2010 Delhi Auto Expo To Be The Largest

Lots of excitement revolves around the upcoming Delhi Auto Show. This Auto Show is likely going to be the largest in the world.

“The 2010 Auto Expo will be bigger, brighter and better than the previous shows. The growing number of visitors indicates the rising importance of India as a key automobile destination,” says Pawan Goenka, the President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and Mahindra & Mahindra.

In 2009, 30 large auto shows were held around the world. The New York Auto show of April 2009 had 1.2 million visitors and the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show was witnessed by 600,000. But none of these Auto Shows can match the expected visitors for the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo. Nearly 1.8 million visitors are expected to this Auto Expo at New Delhi.

There are three reasons for this. First, India is a fast-growing market for cars and two-wheelers. Hence, the Delhi Auto Expo is the podium for both domestic and global companies to showcase their products. Secondly, India is a very important destination for global auto makers as India and China were the fastest to recover from the global recession, whereas most of the markets in the US and Europe are yet to witness a recovery. The third and the last reason is global companies believe that India is still a virgin market and showcasing a concept model gives tremendous mileage compared to other Auto Shows of the world. It should be noted that many car makers opted out of the Tokyo Motor Show in October.

As many as ten new car models will be displayed by various global car makers at the Auto Expo in January. This is a part of their strategy to nail themselves in the ever-growing Indian car market.

Car manufacturers such as Suzuki, Honda, Volkswagen and Toyota will be among those unveiling cars at the Auto Expo. This Auto Expo will have 2,100 participants from 30 countries.

Toyota will unveil its much-awaited small car Etios and its rival Honda will present its New Small Car Concept; while, the leader of the Indian car market, Maruti Suzuki will exhibit seventeen cars. Hyundai is expected to unveil the Santa FE SUV, i30 and i40 and Volkswagen will make its presence by flaunting the Polo. Chevrolet is also a sturdy contender in the ring with its Beat. It has been rumored that Nissan mad Ford will keep away from this big event.

This Auto Expo will be jointly organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), SIAM and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India.
