It is good news that the excise duty has been reduced vastly on small cars. The government should have scrapped excise duty completely on electric car. Electric cars would have received a huge push in sales, if the prices dropped.

The concept of electric car has been popular in India since Maini Revai was launched. The car is also credited to be the highest selling electric car in the world. Though people are interested in pollution control by opting it, most car buyers have shunned it and going for petrol and diesel cars since it is priced heavily. The another electric and environmentally-friendly car Bavina is set to launch this year and many other companies are in different stages of developing electric cars, a little reduction of price or abolition of excise duty on electric cars would surely encourage buyers to drive home electric cars.

Yes that is a good suggestion. It would have given a huge boost to eco-friendly electric cars in future. This is when Indian entrepreneur has proved that electric cars could sell in good numbers.
The Finance Minister could have extended the incentives given to hybrid cars also to the electric cars.

Hey i thought that the electric cars to were in the segment of small cars. But when there is cut on the excise duty on all the cars then why was electric car kept away?It would have definitely increased the sales.

I suppose that the electric car lobby was not as strong as the hybrid lobby. That why the government failed to notice that a small electric company like Reva Maini, which has the record for selling the highest number of electric cars in the world does not qualify for the cuts in excise duties.

Even i completely agree that the excise duty should have been reduced for the electric cars too.at present it the REVA ruling the indian roads in the electric segment but there are other companies too who are planing to bring out more electric cars.
