come in a new design and the taillights appear to be coming closer. The interiors are sufficiently spacious. Finished in leather and wood, the panel appeared to be the same as the current CLS-Class.
To get details about the powertrain options, we would have to wait a while. Will the new car sport engine options as the current model? A 3.0-liter V6 motor comes standard with the current CLS 350 and a 5.0L V8 engine comes standard with the CLS 500. While the V6 churns out 272 bhp, the 5.0L V8 eight-cylinder unit generates 306 bhp. The CLS 63 AMG draws power from an AMG 6.2-litre V8 motor that spews out 514 bhp. Will any of these find a place in the new model?
The current CLS-Class comes strapped with a 7-speed automatic transmission, 7G-TRONIC, as standard. Mercedes had claimed that the CLS-Class was the world’s first passenger car with a transmission of that type that contributed enormously to the car’s strong acceleration and awesome fuel consumption. So, will the car maker fit in the same transmission in the new model, or, will it enhance the same?
According to Mercedes, the CLS 350 six-cylinder Coupe climbs from 0 to 100 km in 7.0 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 250 km. The CLS-Class V8 Coupe and the CLS 63 AMG can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers in 6.1 seconds and the CLS 63 AMG can reach a top speed of 250 km/h. Now, we can expect the new luxury car to perform better, can’t we?
