Have you heard of Toyota’s latest diesel car, the Corolla Diesel? Wondering what is so special about the vehicle? The car possesses magical power under its bonnet. The engine is going to deliver a miraculous mileage of 21.42 kmpl. We aren’t faking. ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) has certified the mileage figure. The new car is most likely to come out with a 1.4 liter diesel engine.
The power-packed 1,364 cc diesel engine can shake up 89 bhp at 3800 rpm and an impressive maximum torque of 205 Nm at a relatively low 2800 rpm. Do not be too sad that you may not be able to go faster than a Skoda Laura TSi driver. Just have a look at the torque figures once again. You will certainly be able to rush ahead of the traffic on the awfully crowded city roads. These figures will let you luxuriously lounge in the comfy rear seat of your Corolla Diesel. That’s not all. You can go twice as far as the one in that Skoda Laura. You will not have to worry about visiting the fuel pump as often as the rest.
Is the 1.4 D-4D common rail turbo diesel really that great? The Spanish variant of the Toyota Corolla Altis already has the same engine. That diesel motor delivers a fuel efficiency of 21.73 kmpl. Thank God! We can now be sure that the new Indian version of the car may also deliver something close to that mileage. The ARAI claimed 21.42 kmpl for the Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel is definitely achievable.
Indians always want their cars to move faster. At times or for some, economy may come only next in line after speed. The number of those who would love to see the 2-liter, turbocharged, intercooled D-4D diesel engine from the Toyota Innova adorning the Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel’s engine bay may be high. However, there are a few problems. First of all, a bigger engine would mean more cost. Secondly, the 2-liter D-4D demands the addition of an intercooler to keep the vehicle environmentally friendly or BS IV compliant. So, that will further increase the cost of the Toyota Corolla Altis. The very quiet and refined 1.4 Liter D-4D in the Corolla Altis Diesel will therefore be a lot better.
The current petrol variant of the Toyota Corolla Altis sports a 1.8-litre petrol that comes with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i). The engine dispenses 130 bhp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 170 Nm at 4200 rpm. Toyota’s VVT-i technology optimizes valve timing by regulating air intake and exhaust timings to deliver potent torque at low and mid-range engine rotations. The engine computes the throttle demand and produces considerable torque during passing, cruising, and idling, keeping the fuel consumption nominal. The VVT-i technology allows for extra smooth acceleration and makes driving the Altis extremely enjoyable. The new diesel variant is surely going to give a much enhanced performance.
