Just about a couple of months ago, we brought you the story of Lamborghini’s gift of a Gallardo LP560-4 to the Italian State Police, equipped in full police regalia, for patrol duty on the highways and byways of central and southern Italy. Today, we bring you the news of its demise.Italian police have crashed their most valuable patrol car, a 165,000-euro (£150,000) Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The accident happened near the northern Italian town of Cremona where it was on display at a student jobs fair. The car was one of the two supercars which were donated to the Italian police by Lamborghini to keep up with speeding motorists driving other supercars.
The car struck a row of parked cars while being piloted through the streets of Cremona. Officially, the story is that the officer driving the Lamborghini swerved to avoid another car in the roadway that had cut it off. It was damaged beyond repair.
One of the two officers in the vehicle at the time of the incident suffered a broken rib and crushed vertebra but is expected to make a full recovery.
The six-speed luxury vehicle with a 500-horsepower engine is designed to go from zero to 100km/h (60mph) in four seconds. The car was tricked out in police-blue-and-white trim and equipped with a video surveillance camera, gun racks, GPS, organ transplant fridge (in the luggage compartment) and defibrillator.
