Hyundai Motors India has left no stones unturned to prove its cars fuel efficiency. The company recently organised, the Mileage Challenge Rally 2008 for Indian auto journalists.
The company had invited 30 journalists from Delhi, Mumbai and Pune to test drive Hyundai Verna variants and determine its fuel efficiency, drivability, handling and other aspects of the car. The mid-size car was available in both petrol and diesel versions. The participants were also ranked for achieving highest fuel economy. On an average, Verna diesel delivered a mileage of 33.57 kmpl. But when the results were scrutinized closely it was learnt that Petrol model delivered 25.88 kmpl.
The event also helped the journalists to discuss various aspects of cars with Hyundai experts and learn more about their technology.
Verna diesel has taken the limelight… this mid size car will be loved by the customer who looks for fuel economy with power… this female car as the name suggests is "Popular"!!!
I own a Verna and it is an average car. Till date it has not given me any trouble and the fuel efficiency is not that bad too.
Verna comes close to Fiesta. It is an impressive car with excellent driving and handling abilities. Even the average delivered by Petrol variant is impressive with 25.88 kmpl. I hope the same average is maintained through all roads in India.
Hyundai is going all out to promote its cars. I thing the company needs a image change over. People cant identify any of its cars except for Santro. The Verna is a slow mover and needs to undergo a lot brand imaging before it can be pushed as one of the fuel efficient cars.

Ford has jumped into the burgeoning urban car segment with both feet at the Beijing Motor Show with the Start concept. The design study was developed to look at ways of building a smaller, more affordable car using fewer raw materials. The structure is a combination of aluminum and high strength steels to keep weight down without sacrificing safety, while the body panels are made from recyclable composites that already have the color molded in, eliminating the need to paint.
