Well, this does not require any build-up. So, let’s just get on with it. Audi has launched the limited-production version of its R8 high-performance sports car, the Audi R8 GT. The new sports car is much lighter, powerful and faster. The German car manufacturer took the car on a diet and the result is a car that is about 100 kgs lighter than its predecessor, R8 V10.
The same V10 FSI engine is featured in the new R8 GT which is hyper tuned. Whacking a top speed of 320 kmph, the car cruises to the 100 kmph mark in just 3.6seconds. The new car, thanks to the low weight, brings an extra 35 bhp and 10 Nm. The engine is paired with an R tronic sequential manual transmission. The R8 GT can give a fuel efficiency of 13.7 litres of fuel per 100 km, which can be considered excellent considering the power of the car. The car also features Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
Most of the car components are fitted with light weight carbon fibre. The windshield is made thinner glass, the bulkhead between the passenger cell and engine compartment, as well as the window in the rear hatch are made of strong, lightweight polycarbonate. The long rear hatch is made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), as are the rear bumpers and sideblades.
The exterior has undergone massive modifications too. Most of the changes brought about to reduce the weight and enhance the aerodynamics. The Audi R8 GT has got standard LED headlights, which produce bright, homogeneous light, have long service life and low energy consumption. The Audi R8 GT is offered in a choice of four body colours: Samoa Orange metallic, Suzuka Gray metallic, Ice Silver metallic and Phantom Black pearl effect.
The Audi R8 GT has got a host of interior features and equipment including automatic climate control system and power windows, a navigation system with MMI operating logic and a powerful sound system. A 465 watt, ten-channel Bang & Olufsen sound system, a CD changer and the Audi Music Interface are available as options.
The Audi R8 GT will be sold across Germany for a price tag of €193,000 R8 GT. But with all the features that this car comes with, it might not be a very huge amount. Besides, car maniacs who have got deep pockets would surely want to adorn their garage with the Audi R8 GT.
Audi is manufacturing the sports car in limited numbers, only 333. So if you wanted to buy this car, you will need some luck along with big bucks.
