Well, July will bring to us a number of new car launches, but the most high profile of them would definitely be the new Porsche Cayenne 2011. Yes, the second half of this month would be a joyous time when the 2011 version of the Porsche Cayenne arrives in India in all its new glory. And guess what, the new Cayenne will come in five engine variants. Even though Cayenne is one of the best selling SUV from the Porsche brand, people have often complained about the looks of the SUV. Well, the new version will silence all of them.
A refreshed front end and a more chiselled body now makes the new Cayenne look much like its well designed family members. Post the revision, the new Cayenne 2011 has turned to be more spacious and larger. And even though the dimensions have increased, there is a significant weight loss of 200kgs. The new SUV is about 48mm longer than the former one, but manages to look more compact, thanks to its well sculpted body. Cayenne now looks much more refined and less aggressive than the original.
The Porsche Cayenne 2011 will arrive in India in a number of engine options. Starting with a 3.6 litre V6 that produces a potent 300 bhp, you also get a V6 diesel engine that produces a maximum of 240 bhp. Joining the new Cayenne gang will be a hybrid version for all the environment lovers in India. The Hybrid Cayenne, which is based on the V6 petrol engine, will thrill with its 380 bhp on the speed dials.
And now the more exciting part of the story – Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo. Porsche Cayenne S, which is powered by naturally aspirated motor, churns out a staggering 400 bhp, while the turbocharged Cayenne will drive proudly with 500 bhp on the tarmac. A new eight-speed tiptronic gearbox replaces the old six-speed unit.
The Porsche Cayenne 2011 was unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Porsche had launched the first generation Cayenne in 2002 and since then, has sold more than 2,70,000 units of the luxury SUV. Porsche would assemble the Cayennes in India in small volumes, and would likely utilise the Volkswagen plant for the assembly. We have also heard from some reliable sources that, Porsche may assemble the Cayenne in India. And if that happens, the price of the SUV would tumble down significantly.
The Porsche Cayenne would be available in India at a price tag of Rs. 65 lakhs and the top end would be available at Rs. 1.27 crores. Worth a deal, isn’t it!
