Tata Nano Passes Euro Crash Tests

New Tata Nano Cars in IndiaOur own Tata Nano has passed the hurdle it desperately wanted to gate crash into the European car markets. Tata Nano has come out in flying colours to meet the stringent European crash tests! The world’s cheapest car was driven at a speed of 56 km/h and passed 40 percent offset crash tests including the side impact tests.

Tata Motors is likely to start selling its small car Nano Europa in the European countries from 2012. Tata Motors carried out some inclusions in the test vehicle such as adding airbags and strengthened the front longitudinal structure. It also added another structure behind the bumper to absorb the impact of the crash gaining an increased weight of 18 kgs.

Tata Nano had earlier passed the crash test driven at 48km/h under the Indian norms. However, Indian guidelines do not specify airbags as mandatory, while this is an important safety feature in most of the developed economies. Owing to the stringent European vehicle norms, massive improvements were required in Nano Europa. Tata Motors had a huge task ahead of it to make the car acceptable to European countries.

By passing the crash test to meet the European standards, Tata Motors has demonstrated that it is certainly in a hurry to take the glory of Tata Nano to different places on earth. Since 2012 is three years away, Tata Motor didn’t necessarily have to take the test at this point in time. But by doing so Tata Motors has ensured that international critics are silenced.

International car experts have for long doubted and complained about Tata Nano’s crash worthiness. Tata Motors now aims to achieve the four stars rating under the tougher Euro NCAP tests.

It is a great achievement for Tata Nano to have passed the tough European safety norms. This enhanced Nano would be made available to European customers. As of today, Tata Motors has not clarified that if the improvements will be made available to Indian Nano cars. We hope that Tata Motors offers the enhancements as additions on the Tata Nano for people who are interested.

  2. Cool man! Who cold imagine that the world's cheapest car will pass stringent safety standards. It works as well as other costlier cars. so why do we need the costly cars. we can have Tata Nano car and high performance cars for people who like speed. Do away with the middle range of cars altogether. The world will be so much simpler with nano cars all around.
