Nano Creating Trouble for North American Auto Industry

The outburst of Canadian Industry Minister Jim Prentice is an indication of the hurricane they expect with cheaper cars like Tata Nano. Dealers and contract manufacturers from these countries have already expressed interest in marketing these cars. Once in the country, the cars may overtake US made cars easily.

China and India have access to low cost labour and car components, which can significantly alter the cost of a car. This is precisely the reason why European and American car manufacturers like General Motors, BMW and Mercedes are setting up base in India.

However, when these company show profits, while clearly stating they are going for cost cutting, now hue and cry is raised. It is clearly a sign that the auto sector is moving east and the concerns of Indians and Chinese people will influence future cars. There may be a time when Tata and Maruti will loom larger than Ford and General Motors on the US horizon. The launch of Nano in these countries is being viewed as threat that will become a reality 25 years from now.

  1. Tata Nano again? I am totally frustrated about this car. This car is not yet launched but the name itself has buzzed me off.every day there will be something about it.

  2. It is true that media has created a hype about Nano.It is in news almost everyday for some or the other reason.I wonder what will aftereffects once the car is launched.

  3. The biggest earth shaker for the canadian minister was the tiny Tata Nano. The minister dreads the advent of small cars from China and Indian, while they have always sold big and fuel guzzling cars. It is high time that they saw the brighter side of small cars. These tiny cars can provide the same mobility as big cars.

  4. If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
