Mercedes Owners…in Lungi and Chappals?

2010_Mercedes_E-Class Next time you spot a person in a lungi or chappals, don’t just assume that he might belong from one of those remote villages in India where they hardly have any idea about fashion, luxury or even luxury cars. For all you know, he might own or be a prospective buyer for one of them Mercedes Benz! Yes, looks can be very deceiving.

India is experiencing massive wealth generation and Indians are not shying away from showing it off. Only some people have more austere ideologies when it comes to their personal style of clothing, but not so when you are talking about car. A top official from Mercedes was heard saying that anyone wearing plain clothes and chappals can own a Mercedes Benz these days.

Wilfried Aulbur, the auto company’s managing director, stated that there is no certain way one could categorise a person from his outward appearance as a potential Mercedes customer.

“In India, people wearing plain white shirt and pant or lungi and chappals can buy the car (Mercedes Benz),” Aulbur told reporters, while inaugurating a dealership near Panaji.

Aulbur also mentioned that smaller cities in India like Aurangabad, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur and Panaji would be the upcoming frontier for the luxury car manufacturers.

“We are looking at a 25 per cent growth in these cities. There is a massive wealth generation happening in India,” he added.

Just last week we reported that 115 units of different models of Mercedes were booked on a single day. And that did not happen in one of the Indian metros which would boast of having the richer than rich industrialists. It happened in Aurangabad, which is a small city in Maharashtra. Surprising, but true.

Citing the event that took Aurangabad by storms, Aulbur said the particular city sets a classic example of the changing and expensive lifestyle of smaller cities in India.

Lungi “There is an order for 125 Mercedes Benz cars in Aurangabad. This shows the importance of such cities to us.”

Goa already has around 250 Mercedes cars running on its streets and that despite the fact that Goa did not have a full-fledged dealership until now. The new dealership inaugurated in Panaji is sure to change the scene there.

  1. Thats funny. But we can never gauze the size of a pocket by seeing the clothes a person wears

  2. Can I just say what a relief to find somebody who really knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You actually know how to bring an problem to light and make it important. Far more folks must read this and understand this side with the story. I cant feel youre not a lot more well-known since you actually have the gift.
