Earlier most of the sales narrowed to the business class, but now with the growing economy, the appetite for luxury has widened the type of buyers in this section. Also, earlier one car was sufficient for the entire family of four or five people, but now almost every member in the family has a car to drive – I have three (thanks to my son and daughter) for a family of four.
At present Mercedes and BMW rule Indian roads and dreams, but there are other foreign car makers who have started coming into the lime-light with cars that are just as luxurious and cost only half as much (I am of course talking about the Volvo and Volkswagen). In a very short time I guess I will witness a majority of youngsters driving around various brands of luxury cars, each trying to be Kooler than the other! I just hope that with the responsibility of driving comes the responsibility of safety as well.

I am glad to know that luxury cars are becoming such a huge success in India.
It is a hard earned success and everyone who can afford it knows that lot of hard work has gone into getting these luxury assets. Luxury goods will now only come here in hoards. Mercedes and BMW are only the first.
I have something to say about your opinion about luxury cars. You are right that today's young generation is fascinated by luxury cars. I am really excited to see BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Passat and other luxury cars which were too popular on American roads on Indian roads today. As economic status of each family is improving after IT boom, every one wish to drive their dream car. I feel we should also discourage youngsters from driving cars at high speed.
It is the disposable income and the changing lifestyle that has increased the demand for the luxury cars.
Its is the trend among the youngsters now.Merely a fashion statement!
