The year 2008 did not bring any good fortune to car manufacturers and has given them a tough time. Most of the car manufacturers have witnessed declined sales except few like the Hyundai Motors, Skoda India, Honda Siel India, and the General Motors.
Along with offering several discounts and freebies with the car models to attract car buyers, they are working on different strategies to bring back the sales figure to its normal position. Moreover, car manufactures are eyeing on the New Year as their lucky mascot.
If 2009 witnesses a lowered interest rates on auto loans and economy picks up assuring jobs and incomes, there are possibilities that the current melancholy in the industry would be wiped away bringing a smile to car manufactures.
Talking about the Indian car leader Maruti Suzuki, is badly affected by the recession registering a overall fall of 10 per cent in car sales in 2008. It is believed that the export contract for the new small car, A-star, with Nissan is a ray of hope for the company. If not drastic, the contract is expected to bring some difference for Maruti in terms of profit. Additionally, the sales of other Maruti models are also depend on how quickly the economy bounces back. Car models like the Swift, the Dzire, and the SX4 are however doing well in the market.
It is expected that the profit of Maruti Suzuki would increase by about 16 per cent on a lower base in 2009 and the same is heavily depends on the A-Star and exports.

Though Maruti Suzuki A-Star would be the lucky charm for Maruti but I dont think that Maruti's small car would ever be able to beat Hyundai i10. i10 is doing great in the market and I dont think that any small car can beat its success.
