Many people have a misconception that premium gasoline is better than regular gasoline. But that’s only a costly misconception.
The effectiveness of gasoline is judged on the octane ratings, defined as a measure of its knocking resistance. This rating checks the condition when fuel is burnt uncontrollably in the combustion chamber of the car engine. Knocking leads to engine damage.
Regular gasoline has an octane rating of about 87 whereas premium gasoline has a rating of 93. The higher the octane rating, the more resistance fuel provides. Using premium oil does not do any good in terms of performance or effectiveness. It’s only the price that misguides the car owners.
Most of the Indian car engines operate well on regular gas and even engines recommended to use premium engines can run fine on regular gas.
So, where does the need of premium gas come? No one would like to increase expenditure of fuel during this era of fuel prices hike and inflation.
There are some engines that require high compression ratio and can work only with premium gas.

The mixture of hydrocarbons, formerly used as a treatment against lice and also used as a cleaning fluid, is now the most costly liquid. The premium gasoline which many believe is better than regular is only a delusion. The additives work too harsh on engines and harm them. This is been a good information for me even I was using Premium Gasoline. Thanks for providing useful info. I used to think that may be by using premium I might be able to get good mileage on my vehicle. Anyway I think I have spent huge money for this premium petrol. Now I can think of filling my car with normal petrol. These stuffs many of us are not aware and spend huge money on such things and have misconception too.
Premium Gasoline can only do harm to your engine and burn your pocket. When most engines work smoothly on regular gasoline, Why go for high priced fuel, when the price of fuel is shooting up. Think thrice...
Hey I dint know this. Really was under a false impression on premium gasoline. I think many of my friends also feel that by using this gasoline it provides smoother performance and good mileage also. May be we all have shelled out so much money and I always fill my vehicle only with premium petrol. Hereafter I think I can save some money by using normal fuel.
