Wait Longer for Honda Civic Hybrid

New Honda Civic Hybrid Cars in India

All those who are planning to buy the Honda Civic Hybrid will have to experience a longer waiting period as Honda has decided to hide the car beyond showrooms. It may sound shocking to many but this is the fact that the car will now be available only as a direct import through the company.

Now customers have to place an order directly to the company if they desire to buy the car and have to wait for 3-4 months to actually drive home the Honda Civic Hybrid.

Honda Civic Hybrid being India’s first hybrid car has created a big bang in the industry at the time of its launch in June 2008. The car runs on both petrol and battery giving a fuel economy of 21 km/L. Though the car gets the fame and attention for being first of its kind in the Indian car industry it fails to achieve good sales until an amazing discount of Rs 8 Lakh was announced. The reason behind this is the attached heavy price tag of Rs 21.5 Lakh with the car including a 104% import duty. Moreover, it did not receive any government’s support.

Very few people around the country were eager to pay such a high price and out of 300 cars only 65 were sold off in five months. But after the car price was slashed, the remaining pilled stock was cleared in just 10 days reflecting the actual cause of its unsuccessful ride on the Indian roads.

Experiencing all these Honda has now decided to stop retailing its hybrid car through its dealerships. Well, this may depress few of the prospective Civic Hybrid buyers but not much as they can still own the car with a few days of waiting period.

  1. That is a bad news. But I think the company had no other alternative. People do still not understand the worth of green and eco-friendly cars. Many people are dying of pollution but yet they are not ready to pay the high price of cars that can considerably reduce pollution.

  3. But I heard that the Civic Hybrid is really doing well in the market. when it was launched people were actually appreciating the efforts of Honda to introduce the first hybrid car in the country. Civic Hybrid is a great car when I think of increasing pollution.

  4. As far as pollution is the concern civic hybrid sure is a great car. But the fuel economy projected (20Kms/Ltr) is next to impossible to achieve on Indian highways with 4 passangers and 2 suitcases and max cruising speed 100 km/hr (the fuel economy is directly linked to the weight loaded). Yes the fuel economy may be appriciable in metro city driving. Another dissapointment- while buying the car we were told that the IMA bettery carries a warranty of 12 years. Later on realizing that this is nowhere mentioned in the warranty booklet i got back to the company and now they tell me its for 2+2 years.
