Maruti Suzuki Plans for More Diesel Cars

After tasting success with the models diesel Dzire sedan and Swift hatchback, Maruti Suzuki wants to introduce diesel versions of its car models. It has also equipped the recently launched Ritz with a diesel engine.

It is observed that the demand for diesel cars has been increased considerably in recent times. For instance, the demand for the diesel version of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is relatively more than the petrol variant with waiting period of 3 to 5 months. Seeing this, Maruti plans to add more diesel cars in its credential. Taking a step towards the plan, Maruti Suzuki has raised its diesel engine capacity by 1 Lakh which will make an overall capacity of 3 Lakh by 2010. Currently, it is not been specified by the company how much the waiting period for the diesel model will be reduced with the expansion of the engine capacity. But surely this will help the company to meet the demand conveniently.

Its closest rival Tata Motor’s interest in diesel variant might be another reason for concentrating on diesel cars. Though both the car brands have major share in the Indian car market, they want to retain their positions by introducing the commanding car models.

  1. Clean diesel technology has attracted many buyers to its fold in the recent days. Maruti Suzuki can maintain its lead in the Indian market if its goes the diesel way. unfortunately for it, the biggest powertrain is a 1.3 litre engine, which set a limit to its performance. It needs to develop bigger engines.

  2. The diesel cars are in great demand. They are not only fuel efficient but also economical. It is good to know that the car manufacturer plans to add more diesel models to its stable.

  3. Earlier i was under the misconception that the diesel cars are very polluting But now i have overcome that and i recently purchased diesel version of Swift and i am glad that i made the right choice. In my opinion every car company should increase their diesel product line.

  4. I really don't understand one thing that when the car manufacturers know that the diesel cars are in lot demand then why don't the increase the production numbers. Recently my friend booked a Swift Dzire and he had to weight for nearly six months. It is good that Maruti is rolling out more diesel cars but hope the are able to meet the demands with minimal waiting period.
